The Truth Between Them

A CINEMATIC DRAMA
FADE IN:
INT. SHARRA’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

The house is unusually quiet.

Sharra stands frozen in the doorway. Her eyes widen as she sees her mother lying helplessly on the floor. Her breathing becomes heavy. Fear immediately takes over.

She rushes toward her.

Sharra Mom… Mom, please wake up.

Sharra kneels beside her mother and gently touches her face. There is no response.

Her hands begin to tremble as she reaches for her phone.

Sharra Please… somebody help me. My mom is hurt. I don’t know what happened to her.

She quickly calls an ambulance.

Sharra Please hurry. She’s in really bad condition. I think something terrible happened.

Sharra puts the phone down and stays beside her mother, holding her hand.

Sharra I’m here, Mom. I’m not leaving you.

In the distance, the sound of an ambulance siren grows louder.

CUT TO:
EXT. SHARRA’S HOUSE – NIGHT

An ambulance stops outside.

Paramedics rush inside with a stretcher.

Sharra follows them anxiously as they carefully lift her mother.

Sharra Is she going to be okay?
Paramedic We’re going to do everything we can. Please stay calm.

Sharra watches helplessly as her mother is taken into the ambulance.

She wipes away her tears and climbs in after her.

The ambulance drives away into the night.

CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL – EMERGENCY ROOM – NIGHT

Bright hospital lights.

Doctors and nurses move quickly around Sharra’s mother.

Sharra waits outside the emergency room, sitting alone in a chair.

Her hands are clasped tightly together.

She looks exhausted.

For a moment, she closes her eyes.

The emotional weight of everything she’s been going through crashes down on her.

Her depression, her fear, and now her mother’s condition.

A nurse approaches.

Nurse Are you Sharra?

Sharra immediately stands.

Sharra Yes. How is my mom?

The nurse gives her a sympathetic look.

Nurse The doctors are still treating her. She’s in serious condition, but they’re doing everything they can.

Sharra nods slowly.

Sharra Can I see her?
Nurse Not yet. Please wait here.

The nurse walks away.

Sharra sits back down. She stares at the hospital floor, fighting back tears.

Sharra Why is this happening to me?

She covers her face with both hands.

CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL – WAITING AREA – LATER

Time passes.

Sharra sits alone, staring blankly ahead.

Her phone suddenly rings.

She looks at the screen. It is a message informing her that Bethany has heard about her mother and is coming to the hospital.

Sharra’s expression immediately changes.

Her sadness turns into suspicion.

She remembers everything she believes Bethany has done.

Her breathing becomes faster.

Sharra Bethany…

She looks toward the hospital entrance.

Sharra What are you doing here?
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL – MAIN ENTRANCE – NIGHT

The automatic doors open.

Bethany walks into the hospital, visibly worried.

She looks around and approaches the reception desk.

Bethany I’m here to see Sharra’s mother. I heard she was brought here.

The receptionist points toward the waiting area.

Bethany nods and walks away.

Across the room, Sharra sees her.

Sharra immediately stands. Her eyes fill with anger and fear.

Bethany notices her.

Bethany Sharra…

Sharra steps backward.

Sharra Don’t come near me.

Bethany stops.

Bethany I just came to see your mom. I heard she was hurt.
Sharra You expect me to believe that?
Bethany What are you talking about?
Sharra You know exactly what I’m talking about.
Bethany Sharra, I swear, I don’t know what you think happened.
Sharra My mom disappeared. She was found in terrible condition. And now you suddenly show up here?
Bethany I didn’t hurt your mother.

Sharra immediately pulls out her phone.

Sharra Stay right there.
Bethany Sharra, please listen to me.
Sharra I’m calling the police.

Bethany’s face drops.

Bethany Why would you do that?
Sharra Because I believe you had something to do with this.

Sharra dials emergency services.

Sharra Hello? I’m at the hospital. I need the police here immediately.
Bethany Sharra, you’re making a mistake.
Sharra You hid my mother.
Bethany No. I didn’t.
Sharra You hurt her.
Bethany I would never do that.
Sharra Then why was she found like that?

Bethany has no answer. She simply stares at Sharra.

CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL – CORRIDOR – LATER

Two police officers approach.

Sharra immediately points toward Bethany.

Sharra That’s her.

The officers walk over.

Officer Bethany, we’d like to ask you some questions.
Bethany I haven’t done anything.
Officer You’ll need to come with us while we investigate.

Bethany looks toward Sharra.

Bethany Please, Sharra. You have to believe me.

Sharra turns away.

Sharra I don’t know what to believe anymore.

The officers escort Bethany away.

Bethany I didn’t hurt your mother.

Sharra says nothing.

The hospital doors close behind Bethany.

CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL – MOTHER’S ROOM – LATE NIGHT

Sharra finally enters her mother’s room.

The room is quiet except for the soft sound of medical equipment.

Her mother lies unconscious.

Sharra slowly walks to her mother’s bedside.

She takes her mother’s hand.

Sharra Mom…

Her voice trembles.

Sharra I’m sorry.

A tear falls onto her mother’s hand.

Sharra I should have protected you.

Sharra rests her head beside her mother’s arm.

Sharra Please don’t leave me.

The camera slowly moves away from them.

Outside the room, the hospital corridor remains silent.

Somewhere else, Bethany is being questioned by the police.

Sharra believes she has finally found someone to blame.

But the truth is still hidden.

And somewhere beneath the pain, confusion, and accusations…

A much bigger secret is waiting to be revealed.

FADE OUT.
