Bethany’s Airport Confrontation

Bethany’s Explosive Return from Miami

1. Arrival at Atlanta Airport

Bethany stepped out of the airport’s automatic sliding doors, and the warm, humid air of Atlanta immediately welcomed her. Returning home after undergoing weight loss surgery in Miami, her face showed a mix of exhaustion along with a strange edge of impatience and irritability. Holding her small cabin bag in one hand, she lowered her sunglasses with the other to scan the arrivals area.

Larry was standing just ahead. He held a bottle of water with a faint smile on his face, which had likely appeared the moment he saw her. However, that smile didn’t last long, as Bethany’s eyes held a fiery glare rather than affection or the joy of reunion.

2. A Heated Airport Argument

“You’re late,” Bethany said without any preamble as soon as she reached him. Her tone was, as always, sharp and piercing.

Larry took a deep breath and tried to grab the bag from her hand. “I’m not late, Bethany. Your flight landed right on time, and I’ve been standing here waiting for you for the past half hour. How did the surgery go? How are you feeling?”

“Leave my bag!” Bethany snatched it back and walked ahead. “No matter how the surgery went, when did you ever care about me or my health? You can never do a single thing right!”

Larry walked briskly behind her toward the parking lot. He felt embarrassed amid the bustle of the airport because people were turning to look at them.

3. Bethany Blames Larry for Brooke

“What did I do now, Bethany? I couldn’t come to Miami because of my heavy workload, but I took the entire day off today just to pick you up.”

“Heavy workload?” Bethany stopped by the car and glared angrily at Larry. “I’m not talking about Miami! I just found out that Brooke went to college all by herself. Why didn’t you go with her? Why did you send her alone on a bus with all that luggage?”

Larry opened the trunk and looked at her in surprise as he placed her bag inside.

“But what, Larry?! She is only eighteen years old! She was going to college in another city. It was your responsibility to go with her and help her set up her dorm room! But you just sat comfortably at home. You are a useless father!”

4. Larry Finally Explains the Truth

After they got into the car, silence filled the cabin. Finally, Larry spoke calmly.

“Bethany, listen to me carefully. I didn’t send Brooke alone. I offered to leave my work and go with her to drop her off at college.”

“Then why did she go alone? Why didn’t you insist?” Bethany mocked.

“Because she’s grown up now, Bethany! She explicitly refused. She said her friends were going with her and that she wanted to experience her first day independently. I asked her three times, but she clearly said, ‘Dad, please let me go alone, I can handle it.’ Was I supposed to force her?”

Bethany silently turned toward the window. She had no answer, but her pride wouldn’t allow her to admit she had been wrong.

5. Silence Filled with Resentment

Larry let out a deep sigh, gripped the steering wheel tightly, and expressed his disappointment.

“You always do this, Bethany. You’ve come back after undergoing major surgery in Miami; I thought maybe you’d change a bit. But the moment you sat in the car, you started accusing me without listening. You never asked what really happened.”

“Oh, so now it’s my fault?” Bethany sneered.

“Yes, it is your fault that you pass judgment before listening,” Larry replied coldly as he drove toward home.

A heavy silence settled inside the car—a silence filled with anger, resentment, and deep exhaustion.
