INT. SHAYLA’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING
The house is quiet. Warm evening light fills the room as Anthony stands near the couch, lost in thought.
Shayla enters the room and immediately notices Anthony. A small smile appears on her face as she slowly walks toward him.
SHAYLA
You’ve been quiet all evening.
ANTHONY
I’ve just got a lot on my mind.
SHAYLA
Maybe I know what’s on your mind.
Anthony notices that Shayla is behaving differently. He tries to understand what she is really trying to say.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
Shayla moves closer. Anthony becomes visibly uncomfortable with the sudden change in the atmosphere.
ANTHONY
You’re making this complicated.
SHAYLA
Wasn’t it already complicated?
Anthony takes a step back and tries to regain his composure.
ANTHONY
I’m trying to think clearly.
SHAYLA
And what happens when you stop thinking?
Anthony’s emotions are becoming harder to hide.
He knows the situation is becoming complicated, but he cannot ignore what he feels.
INT. SHAYLA’S ROOM – EVENING
Anthony and Shayla continue their conversation in the room. The tension between them becomes intense, but their conversation remains emotional.
SHAYLA
You’re still trying to avoid the conversation.
ANTHONY
Because I don’t know where this is going.
SHAYLA
Maybe you already know.
ANTHONY
You keep saying things like that.
SHAYLA
Because you keep pretending you don’t understand.
Anthony looks away for a moment. He is clearly struggling with his emotions.
ANTHONY
I understand more than you think.
SHAYLA
Then tell me what you understand.
ANTHONY
I know there’s something between us.
ANTHONY
And that’s what scares me.
INT. SHAYLA’S ROOM – LATER
The conversation continues. Shayla wants clarity, while Anthony is still trying to control his emotions and make the right decision.
SHAYLA
Do you ever wonder what would happen if we stopped worrying about everyone else?
SHAYLA
You never told me that.
A long silence follows. Both realize that their conversation has revealed more than either expected.
INT. LIVING ROOM – SAME TIME
The front door suddenly opens.
Angelina walks into the house carrying shopping bags. She places them down and looks around.
There is no response.
Angelina looks toward the hallway.
ANGELINA
Shayla, I’m home!
Still nothing.
Angelina becomes suspicious and starts walking toward Shayla’s room.
INT. SHAYLA’S ROOM – MOMENTS LATER
Anthony and Shayla are still talking. Neither of them realizes that Angelina has returned home.
SHAYLA
I just want to know where we stand.
ANTHONY
I care about you.
Shayla is stunned by Anthony’s honesty.
Suddenly, footsteps approach the room.
The doorknob slowly turns.
ANGELINA WALKS IN!
Angelina opens the door and sees Shayla and Anthony together. She freezes in complete shock.
ANGELINA
What is going on here?!
ANTHONY
Angelina, I can explain.
Angelina looks from Anthony to Shayla, trying to understand what she has just walked into.
INT. SHAYLA’S ROOM – CONTINUOUS
SHAYLA
Mom, it’s not what you think.
ANGELINA
Then what exactly am I supposed to think?
Angelina folds her arms and gives them a serious look.
ANGELINA
Whatever is happening between you two, I don’t want secrets in my house.
SHAYLA
There aren’t any secrets.
ANGELINA
Then honesty shouldn’t be difficult.
Shayla looks down. Anthony realizes that Angelina’s arrival has changed everything.
INT. SHAYLA’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
Anthony prepares to leave.
Before walking out, he turns toward Shayla one last time.
ANTHONY
I’m sorry this happened this way.
SHAYLA
It’s not your fault.
ANTHONY
Don’t let tonight make you think I don’t care.
Anthony walks out.
The door closes.
Angelina turns toward Shayla, ready to demand the full truth.
Angelina’s concern grows.
She knows there is more to the story, and she is determined to find out exactly what is happening between Shayla and Anthony.
