Broken Vows

Broken Vows

INT. LIVING ROOM – EVENING
The room is quiet, but the tension is heavy. Bethany stands near the table, visibly upset. She has just learned that Larry gave Sharra money for her house rent again.

The Confrontation Begins

Bethany takes a deep breath, trying to control her anger. The front door opens. Larry walks inside and immediately notices the look on her face.
Larry: What’s wrong?
Bethany turns toward him, her eyes filled with anger and disappointment.
Bethany: You gave Sharra the rent again, didn’t you?
Larry: Yes. I did.
Bethany: How can you keep doing this? You keep giving her money every single month! When I needed you, where were you?

An Old Wound Reopens

“When I had my surgery, you didn’t give me a single penny. Not even one dollar.”
A brief silence fills the room. Bethany wipes away a tear.
Bethany: But when it comes to Sharra, you always have money.
Larry: Bethany, this isn’t about Sharra.
Bethany: Then what is it about?

The Announcement

Larry takes a slow breath. He seems to have made up his mind.
LARRY: I want a divorce.
Bethany freezes. For a moment, she says nothing. The words seem to echo through the room.
Bethany: What did you just say?
Larry: I said I want a divorce.
Bethany: After everything I’ve done for you? I went through surgery because I wanted you to be happy. I did it because I wanted you to look at me and still feel the same way about me. And now you’re standing here telling me you want a divorce?

Suspicion Takes Hold

Bethany: I feel like you’re leaving me for her.
Larry: That’s not what I said.
Bethany: Then tell me the truth. Are you planning to divorce me and marry Sharra?
Larry doesn’t answer immediately. That silence makes Bethany even more upset.
Bethany: Why aren’t you answering me?
Larry: Because I don’t want to make this worse.

The Breaking Point

Bethany’s anger reaches its peak. She grabs Larry by the collar and slaps him across the face. The room goes completely silent.
Larry: Why did you do that? I came here to talk to you. I didn’t come here to fight.
Bethany: You don’t understand what you’re doing to me.
Larry: I understand that you’re hurting.

Letting Go

Bethany: Then why are you leaving?
Larry: Because I don’t think we can keep living like this.
Bethany: After everything we’ve been through, you’re just going to leave?
Larry: I’m not trying to erase everything that happened between us. I think we both need to move forward.
Bethany: And Sharra?
Larry: This decision is about our marriage.
Bethany: You still care about her, don’t you?
Larry remains silent. Bethany turns away, wiping her tears as she walks toward the window.
“I never wanted things to get this bad,” Larry says quietly, before walking out the door.

“But they did,” Bethany whispers, not turning around.

The door closes behind him. Bethany stands alone, watching the closed door, her anger slowly fading into sadness.

FADE OUT.
