Brooke’s College Orientation

A surprise that turns into a dangerous confrontation

EXT. COLLEGE CAMPUS — MORNING

A New Beginning

The university campus is alive with excitement. Students carry backpacks and folders while proud families take photos beneath welcome banners. Volunteers greet everyone with bright smiles — the air itself feels full of hope.

Brooke steps through the entrance and takes a deep breath. Today is the first step toward her future. Sharra stands beside her, smiling proudly. A few feet away, Trey waits patiently with a water bottle and Brooke’s orientation folder.

Brooke

I still can’t believe I’m finally here.

Sharra

You’ve worked hard for this day. Enjoy every second of it.

Trey

Today is all about you. Don’t let anything distract you.

Brooke smiles gratefully. The three begin walking toward the orientation building. None of them notice another car pulling into the parking lot.

EXT. CAMPUS PARKING LOT — SAME TIME

An Unexpected Arrival

A black SUV stops. Larry steps out with a wide grin. Beside him, Bethany holds a gift bag decorated in the university’s colors.

Bethany

She’s going to be so surprised.

Larry

I’ve been waiting for this moment. I wouldn’t miss Brooke’s first day for anything.

They walk toward the student center, laughing together. Larry scans the crowd for Brooke — then his smile disappears. His eyes lock onto someone standing beside Sharra. Trey. Larry freezes, his expression shifting from joy to pure anger.

Larry

What is he doing here?

Bethany

Larry… please don’t start anything. We’re here for Brooke.

Larry ignores her. His breathing grows heavier, his fists slowly clench. Without another word, he starts walking straight toward Trey. Fast.

EXT. STUDENT CENTER ENTRANCE — CONTINUOUS

The Confrontation Begins

Sharra notices Larry approaching. Her smile fades immediately.

Sharra

Larry…

Brooke

Dad! You came!

Before Brooke can hug him, Larry walks right past her. His eyes never leave Trey.

Trey

Larry… I’m not here for any trouble.

Larry stops inches away. The tension is unbearable. Students nearby begin slowing down. Everyone senses something is wrong.

Larry

Didn’t I make myself clear the last time?

Trey

I’m only here because Brooke invited everyone to celebrate her orientation. That’s all.

Larry

I don’t care why you’re here. Stay away from Sharra.

Sharra quickly steps between them.

Sharra

Larry, stop. This isn’t the place.

Larry

Move.

Sharra

No. You’re embarrassing Brooke.

More students begin watching. Parents whisper. Campus staff glance over nervously. Brooke looks completely shocked.

Brooke

Dad… please… don’t do this today.

Larry barely hears her. His anger has taken over.

Breaking Point

Trey

I’m not looking for a fight.

Larry suddenly grabs Trey by the front of his shirt. Gasps echo across the courtyard.

Bethany

Larry! Stop!

Larry pulls Trey closer. Their faces are only inches apart.

Larry

You think I forgot everything?

Trey

Let go of me.

Instead, Larry’s grip tightens. His hand moves from Trey’s shirt to his throat. The crowd freezes. Several students pull out their phones. Brooke covers her mouth in horror.

Brooke

Dad! Please!

Trey struggles to breathe. Larry stares into his eyes — his voice cold, low, terrifying.

Larry

Listen carefully. If I ever see you anywhere near Sharra again… I won’t spare you. Do you understand?

Trey slowly nods, unable to speak. Larry finally releases him. Trey stumbles backward, coughing heavily. Sharra rushes toward him.

Sharra

Are you okay?

Trey

Yeah… I’m fine.

The Weight of Silence

Bethany turns toward Larry, disappointment filling her face.

Bethany

What were you thinking? This is Brooke’s special day.

Larry’s anger slowly fades. He finally notices everyone staring at him — dozens of strangers, students, parents, faculty. The joyful atmosphere has completely disappeared.

Brooke stands silently. Tears begin forming in her eyes.

Brooke

Dad… why?

Larry looks at Brooke. His expression softens. Regret begins replacing his anger.

Larry

I was trying to protect—

Brooke

Protect who? Me? Or your pride?

Larry has no answer. The words hit harder than he expected.

EXT. STUDENT CENTER — MOMENTS LATER

What’s Left Standing

Brooke wipes away a tear.

Brooke

I wanted today to be happy. Just one peaceful day. That’s all.

Silence. No one knows what to say. Bethany gently walks toward Brooke and places a comforting hand on her shoulder.

Bethany

Sweetheart… we’re so proud of you. Nothing changes that.

Brooke

Thank you.

An orientation coordinator approaches carefully.

Coordinator

Orientation is about to begin. Students, please head inside. Families can wait in the welcome lounge.

Brooke nods quietly. Before walking away, she looks back at her father.

Brooke

I hope when I come out, everyone remembers why we’re here. For my future. Not another fight.

Larry lowers his head, ashamed. Brooke walks into the building. The doors slowly close behind her.

EXT. CAMPUS COURTYARD — CONTINUOUS

The Chapter He Almost Destroyed

Larry watches in silence. Bethany stands beside him.

Bethany

She’s growing up. She doesn’t need fights. She needs support.

Larry

I let my anger control me. Again.

Across the courtyard, Trey prepares to leave. Sharra walks beside him.

Sharra

I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve that.

Trey

This isn’t your fault. Take care of Brooke. She deserves a peaceful day.

Trey walks away without looking back. Larry watches him disappear into the distance. For the first time, he realizes how much damage one moment of anger can cause.

The celebration Brooke had dreamed about will forever be remembered for something completely different. As the campus bells ring across the university, Larry quietly looks toward the orientation building.

His daughter is beginning a new chapter of her life. Now he wonders whether he can repair the chapter he almost destroyed.
