When Anthony Refuses to Pay Shayla’s Rent, Iman Steps In With a Shocking Surprise
Shayla had asked Anthony for help many times, but every time she mentioned her rent, Anthony found another excuse. But this time, someone else decided to help her — and Anthony walked in at the worst possible moment.
Anthony Refuses to Help
Shayla: “Anthony, I need you to understand something. My rent is due, and I really need your help.”
Anthony: “Shayla, I told you I got my own things going on. I can’t keep paying for everything.”
Shayla: “I’m not asking you to pay for everything. I’m asking you to help me when I actually need you.”
Anthony: “You always say you need something.”
Shayla: “And you always say no.”
The room suddenly became quiet. Shayla took a deep breath and tried one more time.
Shayla: “Anthony, please. Just help me with the rent this month. I’ll figure everything else out.”
Anthony: “I don’t have it, Shayla.”
Shayla: “You don’t have it, or you don’t want to give it?”
Anthony: “What difference does it make?”
Shayla: “It makes a huge difference to me because you know I’ve been struggling.”
Anthony walked away from the conversation.
Anthony: “I’m not arguing about this.”
Iman Finds Out About Shayla’s Problem
Later that day, Iman came over. Shayla was sitting quietly when Iman immediately noticed that something was wrong.
Iman: “You okay?”
Shayla: “I’m fine.”
Iman: “No, you’re not. What happened?”
Shayla finally decided to tell him everything.
Shayla: “My rent is due, and I’ve been asking Anthony for help. He keeps telling me he can’t do anything.”
Iman: “How much do you need?”
Shayla: “I don’t just need rent money. I need groceries too, and there are a few other things I have to take care of.”
Iman: “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Shayla: “Because I didn’t want to bother anybody.”
Iman Makes a Shocking Decision
Iman: “Shayla, you’re not bothering me.”
Iman reached into his pocket and pulled out a large amount of cash.
Shayla: “Iman, what are you doing?”
Iman: “This is for your rent.”
Shayla’s eyes immediately widened. She could hardly believe what she was seeing.
Shayla: “Iman, that’s too much.”
Iman: “No, it isn’t.”
Iman handed her even more money.
Iman: “And this is for groceries and the other things you need.”
Shayla: “I don’t even know what to say.”
Iman: “Say you’re going to be okay.”
Shayla: “You really didn’t have to do this.”
Iman: “I know. I wanted to.”
Anthony Walks In
Shayla was holding the money in both hands when suddenly the front door opened.
Anthony walked inside.
He stopped immediately. His eyes went straight toward Shayla, and then he noticed the huge amount of cash in her hands.
Anthony: “What is this?”
Shayla froze.
Anthony: “Shayla, what are you doing with all that money?”
Shayla: “Anthony…”
Anthony: “Who gave you that?”
Shayla slowly looked toward Iman.
Shayla: “Iman did.”
Anthony Gets Angry
Anthony: “You were asking me for rent money, and now you’ve got all this?”
Shayla: “I asked you because I needed help!”
Anthony: “And instead you went somewhere else?”
Shayla: “No. I went somewhere else because you wouldn’t help me.”
Iman remained calm while Anthony continued staring at the money.
Iman: “She told me she needed help, so I helped her. That’s it.”
Anthony: “I wasn’t talking to you.”
Shayla: “Anthony, don’t make this about Iman. This is about you.”
Shayla Finally Speaks Her Mind
Anthony: “What exactly are you saying?”
Shayla: “I’m saying I asked you again and again to help me with my rent. You knew I needed groceries. You knew I had other responsibilities. But every time I asked, you turned me away.”
Anthony: “And now Iman is taking care of all of it?”
Shayla: “He didn’t have to. He chose to.”
Anthony became silent. Shayla looked directly at him.
Shayla: “If you won’t help me when I really need you, then what do you expect me to do?”
Anthony had no immediate answer.
Shayla: “If you won’t take care of my needs when I’m struggling, then this is what’s going to happen.”
Anthony: “So what happens now?”
Shayla: “Now I know exactly who is willing to be there when I need help.”
