The house is quiet.
Brooke sits on the couch, scrolling through her phone.
Her phone suddenly rings.
She looks at the screen.
It’s Cam.
BROOKE
Hey, Cam. What’s up?
CAM
I need to talk to you. Can you come meet me?
Brooke sits up.
She can hear something serious in his voice.
BROOKE
Okay… about what?
CAM
I’d rather talk about it in person.
BROOKE
Where do you want me to meet you?
CAM
Come to the restaurant. I’ll explain when you get here.
Brooke looks confused.
BROOKE
Okay. I’ll be there.
CAM
Alright. I’ll see you soon.
They hang up.
Brooke puts her phone down.
She has no idea that Cam has something much bigger planned.
She gets up and prepares to leave.
The restaurant is busy.
Soft music plays in the background as people talk and laugh.
Cam sits alone at a table.
He looks nervous.
On the table is a small gift box.
CAM
Come on, man. Just say what you feel.
A few moments later, Brooke walks through the entrance.
BROOKE
Hey.
CAM
Hey, Brooke.
BROOKE
So, what did you want to talk to me about?
CAM
I wanted to talk to you about Isaiah.
Brooke’s expression becomes serious.
BROOKE
What about Isaiah?
CAM
I know everything between you two has been complicated lately.
BROOKE
Yeah… it has.
CAM
And I know you’ve been dealing with a lot.
BROOKE
I just want everything to calm down.
CAM
That’s actually why I wanted to talk to you.
BROOKE
What are you trying to say?
CAM
Brooke… I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.
BROOKE
What do you mean?
CAM
I mean I care about you.
Brooke doesn’t know how to respond.
BROOKE
Cam…
CAM
Just hear me out.
Cam reaches toward the small box.
BROOKE
What is that?
CAM
Something I brought for you.
Cam slowly stands.
Brooke’s eyes widen.
BROOKE
Cam… what are you doing?
Cam gets down on one knee.
CAM
Brooke, I know this is unexpected.
But I want you to know how serious I am about you.
I care about you more than I can explain.
Will you marry me?
Brooke is completely stunned.
She looks at Cam.
Then she looks at the ring.
She doesn’t know what to say.
Across the restaurant, Isaiah sits at another table with Maria.
They are having a quiet conversation.
Isaiah suddenly glances across the restaurant.
His smile disappears.
He freezes.
His eyes lock onto Cam.
Cam is still down on one knee in front of Brooke.
ISAIAH
Wait… what?!
MARIA
Isaiah, what’s wrong?
Isaiah doesn’t answer.
He keeps staring.
MARIA
Isaiah?
ISAIAH
That’s Cam.
Maria turns around.
She sees Cam proposing to Brooke.
MARIA
Oh…
ISAIAH
That’s my friend.
MARIA
And Brooke is your girlfriend, right?
ISAIAH
Exactly.
ISAIAH
How is he proposing to Brooke?
MARIA
Calm down.
ISAIAH
No. That’s my friend.
He looks back at Cam.
ISAIAH
He knows about me and Brooke.
MARIA
Maybe he doesn’t know what you two are doing right now.
ISAIAH
He knows.
ISAIAH
He knows she’s my girlfriend.
Isaiah watches Brooke’s shocked reaction.
ISAIAH
Cam… seriously?
MARIA
Don’t do anything you’re going to regret.
ISAIAH
I’m not doing anything.
ISAIAH
I just can’t believe my own friend is doing this.
Brooke is still standing in front of Cam.
She looks overwhelmed.
BROOKE
Cam… I don’t even know what to say.
CAM
You don’t have to answer right away.
CAM
I just wanted you to know how I feel.
BROOKE
This is a lot.
CAM
I know.
Brooke looks at the ring again.
Meanwhile, Isaiah continues watching from across the restaurant.
MARIA
Isaiah, let’s just leave.
ISAIAH
No.
ISAIAH
I need to understand what is happening.
MARIA
You can talk to Brooke later.
Isaiah slowly stands.
He doesn’t approach them yet.
He simply watches.
Cam finally gets back on his feet.
Brooke looks at him.
The tension between everyone grows.
ISAIAH
My friend…
He shakes his head.
ISAIAH
And my girlfriend.
MARIA
Whatever happens next, don’t let your anger make the decision for you.
Isaiah takes a deep breath.
He looks toward Brooke.
Then toward Cam.
The restaurant suddenly feels full of tension.
Neither Cam nor Brooke realizes Isaiah is watching them.
And neither of them knows that their private moment has just turned into a much bigger confrontation waiting to happen.
FADE OUT.
