Brooke’s Breakdown
INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING
The house is unusually quiet. The front door slowly opens. Brooke steps inside. Her eyes are red, her face wet with tears. She tries to hide her emotions, but the pain is impossible to miss. She quickly walks toward the hallway without saying a word. Larry, sitting in the living room, notices her and watches her disappear toward her bedroom. A worried expression crosses his face.
INT. BROOKE’S BEDROOM – CONTINUOUS
Brooke closes the door behind her. The moment she is alone, she breaks down. She walks to her bed, sits, and covers her face with both hands. Her shoulders shake as she cries. She tries to control herself, but the tears keep coming. She looks toward the floor, replaying everything that happened with Isaiah in her mind. She wipes her cheeks.
A few seconds later, there is a knock at the door. Brooke says nothing. The door opens slowly. Larry steps inside. He immediately sees Brooke crying. His expression changes from concern to seriousness.
LARRY
Brooke… what happened?
Brooke looks up at him. She tries to speak, but her voice trembles. Larry walks closer and sits beside her.
LARRY
Why are you crying like this?
Brooke takes a deep breath. She looks away, ashamed and heartbroken.
BROOKE
Isaiah didn’t even talk to me properly.
Larry listens carefully.
BROOKE
I went there because I wanted to talk to him. I wanted answers. I wanted to understand why everything between us had changed.
She pauses. A tear rolls down her cheek.
BROOKE
But he didn’t answer any of my questions.
Larry’s face becomes tense.
BROOKE
He barely even spoke to me.
Brooke wipes her tears with the back of her hand.
BROOKE
I kept asking him what I had done wrong… but he wouldn’t give me a proper answer.
Her voice becomes emotional.
BROOKE
I got so angry. I lost control and slapped Isaiah across the face.
Larry looks at her in disbelief. Brooke immediately becomes more emotional.
BROOKE
I know I shouldn’t have done it. I was angry, but now I feel terrible about it.
Larry remains silent. Brooke looks at him, hoping for some comfort. Instead, Larry’s expression hardens. He slowly stands up.
LARRY
Brooke… Do you realize what you’re doing?
Brooke looks confused.
BROOKE
What do you mean?
Larry takes a breath, trying to keep his temper under control.
LARRY
All of this is happening because you refused to listen. I warned you before. I told you to stay away from Isaiah. I told you to get out of this relationship drama and focus on your college studies. But did you listen to me? Not once.
Brooke starts crying again.
BROOKE
Dad, I just wanted things to work out.
LARRY
And look where that has brought you. You’re sitting here crying because of someone who wouldn’t even give you the answers you were looking for.
BROOKE
I thought Isaiah cared about me.
LARRY
That’s exactly what I was trying to make you understand. You became so focused on Isaiah that you forgot about yourself. You forgot about your future. You forgot about your college. And now you’re paying the price for it.
Brooke lowers her head. Her tears fall onto her hands.
BROOKE
I know I made mistakes.
LARRY
This isn’t just about one mistake, Brooke. I tried to stop this before it got this far. I told you exactly what you needed to do. But you chose not to listen.
BROOKE
I just wanted him to explain himself.
LARRY
And when he didn’t, you slapped him?
BROOKE
I lost my temper.
LARRY
And now you regret it.
BROOKE
Yes.
LARRY
You need to understand something. People make their own choices. And those choices have consequences. I can tell you what is right. I can warn you. I can try to protect you. But I can’t make your decisions for you. You made your choice. Now you have to face what came from that choice.
BROOKE
So you think everything is my fault?
LARRY
I think you ignored every warning I gave you. And that is why I’m angry.
The room becomes completely silent. For the first time, Larry’s anger seems to fade into disappointment. He watches his daughter cry.
LARRY
I don’t want to see you hurt like this. But you have to learn from what happened.
BROOKE
I’ll try.
LARRY
Don’t just try. Make a change.
Brooke takes a deep breath. She wipes her tears and looks toward the window. Outside, the evening sky is getting darker. Inside the room, Brooke is left facing the painful consequences of her choices. Larry remains beside her. Neither of them speaks. The silence says everything.
