Larry Reminds Brooke of Her Reality: You’re Not Even My Daughter!

LARRY REMINDS BROOKE OF HER REALITY: YOU’RE NOT EVEN MY DAUGHTER!

A CINEMATIC SCREENPLAY

SCENE 1 — LARRY AND BETHANY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — EVENING

The living room is quiet, but tension fills the air. Bethany sits on the sofa, visibly upset. Brooke stands nearby with an angry expression, refusing to acknowledge the hurt she has caused.

Larry enters the room and immediately notices the uncomfortable atmosphere. He looks at Bethany, then turns toward Brooke.

LARRY
Brooke, what is going on here? Why does Bethany look so upset?

BROOKE
Dad, she is always trying to control me! Every time I do something, she has a problem with it. I am tired of her acting like she owns this house.

Bethany slowly raises her head, shocked by Brooke’s disrespectful tone.

BETHANY
Brooke, I have never tried to control your life. I only ask you to respect the people living under the same roof as you.

Brooke rolls her eyes and folds her arms.

BROOKE
Nobody asked you to give me advice, Bethany. Stay out of my business!

Larry’s expression immediately changes. He steps forward, unable to believe what he has just heard.

SCENE 2 — LARRY CONFRONTS BROOKE — CONTINUOUS

Larry stands between Brooke and Bethany. His voice is firm, and his disappointment is clear.

LARRY
Brooke, that is enough! I have listened to your complaints for a long time, but I will not stand here and watch you disrespect Bethany in my house.

Brooke looks at him in disbelief.

BROOKE
So now you are taking her side against me? I thought you were supposed to be my father!

LARRY
Being your father does not mean I will support everything you do. You need to understand the difference between being loved and being allowed to behave however you want.

Bethany remains silent, hoping the argument will end. But Brooke is not ready to back down.

BROOKE
She has been making my life difficult ever since I came here. You never understand what I go through!

Larry takes a deep breath before responding.

LARRY
And what about Bethany? Do you ever stop to think about how your words make her feel? She has feelings too, Brooke. You cannot expect everyone to understand you while you refuse to understand anyone else.

Brooke looks away, irritated by his words.

BROOKE
I do not care what she feels. She is not my mother, and she cannot tell me what to do!

Bethany’s eyes fill with tears. She turns her face away, trying to hide how deeply Brooke’s words have hurt her.

Larry notices Bethany’s reaction, and his disappointment turns into anger.

LARRY
Brooke, look at me when I am talking to you!

Brooke reluctantly turns toward him.

LARRY
You are being disrespectful to Bethany, and I am warning you for the last time. If you speak to her like that again, I will throw you out of this house!

Brooke’s confident expression disappears. She never expected Larry to threaten her with such a serious consequence.

SCENE 3 — THE PAINFUL TRUTH — LIVING ROOM — MOMENTS LATER

Brooke stares at Larry, struggling to accept his warning.

BROOKE
You would really throw me out? Your own daughter? After everything I have been through?

Larry’s face becomes serious. He knows his next words will hurt Brooke, but he believes she needs to understand the circumstances that brought her into his home.

LARRY
Brooke, do not use that argument to escape responsibility. And there is something you need to understand. You are not even my biological daughter. I do not know who your biological father is, and I will not pretend to know things I cannot confirm.

Brooke freezes. The room becomes completely silent.

BROOKE
How can you say that to me? I thought you considered me your daughter!

Larry looks at her with a mixture of frustration and sadness.

LARRY
I have given you a place in this house because of Sharra. I agreed to help you because of my history with her and because I did not want you to be left without support. But that does not give you permission to mistreat Bethany.

Brooke’s eyes begin to water.

BROOKE
So that is all I am to you? Someone you allowed to stay here because of my mother?

LARRY
I am telling you that your behavior has consequences. Whatever our family circumstances may be, you still have a responsibility to treat people with respect.

Bethany looks at Larry, surprised by how directly he has spoken. She does not want Brooke to feel unwanted, but she also knows the situation cannot continue.

BETHANY
Larry, please. I do not want Brooke to think that nobody cares about her. I only want her to understand that I deserve respect too.

Larry turns toward Bethany.

LARRY
I understand, Bethany. You have been patient with her, but patience does not mean you should accept every insult.

Brooke wipes away a tear and shakes her head.

BROOKE
You both make me feel like I do not belong here.

LARRY
Then show us that you are willing to live here peacefully. Nobody is asking you to forget your problems. We are asking you to stop turning those problems into excuses to hurt other people.

SCENE 4 — BROOKE REFUSES TO BACK DOWN — LIVING ROOM — NIGHT

Brooke walks toward the window, trying to hide her embarrassment. She feels that Larry has chosen Bethany over her.

BROOKE
You always defend Bethany. Whenever there is an argument, I am the one who gets blamed.

Larry follows her with his eyes but remains where he is standing.

LARRY
That is not true. I will defend whoever is right, and I will correct whoever is wrong. Today, your behavior is the problem.

Brooke turns around sharply.

BROOKE
What do you expect me to do? Apologize to her and pretend everything is fine?

LARRY
I expect you to take responsibility for what you said. If you hurt someone, you should have the courage to admit it.

Bethany rises from the sofa.

BETHANY
Brooke, I am not trying to take your father away from you. I have never asked Larry to stop caring about you. All I want is a peaceful home where we can speak to one another without insults.

For a brief moment, Brooke looks uncertain. Bethany’s words make her reconsider the situation, but her pride prevents her from responding kindly.

BROOKE
I heard you. I just need some time.

LARRY
You can have time to think, but remember what I told you. If you disrespect Bethany again, you will have to leave this house. I will not allow this situation to continue.

Brooke lowers her eyes and walks toward the hallway without answering.

Bethany watches her leave, looking emotionally exhausted.

SCENE 5 — LARRY AND BETHANY’S PRIVATE CONVERSATION — LATER THAT NIGHT

After Brooke leaves the living room, Larry sits beside Bethany. The anger on his face fades, replaced by concern.

LARRY
I am sorry you had to experience that. You should never have to feel uncomfortable in your own home.

Bethany takes a slow breath.

BETHANY
I appreciate you standing up for me, Larry. But I am worried about Brooke. She is clearly carrying a lot of anger, and I do not know whether she understands how much damage she is causing.

LARRY
I am worried about her too. But helping someone does not mean allowing them to hurt everyone around them. She needs boundaries, and she needs to understand that respect works both ways.

Bethany looks toward the hallway.

BETHANY
I hope she realizes that we are not her enemies.

Larry gently nods.

LARRY
That is what I want too. I want peace in this house. I want Brooke to learn from this instead of allowing her anger to destroy her relationships.

Bethany rests her hands in her lap, still troubled by the evening’s confrontation.

SCENE 6 — BROOKE’S BEDROOM — SAME NIGHT

Brooke sits alone on the edge of her bed, replaying Larry’s words in her mind.

She feels humiliated by the confrontation, especially when Larry reminded her that he is not her biological father.

BROOKE
How could he say that to me? I thought he would always stand by me.

She looks down, remembering the moments when Larry helped her because of Sharra. Part of her understands his frustration, but another part feels rejected.

Her phone suddenly rings.

The caller’s name appears on the screen: SHARRA.

Brooke answers immediately.

BROOKE
Mom, I need to talk to you. Larry just told me that I am not even his daughter and that he will throw me out if I disrespect Bethany again.

Sharra’s voice becomes concerned.

SHARRA
Brooke, slow down. What happened between you and Bethany?

BROOKE
We argued, and Larry took her side. He said he only kept me in the house because of you. I do not know what I am supposed to do now.

Sharra pauses, realizing that the conflict has become more serious than she expected.

SHARRA
Brooke, you need to tell me the whole truth. Did you say something disrespectful to Bethany?

Brooke remains silent for several seconds.

BROOKE
I was angry, Mom. But I never thought Larry would threaten to send me away.

SHARRA
Being angry does not mean you can treat people however you want. You need to think carefully about what happened before you make this situation worse.

Brooke looks toward her bedroom door, wondering whether she should apologize or continue defending herself.

BROOKE
What if Larry really makes me leave?

Sharra’s voice softens.

SHARRA
Then you need to understand why things reached this point. Do not make another decision while you are angry. Think about what you said, Brooke, and decide whether this is really the person you want to be.

The call ends, leaving Brooke alone with her thoughts.

She looks at herself in the mirror, realizing that her relationship with Larry may never be the same if she refuses to change.

SCENE 7 — THE NEXT MORNING — LIVING ROOM — CLIFFHANGER

The following morning, Larry enters the living room and finds Bethany preparing breakfast. Brooke comes downstairs a few moments later.

For a brief moment, nobody speaks.

Larry looks at Brooke expectantly.

LARRY
Brooke, have you thought about what happened last night?

Brooke stops near the stairs. Her expression is difficult to read.

BROOKE
Yes, I have.

Bethany turns toward her, waiting to hear what she will say.

LARRY
Then I hope you understand that my warning was serious. I will help you when you need help, but I will not allow you to disrespect Bethany in this house.

Brooke looks at Bethany, then back at Larry.

BROOKE
I understand what you are saying. But before I make any promises, there is something about Sharra that you both need to know.

Larry’s expression changes immediately.

LARRY
What are you talking about, Brooke?

Brooke takes a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly.

BROOKE
There is a reason I have been so upset lately. And it has something to do with what Mom told me.

Bethany and Larry exchange a worried glance.

LARRY
Then tell us the truth, Brooke. What did Sharra tell you?

Brooke opens her mouth to speak, but suddenly stops.

Her eyes move toward the front door as someone knocks loudly.

Larry turns toward the entrance, wondering who could arrive so early.
