The day started like any other day in Larry’s house, but nobody expected things to get so awkward so quickly. Larry gathered everyone in the living room and announced that he had a special challenge for the family.
“Today, everybody is going to say five things they love about another person in this house,” Larry announced. “And I want honest answers, not excuses!”
Everyone started laughing, but when Larry announced that Brooke had to name five things she loved about Bethany, the atmosphere immediately changed.
Brooke looked at Bethany and smiled nervously. “Oh, that’s easy! I can definitely do that!”
Bethany crossed her arms. “Okay, Brooke. Let’s hear it. I’m listening!”
Larry grabbed a chair and settled down. “All right, Brooke. Tell us five good things about Bethany.”
Brooke took a deep breath and stared at the ceiling as if the answers were hidden somewhere up there. Everyone waited, but the longer she stayed quiet, the funnier the situation became.
Finally, Brooke said, “Well… Bethany is really nice.”
Bethany smiled. “See? Was that so hard?”
Brooke quickly added, “She’s really nice when she’s sleeping!” 😂🤣
The entire room exploded with laughter. Larry shook his head, while Bethany’s smile disappeared instantly.
“EXCUSE ME?! Did you seriously just say that about me?” Bethany shouted.
Brooke raised her hands. “What? You told me to be honest!”
💔 Brooke’s Compliments Turn Into Insults
Bethany rolled her eyes. “I told you to say something NICE! There’s a difference!”
Larry tried to hide his smile. “Brooke, come on. Give her a real compliment. You can do better than that.”
Brooke pretended to think carefully. “Okay, okay. Bethany is very good at talking.”
Bethany smiled slightly. “Thank you!”
Brooke immediately added, “Especially when nobody asked her to!” 😭😂
The room erupted in laughter again, but Bethany was no longer amused.
“Larry, are you hearing this? She cannot say ONE nice thing about me without turning it into an insult!”
Larry looked at Brooke. “That’s enough joking around. I want you to take this seriously.”
Brooke’s smile faded. She realized that the situation was becoming more serious than she had expected.
“Fine,” Brooke said. “I’ll try again.”
But Bethany interrupted her. “No, forget it. If you have to struggle this hard to find something good about me, maybe you don’t like me at all!”
The room suddenly went silent.
Brooke looked surprised. “That’s not what I said!”
“Then what are you saying?” Bethany demanded. “Every time you get a chance to say something nice about me, you turn it into a joke!”
Brooke shook her head. “I’m trying, Bethany, but you never make anything easy for me either!”
Just like that, Larry’s simple family challenge turned into a full-blown argument.

Bethany brought up their previous disagreements, saying Brooke always seemed ready to criticize her. Brooke fired back, explaining that Bethany often acted as though she was always right.
Larry stood up and raised his hands. “Hold on! Everybody needs to calm down. This challenge was not supposed to turn into another argument!”
But neither woman seemed ready to back down.
Bethany looked directly at Brooke. “Tell me the truth. Do you honestly think I’m a bad person?”
Brooke hesitated. “No! I never said that.”
“Then why can’t you name five good things about me?”
For the first time, Brooke didn’t have a sarcastic answer. She looked down at her hands, trying to figure out how to explain what she was feeling.
Larry noticed the change in her expression. “Brooke, forget about the challenge for a second. Tell us what’s really bothering you.”
Brooke took a deep breath.
“Sometimes, I feel like no matter what I do, Bethany always finds something wrong with it. I feel like she’s constantly trying to prove that I’m wrong or make me look bad. After a while, it becomes hard to say anything without expecting another argument.”
Bethany’s expression changed. She clearly hadn’t expected Brooke to open up like that.
“Wait a minute,” Bethany replied. “You really think I do that?”
Brooke nodded. “Sometimes, yes. And maybe I make jokes because I don’t know how else to deal with it.”
Bethany became quiet. Then she finally shared her own feelings.
“Honestly, Brooke, I’ve felt the same way about you. Sometimes, I feel like you don’t respect me. When you make those little comments, even as a joke, it makes me feel like you don’t take me seriously. So I respond with an attitude because I feel like that’s the only way to defend myself.”
For a moment, neither woman said anything. They were finally listening to each other instead of preparing their next comeback.

Larry stepped forward and explained why he had created the challenge in the first place.
“The point was never to embarrass anyone. I wanted everyone to remember that the people we argue with can still have good qualities. Sometimes, we become so focused on what bothers us that we forget to appreciate anything else.”
He turned toward Brooke. “You don’t have to pretend Bethany is perfect. Just think about the things she genuinely does well.”
Brooke took another deep breath and looked directly at Bethany.
“Okay. Let me try one more time.”
This time, there were no jokes and no sarcastic comments.
“First, you care about your family, even when you don’t always show it the best way.”
“Second, you’re strong when things get difficult.”
“Third, when someone really needs help, you can be there for them.”
“Fourth, you speak up when you believe something is wrong.”
Brooke paused before sharing her final compliment.
“And fifth, even though we argue a lot, I know you have a good heart. I just wish we could understand each other without turning everything into a competition.”
Bethany’s expression softened. She had expected another joke, but instead, she heard something genuine.
“Thank you,” Bethany said quietly. “I didn’t think you saw those things in me.”
Brooke nodded. “I do. I just don’t always know how to say them.”
Bethany admitted that she could also do a better job of listening instead of assuming Brooke was trying to upset her.
Larry smiled proudly. “Now THAT is what this challenge was supposed to be about!”
Everyone relaxed, and the tension finally began to disappear. It seemed that the two women had reached an understanding.

Just when everyone thought the drama was finally over, Brooke suddenly turned toward Larry with a mischievous smile.
“Okay, Larry, now I have a question.” 😏
Larry immediately looked suspicious. “What question, Brooke?”
Brooke pointed toward Bethany. “Since I had to name five good things about her, can the next challenge be Bethany naming five good things about ME?”
The entire room burst out laughing! 😂🤣
Bethany stared at Brooke in disbelief. “Oh, NOW you want another challenge?”
Brooke nodded proudly. “Absolutely! Let’s see how easy it is when you’re the one in the hot seat!”
Bethany shook her head and gave Brooke a playful glare.
“Oh, just you wait, Brooke. When it’s my turn, I’m going to have plenty to say!”
Larry covered his face and laughed. “Here we go again! I knew this family couldn’t go one day without starting something!”
Everyone continued laughing as Brooke and Bethany exchanged playful looks. But beneath the jokes, something had changed. For the first time that day, they had both admitted how they felt and made an effort to understand each other.
