BETHANY FINALLY APOLOGIZES TO SHARRA — BUT A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT CHANGES EVERYTHING!
1. SCENE ONE — LARRY AND BETHANY’S BEDROOM
Afternoon. The bedroom is quiet. Larry sits on one side of the bed while Bethany sits nearby, lost in thought. She cannot stop remembering what happened between her and Sharra.
Bethany knows she made a serious mistake. After a long silence, she takes a deep breath and turns toward Larry.
BETHANY
Larry, I’ve been thinking about Sharra. I know I made a terrible mistake, and I don’t think I can move forward without apologizing to her.
LARRY
Are you serious? You actually want to apologize to Sharra?
BETHANY
Yes. I should never have gotten her mother arrested. I let my emotions get the best of me, and now I realize how wrong I was.
Bethany lowers her eyes, feeling ashamed.
BETHANY
I want to go to her house and apologize in person. But Larry, do you think she will forgive me? What if she refuses to even listen to me?
LARRY
Bethany, you won’t know unless you try. The fact that you’re willing to admit your mistake is a good first step. Just be honest with her, and hopefully, she’ll understand.
BETHANY
I really hope she does. I don’t want things to stay like this forever.
LARRY
Then what are we waiting for? Get yourself ready. We’re going to Sharra’s house right now.
BETHANY
You’re really coming with me?
LARRY
Of course. I want to see you make things right with her.
Bethany smiles faintly and heads toward the closet. For the first time in a long while, Larry feels hopeful that she is finally making the right decision.
2. SCENE TWO — GETTING READY TO MAKE AMENDS
A little later, Bethany finishes getting ready while Larry waits downstairs. She checks her appearance in the mirror, takes a deep breath, and prepares herself for whatever might happen.
BETHANY
(To herself) Please, Sharra. I hope you can forgive me. I know I don’t deserve it, but I want to make things right.
Bethany walks downstairs, where Larry is waiting near the front door.
LARRY
Are you ready?
BETHANY
As ready as I can be.
Larry opens the door, and they leave together. Neither of them knows that this simple visit will soon turn into a terrifying experience.
3. SCENE THREE — SHARRA’S HOUSE: AN UNEXPECTED VISIT
Afternoon. Sharra is inside her house when she hears a knock at the door. She opens it, and her expression immediately changes when she sees Bethany standing beside Larry.
SHARRA
Larry, what is she doing here?
LARRY
Sharra, please. Just hear me out. Bethany came here because she wants to apologize to you.
SHARRA
Apologize? After everything she did to me and my mother? Does she honestly think saying a few words will make everything okay?
BETHANY
Sharra, I know you’re angry with me, and you have every right to be. I made a terrible mistake, and I’m truly sorry.
SHARRA
I don’t want to hear it. I didn’t ask you to come here. Tell her to leave, Larry.
LARRY
Sharra, I’m asking you to do this for me. I know she hurt you, but she’s here because she realizes she was wrong. Please give her one chance to make things right.
Sharra remains silent for several seconds. She looks at Larry, then at Bethany, who stands nervously beside him. Finally, she lets out a frustrated sigh.
SHARRA
Fine. You can both come inside. But don’t expect me to forget everything that happened.
LARRY
Thank you, Sharra. That’s all we’re asking for.
They step inside, but the tension between the women remains.
4. SCENE FOUR — BETHANY’S HEARTFELT APOLOGY
Inside Sharra’s living room, Bethany stands in front of her. For a moment, neither woman speaks. Bethany finally gathers the courage to move closer.
BETHANY
Sharra, I know I can’t undo what happened to your mother. I know my apology won’t erase the pain I caused you. But I want you to know that I’m genuinely sorry.
BETHANY
I allowed my anger to control my decisions, and I hurt people who didn’t deserve it. You deserved better from me, and your mother certainly did too.
Bethany’s eyes begin to fill with tears.
BETHANY
I’m not asking you to forget what happened. I’m just asking you to give me a chance to show you that I can do better.
Sharra looks away, trying to hold back her emotions. Larry watches carefully, hoping she will accept the apology.
SHARRA
You really hurt me, Bethany. What happened to my mother wasn’t something I could just forget.
BETHANY
I understand.
SHARRA
But I can see that you’re trying to make things right. I’m not saying everything is suddenly okay, but I’m willing to give you a chance.
BETHANY
Thank you, Sharra. You have no idea how much that means to me.
Sharra slowly opens her arms. Bethany hesitates before stepping forward and hugging her. The two women embrace as some of the tension between them finally begins to disappear.
LARRY
I’m glad you two were able to talk. This is exactly what I was hoping for.
SHARRA
Well, I hope you really mean what you said, Bethany.
BETHANY
I do. I promise I’m going to try to do better.
Then Bethany remembers something important.
BETHANY
Sharra, why don’t we go and see your mother? I would really like to meet her and apologize to her personally, too.
SHARRA
You want to see my mother?
BETHANY
Yes. I owe her an apology just as much as I owe you one.
LARRY
That’s a good idea. Let’s go together.
SHARRA
Okay. Let’s go.
The three prepare to leave, unaware that their journey is about to take a frightening turn.
5. SCENE FIVE — THE TERRIFYING CAR ACCIDENT
Late afternoon. Larry drives while Bethany sits beside him and Sharra sits in the back seat. For the first few minutes, the atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful.
BETHANY
I’m glad you gave me a chance today. I know I have a lot to make up for.
SHARRA
Just keep your word. That’s all I ask.
BETHANY
I will.
LARRY
See? Sometimes all it takes is a little honesty and the willingness to admit when you’re wrong.
Suddenly, Larry presses the brake pedal. Nothing happens. His smile disappears as he tries again, harder this time. The car refuses to slow down.
LARRY
Wait a minute. Something’s wrong!
BETHANY
Larry, what’s happening?
LARRY
The brakes aren’t working!
SHARRA
What do you mean the brakes aren’t working? Larry, do something!
LARRY
I’m trying! Hold on!
The car continues moving dangerously fast. Larry struggles to steer away from the traffic ahead, but he cannot bring the vehicle to a stop.
BETHANY
Larry! Please, we need to stop!
LARRY
I can’t stop the car!
Suddenly, the vehicle swerves out of control and crashes violently. The sound of twisting metal fills the air. Then everything goes silent.
6. SCENE SIX — SHARRA FIGHTS TO GET HELP
Moments later, Sharra slowly regains consciousness. Her ears are ringing, and she struggles to understand what has happened. She looks around and sees Larry and Bethany badly injured inside the wrecked vehicle.
SHARRA
Larry? Bethany?
Neither answers immediately. Sharra begins to panic and reaches for her phone with trembling hands.
SHARRA
Please, wake up! Somebody, please help us!
She calls emergency services and gives the location as best she can.
SHARRA
Hello? We’ve been in a terrible car accident! Three people are involved, and two of them are badly injured. Please send an ambulance immediately!
After ending the call, Sharra rushes back to check on Larry and Bethany. Larry begins to regain consciousness, but he is badly hurt and disoriented.
LARRY
Bethany… Where’s Bethany?
SHARRA
She’s here, Larry. The ambulance is coming. Please, just stay with us.
Larry turns toward Bethany, his face filled with fear.
LARRY
Bethany! Please, wake up!
Bethany remains barely responsive. Larry becomes increasingly distressed.
LARRY
No! Bethany, please! You can’t leave me like this!
SHARRA
Larry, please. Help is coming. You need to stay calm.
LARRY
I can’t lose her, Sharra! Not like this!
His voice breaks as he looks helplessly toward Bethany. Just hours earlier, he had been smiling because Bethany was finally trying to repair her relationships. Now, he is terrified that he might lose her before they have a chance to build a better future.
7. SCENE SEVEN — THE AMBULANCE ARRIVES
Minutes later, the sound of an approaching ambulance finally breaks through the silence. Sharra waves frantically as emergency responders arrive and begin assessing the situation.
SHARRA
Please help them! They’re both badly injured!
The paramedics rush toward Larry and Bethany. Larry tries to reach for Bethany as the rescuers begin assisting them.
LARRY
Please, take care of her first. Just make sure she’s okay!
PARAMEDIC
Sir, we’re going to help both of you. Please try to remain still.
Sharra stands nearby, trembling as she watches the responders work. She cannot believe that a moment of reconciliation has turned into such a nightmare.
Bethany is carefully placed on a stretcher, followed by Larry. As the paramedics prepare to transport them, Larry looks desperately toward Sharra.
LARRY
Sharra, please come with us. I can’t do this alone.
SHARRA
I’m coming, Larry. I’m not leaving you.
The ambulance doors close, and the siren begins to sound as the vehicle heads toward the hospital. Sharra stays with them, praying that both Larry and Bethany will survive.
8. A JOURNEY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Inside the ambulance, the paramedics continue monitoring Larry and Bethany. Sharra sits nearby, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty.
She remembers how angry she was when Bethany first arrived at her house. She had every reason to be upset, yet she had finally agreed to give Bethany a chance.
Now, instead of visiting her mother together and beginning a new chapter, they are all facing a frightening and uncertain future.
Sharra looks toward Larry and Bethany, silently hoping they will recover. The apology that began as an attempt to heal old wounds has become a moment none of them will ever forget.
9. TO BE CONTINUED — WILL LARRY AND BETHANY SURVIVE?
The ambulance speeds toward the hospital as the siren echoes through the streets. Sharra can only wait and hope that help has arrived in time.
Will Larry and Bethany recover from their injuries? Will Bethany get the chance to apologize to Sharra’s mother? And what caused the car’s brakes to fail?
One afternoon changed everything. The answers will have to wait.
FADE OUT.
