Larry Questions Purnell’s Wedding Plans
Larry stood in the middle of his living room, staring at the apartment keys in his hand. He had spent the entire afternoon helping Purnell find a place where he and Jade could start their married life. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized that Purnell was making a terrible mistake.
Purnell had been talking about marrying Jade for weeks, but Larry had never taken him seriously. Now, with the wedding plans moving forward and an apartment waiting for them, Larry knew the situation was no longer a joke.
LARRY: “You really think you’re ready to marry Jade? You haven’t even figured out what you’re going to do about your girlfriend.”
Purnell sat on the couch, looking frustrated.
PURNELL: “Larry, I already told you. I’m handling that situation.”
LARRY: “Handling it? You’re about to marry another woman while your girlfriend thinks you’re still together!”
Purnell stood up and walked toward the kitchen.
PURNELL: “That’s between me and her. I don’t need you getting involved.”
Larry shook his head.
LARRY: “You brought me into this when you asked me to help you get an apartment. You want me to help you start a new life with Jade, but you haven’t even been honest with the woman you’re leaving behind.”
Purnell turned around.
PURNELL: “I’m not asking you to understand. I’m asking you to help me.”
Larry looked down at the keys.
LARRY: “I’m trying to help you, but you’re making it difficult.”
Purnell walked over and took the keys from Larry’s hand.
PURNELL: “Thank you. That’s all I needed.”
He headed toward the door, but Larry stopped him.
LARRY: “Purnell, you need to tell her before she finds out from somebody else.”
Purnell looked at him with irritation.
PURNELL: “I’ll tell her when I’m ready.”
He walked out, leaving Larry standing in the living room.
Larry Reveals the Secret
Larry watched him leave, then slowly pulled out his phone.
He knew Purnell’s girlfriend deserved to know the truth. He also knew that once she found out, there would be no going back.
Larry called her.
She answered after the second ring.
GIRLFRIEND: “Hey, Larry. What’s going on?”
LARRY: “I need to talk to you about Purnell.”
Her voice immediately changed.
GIRLFRIEND: “What about him?”
Larry took a deep breath.
LARRY: “He’s planning to marry Jade. I’ve been helping him look for an apartment so they can move in together.”
There was silence on the other end.
GIRLFRIEND: “What did you just say?”
LARRY: “I didn’t want you to hear it from somebody else. He’s serious about marrying her.”
She let out a short, disbelieving laugh.
GIRLFRIEND: “No. He wouldn’t do that to me.”
LARRY: “I’m telling you what I know. He’s already making plans.”
Her voice became louder.
GIRLFRIEND: “So you’ve been helping him get an apartment for another woman while he’s still with me?”
LARRY: “I was trying to help him get his life together. But I couldn’t keep this from you.”
She ended the call without another word.
Larry stared at his phone.
He knew she was angry, but he hadn’t expected her to react so quickly.
Purnell Celebrates His New Beginning
Meanwhile, Purnell arrived at his apartment, where Jade was waiting for him.
JADE: “Did you get everything taken care of?”
Purnell smiled and held up the keys.
PURNELL: “We have an apartment. We can finally start planning everything.”
Jade hugged him.
JADE: “I can’t believe this is really happening.”
PURNELL: “It is. We’re going to make this work.”
Jade pulled away and looked into his eyes.
JADE: “What about your girlfriend?”
Purnell’s smile faded.
PURNELL: “I’ll handle it.”
JADE: “You keep saying that. I don’t want to start our marriage with problems.”
PURNELL: “You won’t have to worry about her. I’m taking care of everything.”
Just then, someone began pounding on the apartment door.
Purnell looked toward the entrance.
PURNELL: “Who is that?”
Jade stepped back.
JADE: “Maybe it’s Larry.”
The pounding continued.
His Girlfriend Confronts Him
Purnell opened the door.
His girlfriend stood outside, her face filled with anger.
GIRLFRIEND: “So it’s true.”
Purnell froze.
PURNELL: “What are you doing here?”
She pushed past him and entered the apartment.
GIRLFRIEND: “You really thought I wouldn’t find out?”
Jade stood near the couch, watching in disbelief.
JADE: “What’s going on?”
Purnell tried to calm the situation.
PURNELL: “Everybody needs to calm down.”
His girlfriend turned toward him.
GIRLFRIEND: “Don’t tell me to calm down! You were supposed to be with me!”
PURNELL: “I was going to talk to you.”
GIRLFRIEND: “When? After you married her?”
Purnell looked toward Jade, then back at his girlfriend.
PURNELL: “I didn’t want to hurt you.”
GIRLFRIEND: “You didn’t want to hurt me? You’ve been lying to me this whole time!”
She stepped toward him and struck his shoulder.
Purnell backed away.
PURNELL: “Stop! What are you doing?”
She pushed him again, and he stumbled against the couch.
Jade rushed forward.
JADE: “Hey! Don’t put your hands on him!”
His girlfriend turned toward Jade.
GIRLFRIEND: “Stay out of this! You knew he was with me!”
JADE: “He told me he was ending things with you!”
GIRLFRIEND: “And you believed him?”
Purnell stepped between them.
PURNELL: “That’s enough! Both of you!”
His girlfriend shoved his chest.
GIRLFRIEND: “You don’t get to tell me what’s enough!”
Purnell raised his hands, trying to keep her away from him.
PURNELL: “I understand you’re upset, but we need to talk about this.”
GIRLFRIEND: “Talk? You had plenty of time to talk!”
She moved toward him again, but Jade grabbed her arm.
JADE: “Stop! You’re not going to hurt him!”
His girlfriend pulled away.
GIRLFRIEND: “You think you’re going to marry him after what he did to me?”
Jade looked at Purnell.
JADE: “Tell her the truth.”
Purnell swallowed hard.
PURNELL: “I’m sorry. I should have told you sooner.”
His girlfriend stared at him.
GIRLFRIEND: “That’s all you have to say?”
Purnell lowered his head.
PURNELL: “I know I hurt you.”
GIRLFRIEND: “You embarrassed me. You made me look like a fool.”
She turned toward the door, then stopped.
GIRLFRIEND: “You know what? I’m not finished with you.”
She stormed out.
Larry and Purnell Blame Each Other
Purnell stood frozen, breathing heavily.
Jade slowly approached him.
JADE: “Are you okay?”
He nodded, but his expression showed how shaken he was.
PURNELL: “I never wanted it to happen like this.”
Jade looked toward the door.
JADE: “You should have told her the truth before we got this far.”
Purnell sat down and covered his face with his hands.
His phone suddenly rang.
It was Larry.
Purnell answered.
PURNELL: “Larry, what did you tell her?”
LARRY: “I told her the truth.”
PURNELL: “She just came over here and attacked me!”
Larry paused.
LARRY: “I didn’t know she was going to do that.”
PURNELL: “You should have stayed out of my business!”
Larry’s voice became firm.
LARRY: “You asked me to help you get an apartment. You didn’t tell me you were going to keep lying to her.”
Purnell looked at Jade, who was now standing silently beside the window.
PURNELL: “You just made everything worse.”
Larry sighed.
LARRY: “No, Purnell. You made this worse when you decided to keep two women believing two different stories.”
Purnell ended the call.
A Message Changes Everything
For a moment, the apartment was completely silent.
Then Jade’s phone began ringing.
She looked at the screen and her face changed.
PURNELL: “Who is it?”
Jade didn’t answer.
The phone rang again.
Purnell stood up.
PURNELL: “Jade, who is calling you?”
She slowly turned the screen toward him.
It was his girlfriend.
A message appeared.
Tell Purnell I’m coming back. We need to finish this.
Purnell stared at the screen.
Jade took a step away from him.
JADE: “What are you going to do now?”
Before Purnell could answer, someone knocked on the door again.
