BROOKE’S NEW CAR SPARKS A SHOCKING CONFRONTATION
EXT. CITY STREET – LATE AFTERNOON
Golden sunlight stretches across a busy neighborhood.
Cars move slowly along the street.
People walk along the sidewalks, carrying shopping bags and talking.
A shiny new car turns onto the street.
BROOKE is behind the wheel.
She smiles proudly as she looks at the beautiful car.
The vehicle looks brand new.
Brooke slows down near a familiar location.
She spots HOPE and FAITH standing outside a small café.
Brooke smiles.
She lowers the window.
BROOKE
Hey, Hope! Faith!
Hope and Faith turn around.
Their smiles disappear when they see Brooke sitting inside the new car.
They stare at the vehicle.
Brooke parks nearby.
She turns off the engine.
For a moment, she simply sits there, enjoying the attention.
Then she steps outside.
She closes the door carefully.
BROOKE
What do you guys think?
Hope looks at the car.
Then she looks at Brooke.
Faith crosses her arms.
FAITH
Is this your car?
Brooke smiles proudly.
BROOKE
Yeah.
I wanted you both to be the first people to see it.
Hope walks a few steps closer.
She looks over the shiny exterior.
Her expression becomes colder.
HOPE
Wow.
You actually got a new car.
BROOKE
I know.
Isn’t it beautiful?
Faith gives a forced smile.
FAITH
Yeah.
It’s… nice.
Brooke doesn’t notice the tension.
She walks around the car excitedly.
BROOKE
I picked everything myself.
The seats, the interior, everything.
I’ve been waiting all week to show somebody.
Hope glances at Faith.
Faith looks back at her.
Neither of them says anything.
Brooke notices.
Her smile slowly fades.
BROOKE
Why are you guys looking at each other like that?
HOPE
We’re not.
BROOKE
You are.
Faith steps closer.
FAITH
Brooke, you really wanted to show us this?
BROOKE
Of course.
We’re friends.
I thought you’d be happy for me.
Hope lets out a frustrated breath.
HOPE
Happy?
Brooke looks confused.
BROOKE
Yeah.
Why wouldn’t you be?
Hope looks at the car again.
Her jealousy becomes obvious.
HOPE
Because some people get everything they want.
Brooke shakes her head.
BROOKE
That’s not fair.
You don’t know how hard I’ve worked for anything.
Faith steps beside Hope.
FAITH
You always have something to show off.
BROOKE
I’m not showing off.
I was excited.
There’s a tense silence.
Brooke looks between them.
BROOKE
If you’re upset with me, just say it.
Hope’s expression hardens.
HOPE
Maybe we are upset.
Brooke takes a small step backward.
BROOKE
But why?
Faith points toward the car.
FAITH
Because you came here acting like this was some big celebration.
BROOKE
It is a big deal to me.
HOPE
Exactly.
Brooke looks hurt.
She reaches for the driver’s door.
BROOKE
I’m not going to argue with you guys.
She opens the door.
Before she can get inside, Hope steps forward.
HOPE
Wait.
Brooke turns around.
BROOKE
What?
Hope looks at the car again.
Her anger is growing.
HOPE
You really think you’re better than us now?
Brooke’s eyes widen.
BROOKE
I never said that!
FAITH
You didn’t have to.
Brooke closes the door.
She faces them.
BROOKE
I came here because I wanted to share something good with you.
I didn’t come here to fight.
Faith looks away.
FAITH
Then maybe you shouldn’t have come.
Brooke becomes emotional.
BROOKE
Fine.
I’ll leave.
She walks toward the driver’s side.
Suddenly, Hope moves toward the car.
BROOKE
Hope, what are you doing?
Hope doesn’t answer.
Faith follows her.
Brooke quickly steps between them and the car.
BROOKE
Stop.
This is my car.
Hope looks directly at Brooke.
HOPE
You should have thought about that before coming here.
Brooke backs away.
BROOKE
What is wrong with you?
Faith reaches toward the car.
Brooke immediately steps forward.
BROOKE
Don’t touch it!
Hope’s anger boils over.
She strikes the side of the car.
Brooke gasps.
BROOKE
Hope!
Faith joins her.
Together, Hope and Faith damage the car.
Brooke stands frozen for a moment.
Her excitement disappears.
She watches helplessly as her brand-new car is being ruined.
BROOKE
Please stop!
Hope ignores her.
BROOKE
Why are you doing this?!
Faith finally stops.
She looks at Brooke.
FAITH
Maybe now you’ll understand how it feels.
Brooke looks at the damage.
Her eyes fill with tears.
BROOKE
Understand what?
Hope steps closer.
HOPE
That not everyone is going to celebrate your success.
Brooke shakes her head.
BROOKE
I didn’t do anything to you.
HOPE
Maybe you didn’t.
But you still came here showing it off.
Brooke wipes her eyes.
BROOKE
I trusted you.
That sentence makes the atmosphere even heavier.
Faith looks away.
BROOKE
I wanted you to be happy for me.
I thought you were my friends.
Hope doesn’t respond.
Brooke looks at her damaged car.
She slowly walks toward it.
BROOKE
This was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life.
Faith looks uncomfortable.
FAITH
Brooke…
Brooke turns toward her.
BROOKE
Don’t.
Faith stops talking.
Brooke takes out her phone.
She looks at the screen.
BROOKE
I’m calling my dad.
Hope’s expression changes.
HOPE
You don’t need to do that.
BROOKE
Yes, I do.
You destroyed my car.
Hope looks away.
Faith steps closer.
FAITH
We didn’t mean for it to go this far.
Brooke stares at them.
BROOKE
But it did.
A car horn sounds in the distance.
People nearby begin looking toward them.
Brooke takes another look at her new car.
The excitement she had earlier is completely gone.
She unlocks the driver’s door.
Before getting inside, she turns around one last time.
BROOKE
I came here wanting to share something good with you.
You turned it into this.
Hope remains silent.
Faith lowers her eyes.
Brooke gets inside the car.
She starts the engine.
The car slowly pulls away.
Hope watches it disappear down the street.
Faith stands beside her.
For a moment, neither twin speaks.
FAITH
Hope…
Hope looks at her.
HOPE
What?
FAITH
I think we went too far.
Hope looks down the road.
Her anger slowly gives way to uncertainty.
HOPE
Maybe.
Faith sighs.
FAITH
What are we going to do now?
Hope doesn’t answer.
The sound of Brooke’s car fades into the distance.
CUT TO:
INT. BROOKE’S CAR – MOVING – LATE AFTERNOON
Brooke drives silently.
Tears gather in her eyes.
She looks at the damaged side of the car through the mirror.
Her phone begins ringing.
The screen shows DAD.
Brooke takes a deep breath.
She answers.
BROOKE
Dad…
She struggles to speak.
BROOKE
Something happened to my car.
Her voice breaks.
She continues driving as the city lights begin to appear.
