Libby had been having one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong at once. She felt embarrassed, angry, hurt, and completely overwhelmed. After the argument at Terry’s place, she had no idea where to go. She kept walking until she finally reached Kendrick’s neighborhood.

Kendrick was her lawyer, and although he had always tried to keep their relationship strictly professional, Libby had started seeing him as someone she could trust. In her mind, he was the only person who might actually listen to her without judging her.

When Libby finally reached Kendrick’s house, she did not knock on the door. Instead, she sat down on the side of the road outside his home and began crying.

She stayed there for several minutes, wiping tears from her face and trying to calm herself down.

Meanwhile, Kendrick had been inside his house with his dog. When he eventually stepped outside, he immediately noticed someone sitting near the road.
