DAVE THROWS WAYNE OUT — “DON’T COME BACK TO MY HOUSE!”
SCENE 1 — DAVE AND AMBER’S HOUSE
The afternoon is quiet.
Amber is sitting on the couch, looking at her phone. Dave is standing near the kitchen, finishing a few things around the house.
Suddenly, there is a knock at the door.
Amber looks up.
AMBER
Who could that be?
Dave walks toward the door and opens it.
Wayne is standing outside with a relaxed smile.
Dave’s expression immediately changes.
DAVE
Wayne?
Wayne walks inside without realizing how uncomfortable Dave is.
WAYNE
What’s going on, Amber? I came to talk to you.
Amber looks at Dave.
Dave remains silent for a moment.
AMBER
Wayne, what brings you here?
WAYNE
I just wanted to check on you. We were talking earlier, and I thought I should come by.
Dave slowly folds his arms.
He is clearly not happy.
DAVE
You came here without even asking me?
WAYNE
Man, I’m just here to talk.
DAVE
This is my house, Wayne.
A tense silence fills the room.
AMBER
Dave, it’s okay. He just came to talk.
DAVE
I understand that. But there are boundaries.
WAYNE
Nobody is trying to cross any boundaries.
Dave takes a deep breath.
He tries to control his anger.
SCENE 2 — THE CONVERSATION GETS TENSE
Wayne sits down and starts talking to Amber.
Dave watches them from across the room.
WAYNE
Amber, I was just telling you about what happened the other day.
AMBER
Yeah, I remember.
Dave steps closer.
DAVE
Wayne, I already told you I don’t want you coming into my house and acting like everything is normal.
WAYNE
Why are you getting so angry?
DAVE
Because you’re not listening to me.
WAYNE
I’m not doing anything wrong.
Dave points toward the door.
DAVE
Then leave.
WAYNE
Leave?
DAVE
Yes. Leave my house.
AMBER
Dave, please calm down.
DAVE
Amber, I’m calm.
DAVE
I’m asking him respectfully to leave.
Wayne doesn’t move.
Instead, he turns back toward Amber.
WAYNE
Amber, I was trying to tell you—
Dave suddenly interrupts.
DAVE
Wayne!
The room becomes completely silent.
DAVE
I’m talking to you.
SCENE 3 — DAVE LOSES HIS PATIENCE
Dave walks closer to Wayne.
His voice becomes firm.
DAVE
I don’t know how many times I have to say this.
Wayne remains seated.
WAYNE
Man, there’s no reason to get this serious.
DAVE
You came into my house.
DAVE
You ignored what I said.
DAVE
And now you’re sitting here talking to Amber like I’m not even standing here.
Wayne slowly gets up.
WAYNE
I’m not disrespecting you.
DAVE
But that’s exactly how it feels.
Amber moves between them slightly.
AMBER
Please, both of you. Let’s not make this bigger than it is.
DAVE
I’m not trying to make anything bigger.
DAVE
I’m simply asking you to respect my home.
WAYNE
I came here because I wanted to talk to Amber.
Dave’s expression becomes even more serious.
DAVE
Then you should have talked to her somewhere else.
Wayne takes a step toward the door.
WAYNE
Amber, I’ll talk to you later.
DAVE
No.
DAVE
You’re not coming back here later.
SCENE 4 — WAYNE IS THROWN OUT
Dave walks toward the front door and opens it.
He points outside.
DAVE
Get out.
WAYNE
Dave, you’re really doing this?
DAVE
Yes.
WAYNE
Over a conversation?
DAVE
It’s not just the conversation.
DAVE
It’s the disrespect.
WAYNE
Amber, you see what’s happening?
AMBER
Wayne, just go for now.
WAYNE
Okay.
He walks toward the door.
Dave follows behind him.
Wayne steps outside.
DAVE
And listen carefully.
DAVE
Don’t come back to my house again.
WAYNE
You really mean that?
DAVE
I mean every word.
Dave closes the door.
The house becomes silent.
SCENE 5 — AMBER CONFRONTS DAVE
AMBER
Dave…
DAVE
What?
AMBER
You didn’t have to throw him out like that.
DAVE
Amber, what was I supposed to do?
AMBER
You could have just asked him to leave.
DAVE
I did ask him.
Amber becomes quiet.
DAVE
I asked him more than once.
DAVE
He kept talking like my words didn’t matter.
AMBER
I understand why you were upset.
DAVE
I don’t want anyone thinking they can walk into our home and ignore our boundaries.
AMBER
I understand.
There is a long silence.
SCENE 6 — WAYNE OUTSIDE
Wayne walks down the sidewalk.
He looks back at the house.
His expression has changed.
The smile is gone.
He takes out his phone but doesn’t call anyone.
He simply stares at the screen.
WAYNE
I can’t believe Dave just put me out.
WAYNE
I was only trying to talk.
He puts his phone back into his pocket.
After a moment, he continues walking.
SCENE 7 — BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE
Dave is still sitting on the couch.
Amber walks over and sits beside him.
AMBER
Are you okay?
DAVE
Yeah.
AMBER
You’re still angry.
DAVE
I’m trying not to be.
AMBER
Then let’s just forget about it.
DAVE
I just don’t want this turning into something bigger.
AMBER
It won’t.
DAVE
Promise me something.
AMBER
What?
DAVE
If Wayne comes back, don’t let him inside without talking to me first.
AMBER
Okay.
Dave finally relaxes.
SCENE 8 — A PHONE CALL
A few minutes later, Amber’s phone rings.
She looks at the screen.
It is Wayne.
Dave notices.
DAVE
Are you going to answer?
AMBER
I don’t know.
The phone keeps ringing.
Finally, Amber answers.
AMBER
Hello?
WAYNE
Amber, I just wanted to say something.
AMBER
What?
WAYNE
I didn’t mean to disrespect Dave.
WAYNE
But I also don’t think I deserved to be treated like that.
AMBER
Wayne, you need to understand Dave’s point of view too.
WAYNE
I understand.
AMBER
Then give him some space.
WAYNE
Okay.
Wayne ends the call.
Amber places her phone on the table.
