Larry Finally Decides to Divorce Bethany
The Breaking Point
For months, Larry had been trying to keep his marriage together. He kept telling himself that every couple had problems and that things would eventually get better. But lately, every day at home had become another argument.
Bethany would make decisions without listening to Larry, ignore the things he asked her to do, and then blame him whenever something went wrong. Larry felt like he was constantly trying to fix problems that Bethany refused to acknowledge.
One evening, Larry came home from work and immediately noticed that the house was a mess.
Larry: “Bethany, can we please talk for a minute?”
Bethany: “Not right now, Larry. I’m tired.”
Larry: “You’re always tired when I need to talk to you.”
Bethany looked at him and sighed.
Bethany: “What do you want me to do? I have enough problems already.”
Larry: “That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Everything becomes my problem, but whenever I ask you to help, you don’t listen.”
Bethany: “I don’t have to listen to everything you say.”
Larry Makes His Decision
Larry stood quietly for a moment. He had heard those words many times before, but something felt different tonight.
Larry: “You know what hurts the most? I’ve tried. I really have.”
Bethany: “Tried what?”
Larry: “Tried to make this marriage work.”
Bethany rolled her eyes.
Bethany: “Here we go again.”
Larry: “No, Bethany. This time is different.”
She looked at him, confused.
Larry: “For months, I’ve asked you to respect me. I’ve asked you to communicate with me. I’ve asked you to stop making decisions that affect both of us without even talking to me.”
Bethany: “And I said I would.”
Larry: “You said that every time. But nothing changed.”
Bethany became defensive.
Bethany: “So now everything is my fault?”
Larry: “I’m not saying everything is your fault. I’m saying I can’t keep living like this.”
Bethany: “Then what are you going to do?”
Larry looked down for a few seconds before answering.
Larry: “I’ve made my decision.”
Bethany: “What decision?”
Larry: “I’m going to file for divorce.”
Bethany Is Shocked
Bethany froze. She stared at Larry as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Bethany: “What?”
Larry: “You heard me.”
Bethany: “Larry, you can’t be serious.”
Larry: “I’ve never been more serious.”
Bethany stood up and walked toward him.
Bethany: “After everything we’ve been through, you’re just going to leave?”
Larry: “I didn’t just decide this tonight. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.”
Bethany: “But why?”
Larry: “Because I’m exhausted. I’m tired of feeling like my words don’t matter in my own marriage. I’m tired of asking for basic respect and getting ignored.”
Bethany Begs for Another Chance
Bethany: “I can change.”
Larry: “I wanted to believe that before. I gave us chance after chance.”
Bethany’s voice became softer.
Bethany: “So you really don’t love me anymore?”
Larry paused before answering.
Larry: “I cared about you enough to keep trying. But caring about someone doesn’t mean you have to stay in a situation that makes you unhappy.”
Bethany sat down on the sofa, completely shocked.
Bethany: “What am I supposed to do now?”
Larry: “I’ve made my decision. I need to move forward.”
The Divorce Papers
Larry walked toward the table and picked up the documents he had brought home.
Larry: “These are the divorce papers. I’m not doing this to hurt you. I’m doing it because I finally realized that we can’t continue like this.”
Bethany stared at the papers, her expression changing from anger to disbelief.
Bethany: “You actually brought them here?”
Larry: “Yes.”
Bethany: “You planned all of this behind my back?”
Larry: “I thought about it carefully. I wanted to be sure before making such a serious decision.”
Bethany: “Larry, please. Give me one more chance.”
Larry: “Bethany, I gave you more chances than I can count.”
Bethany: “I’ll listen now.”
Larry: “I wish you had listened before we reached this point.”
Larry Walks Away
The room became silent. Bethany looked at the papers again, realizing that Larry wasn’t arguing anymore. He wasn’t yelling. He had simply made up his mind.
Bethany: “So that’s it?”
Larry: “For our marriage, yes.”
Bethany: “You’re really walking away?”
Larry: “I’m choosing peace.”
Larry placed the papers on the table and walked toward the doorway.
Before leaving, he stopped and looked back at Bethany.
Larry: “This isn’t about winning or losing. We both made mistakes. But I can’t keep pretending everything is okay when it isn’t.”
Bethany looked at him with tears in her eyes.
Bethany: “Larry…”
Larry: “I’m sorry, Bethany. But my decision is final.”
Larry walked away, leaving Bethany alone with the divorce papers on the table.
But just as Larry reached the hallway, his phone suddenly rang. He looked at the screen and stopped. The caller was someone Bethany knew very well. Larry’s expression immediately changed.
Who was calling Larry—and why did that person know something Bethany had been hiding?
