A DINNER TO REMEMBER

SCENE 1 — DAVE’S HOUSE — EVENING

The evening is calm.

Soft golden light shines through the windows as DAVE sits on the couch, looking at his phone.

He hesitates for a moment.

A small smile appears on his face.

He finally decides to call EVEALY.

Dave presses her name and waits.

The phone rings.

EVEALY

Hello?

Dave smiles when he hears her voice.

DAVE

Hey, Evealy. What are you doing tonight?

EVEALY

Nothing much. Why?

Dave takes a breath.

He sounds slightly nervous but happy.

DAVE

I was wondering if you would like to go out with me.

Evealy pauses.

She wasn’t expecting the invitation.

EVEALY

Go out with you?

DAVE

Yeah.

Maybe we could have dinner together.

Just the two of us.

Evealy smiles.

Her expression becomes warmer.

EVEALY

I’d like that.

Dave’s smile grows.

DAVE

Really?

EVEALY

Yes, really.

What time?

DAVE

How about seven?

I’ll come pick you up.

EVEALY

Okay.

Seven sounds perfect.

DAVE

Great.

I’ll see you then.

EVEALY

See you, Dave.

The call ends.

Dave looks at his phone for a moment.

He can’t hide his happiness.

He stands up and begins getting ready.

SCENE 2 — EVEALY’S HOUSE — EVENING

Evealy puts her phone down.

She walks toward the mirror and looks at herself.

A soft smile crosses her face.

She seems genuinely excited about the evening.

She chooses an elegant outfit and gets ready.

A little later, there is a knock at the door.

Evealy opens it.

Dave is standing outside.

He smiles when he sees her.

DAVE

Wow.

You look beautiful.

EVEALY

Thank you.

You look pretty good yourself.

DAVE

Then I guess we’re ready.

Evealy grabs her purse.

EVEALY

Let’s go.

They walk outside together.

Dave opens the car door for Evealy.

She gets inside.

Dave walks around and takes the driver’s seat.

The car pulls away.

SCENE 3 — CAR — EVENING

The city lights begin to glow as they drive through the streets.

There is comfortable silence between them.

Dave glances at Evealy.

She is looking out the window with a smile.

DAVE

I’m glad you said yes.

EVEALY

Why wouldn’t I?

DAVE

I don’t know.

I just wasn’t sure if you’d want to spend the evening with me.

EVEALY

I’m happy you asked.

Dave smiles.

The atmosphere inside the car becomes warmer.

DAVE

Then tonight is going to be a good night.

EVEALY

I hope so.

The car continues down the road.

Neither of them seems in a hurry to reach the restaurant.

They enjoy talking and laughing along the way.

SCENE 4 — RESTAURANT — NIGHT

Dave’s car stops outside a beautiful restaurant.

Warm lights shine through the large windows.

Soft music can be heard from inside.

Dave gets out and opens Evealy’s door.

EVEALY

Thank you.

DAVE

After you.

They walk inside.

A waiter welcomes them and leads them to a quiet table.

Dave pulls out a chair for Evealy.

She sits down.

Dave takes the seat across from her.

They look at each other and smile.

The evening has officially begun.

SCENE 5 — RESTAURANT — LATER

The table is filled with delicious food.

Evealy takes a sip of her drink.

Dave watches her with a relaxed smile.

DAVE

So, tell me something.

When was the last time you actually went out and enjoyed yourself?

Evealy thinks for a moment.

EVEALY

Honestly?

It’s been a while.

I’ve been dealing with so many things lately.

Dave nods.

DAVE

Then I’m glad I called you tonight.

You deserve a break.

Evealy looks at him warmly.

EVEALY

I think I really needed this.

DAVE

Good.

Because I wanted tonight to be special.

Evealy laughs softly.

EVEALY

You really planned all this just for dinner?

DAVE

Maybe.

Or maybe I just wanted an excuse to spend time with you.

Evealy looks surprised for a second.

Then she smiles.

EVEALY

That’s actually sweet.

DAVE

Don’t tell anyone.

I have a reputation to protect.

Evealy laughs.

Their laughter fills the table.

For the first time in a long time, both of them seem completely relaxed.

SCENE 6 — RESTAURANT — LATER THAT NIGHT

Their plates are almost empty.

The conversation continues.

They talk about their lives, their dreams, and the things that make them happy.

Evealy listens carefully as Dave tells a funny story.

DAVE

And then I realized I’d been standing there for ten minutes holding the wrong phone.

Evealy bursts into laughter.

EVEALY

No way!

You actually did that?

DAVE

Unfortunately, yes.

And the worst part is that I didn’t even notice.

Evealy laughs again.

Dave watches her with a smile.

DAVE

I like seeing you smile.

Evealy becomes quiet for a moment.

She looks at him.

EVEALY

I like being around you too.

A warm silence settles between them.

Neither feels uncomfortable.

Instead, they simply enjoy the moment.

Dave reaches for his glass.

DAVE

To a good evening.

EVEALY

To a good evening.

They gently tap their glasses together.

SCENE 7 — OUTSIDE THE RESTAURANT — NIGHT

The dinner is over.

Dave and Evealy step outside.

The streets are peaceful.

The night air is cool.

They stand beside the car for a moment.

Neither seems ready to leave.

DAVE

Did you have a good time?

Evealy smiles.

EVEALY

I had a wonderful time.

Thank you for inviting me.

Dave nods happily.

DAVE

I’m glad.

I was hoping you’d say that.

Evealy looks at him.

EVEALY

You know, I wasn’t expecting tonight to be this nice.

DAVE

Neither was I.

They both laugh.

Dave opens the car door for her again.

DAVE

Ready to go home?

EVEALY

Yeah.

But I’m not going to forget tonight.

Dave smiles.

DAVE

Neither will I.

Evealy gets into the car.

Dave closes the door gently and walks around to the driver’s side.

The car pulls away from the restaurant.

Inside, they continue talking and laughing.

The city lights pass by the windows.

For Dave and Evealy, what started as a simple phone call has turned into a beautiful evening filled with smiles, laughter, and a feeling that something special may be beginning.

FADE OUT.
