THE ACCIDENT — A FAMILY EXPLODES

SCENE 1 — BETHANY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — DAY

The phone rings.

BETHANY looks at the screen. She is surprised to see SHARRA’S MOM calling.

She answers cautiously.

BETHANY
Hello?

SHARRA’S MOM
Bethany, I need to see you.

Bethany sits up, confused.

BETHANY
Why? Is everything okay? Why do you want to meet me?

There is a short silence.

SHARRA’S MOM
Yes. Everything is fine. Just come and see me.

Bethany’s expression changes.

BETHANY
Okay. I’ll come.

She ends the call.

Bethany stares at her phone, uneasy.

BETHANY
Why would she suddenly ask me to meet her?

She takes a deep breath.

BETHANY
Something about this doesn’t feel right.

SCENE 2 — BROOKE’S BEDROOM — MOMENTS LATER

Bethany walks into Brooke’s room.

Brooke looks up from her phone.

BROOKE
What’s wrong?

Bethany closes the door behind her.

BETHANY
Sharra’s mom just called me. She wants me to meet her.

Brooke immediately becomes concerned.

BROOKE
Why?

BETHANY
I don’t know. That’s what worries me.

Bethany grabs her purse.

BETHANY
You’re coming with me.

Brooke stands.

BROOKE
Okay. But what am I supposed to do?

Bethany looks directly at her.

BETHANY
Stay in the car. Don’t get out unless I tell you.

Brooke nods.

BETHANY
And if she tries anything or something goes wrong, call the police.

Brooke understands.

BROOKE
Okay. I’m ready.

SCENE 3 — OUTSIDE BETHANY’S HOUSE — DAY

Bethany and Brooke leave the house.

They get into the car and drive away.

Across town, Sharra’s mom quietly leaves her own house.

She looks around carefully.

She doesn’t want Sharra to know where she’s going.

She gets into her car and drives away.

SCENE 4 — MEETING LOCATION — DAY

Bethany and Brooke arrive first.

Brooke remains inside the car, watching through the window.

Bethany waits outside.

A few moments later, Sharra’s mom arrives.

She steps out of her car and approaches Bethany.

SHARRA’S MOM
You came.

BETHANY
Yes. But I still don’t understand why you asked me to come here.

Sharra’s mom stops in front of her.

SHARRA’S MOM
What’s your problem, Bethany?

Bethany’s expression hardens.

BETHANY
What are you talking about?

SHARRA’S MOM
Why won’t you let Larry and Sharra be together?

Bethany takes a step closer.

BETHANY
So that’s why you called me here?

Sharra’s mom nods.

SHARRA’S MOM
Yes. That’s exactly why.

Inside the car, Brooke watches nervously.

SCENE 5 — THE CONFRONTATION — CONTINUOUS

Bethany folds her arms.

BETHANY
I will never leave Larry.

Sharra’s mom looks furious.

BETHANY
You can do whatever you want, but I’m not giving up my husband.

Sharra’s mom steps closer.

SHARRA’S MOM
You really think you can stop everything?

BETHANY
I’m telling you right now — I’m never leaving Larry.

Sharra’s mom’s anger rises.

SHARRA’S MOM
Then maybe you need to understand something.

Bethany stares at her.

SHARRA’S MOM
I could kill you.

Bethany is stunned.

Inside the car, Brooke hears enough to realize the situation is becoming dangerous.

SCENE 6 — SHARRA AND DRE — ON THE ROAD — SAME TIME

Meanwhile, Sharra and Dre are driving together.

They are talking when suddenly—

The car’s brakes fail.

Dre presses the brake pedal again.

Nothing happens.

His eyes widen.

DRE
Sharra!

Sharra looks at him.

SHARRA
What?

DRE
The brakes aren’t working!

The car speeds toward the road ahead.

Sharra grabs the door.

SHARRA
Dre, slow down!

DRE
I’m trying!

The vehicle loses control.

A violent CRASH echoes through the area.

The car flips over.

Everything goes silent.

SCENE 7 — AFTER THE CRASH — MOMENTS LATER

Dre slowly opens his eyes.

He is shaken but conscious.

DRE
Sharra?

He turns toward her.

Sharra is badly injured and unconscious.

Dre struggles to get out of the overturned vehicle.

He pulls out his phone.

DRE
Please! We need an ambulance!

He rushes back toward Sharra.

DRE
Stay with me, Sharra. Please.

Sirens can be heard in the distance.

SCENE 8 — THE HOSPITAL — LATER

Sharra is rushed through the hospital on a stretcher.

She is unconscious.

Dre follows behind.

Doctors and nurses quickly surround her.

Larry receives the devastating news.

His face drops.

He immediately heads to the hospital.

SCENE 9 — HOSPITAL HALLWAY — NIGHT

Larry arrives.

He sees Sharra being treated through the hospital doors.

Then he sees Dre.

Larry’s anger immediately explodes.

He walks toward him.

LARRY
What are you doing here?

Dre turns around.

DRE
Sharra was with me when the accident happened.

Larry points toward Sharra.

LARRY
Look at what happened to her!

Dre becomes defensive.

DRE
You don’t know what happened.

LARRY
This happened because of you!

Dre steps closer.

DRE
And what does it have to do with you?

Larry stares at him.

LARRY
She’s my family.

Dre shakes his head.

DRE
You don’t get to control her life.

Larry’s anger intensifies.

DRE
I can stay with her if I want. I can be with her if I want. That’s none of your business.

Larry loses control.

He grabs Dre.

SCENES 10–13 — THE FIGHT, ARREST & HOSPITAL AFTERMATH

SCENE 10 — THE FIGHT — CONTINUOUS

Larry punches Dre.

Dre stumbles backward.

DRE
Larry!

Larry attacks him again.

LARRY
You have done enough!

Dre tries to defend himself.

The hospital hallway erupts into chaos.

Nurses rush toward them.

Behind the doors, Sharra remains unconscious on the stretcher.

The fight continues until hospital staff finally separate them.

Larry is breathing heavily.

Dre wipes blood from his face.

Neither man backs down.

SCENE 11 — THE OTHER CONFRONTATION — SAME NIGHT

Meanwhile, Bethany and Sharra’s mom are still arguing.

The confrontation becomes physical.

Brooke gets out of the car.

She sees what is happening.

BROOKE
Mom!

Bethany and Sharra’s mom separate.

Brooke immediately pulls out her phone.

BROOKE
I’m calling the police.

Sharra’s mom looks frightened.

SHARRA’S MOM
Don’t do that!

BROOKE
You threatened my mother.

Brooke makes the call.

BROOKE
Yes, we need police here immediately.

Bethany looks at Brooke.

BETHANY
Brooke, stay back.

Brooke refuses to move.

BROOKE
No. I’m not letting this happen again.

SCENE 12 — POLICE ARRIVE — NIGHT

Police cars pull up.

Officers approach the group.

OFFICER
What’s going on here?

Brooke points toward Sharra’s mom.

BROOKE
She threatened my mom.

Sharra’s mom tries to explain herself.

SHARRA’S MOM
That’s not what happened!

The officers move toward her.

Bethany watches silently.

Brooke stays beside her mother.

An officer places Sharra’s mom under arrest.

She is handcuffed and escorted toward the police vehicle.

Bethany watches her leave.

SCENE 13 — HOSPITAL — LATER

Larry stands outside Sharra’s room.

Through the glass, he sees her lying unconscious.

His anger fades into fear.

He slowly approaches the window.

LARRY
Sharra…

His voice cracks.

Dre stands farther down the hallway.

For once, neither man speaks.

The only sound is the steady beeping of the hospital machines.

Larry looks at Sharra.

Then he looks at Dre.

The tension between them remains.

But Sharra’s condition has changed everything.

Larry quietly whispers—

LARRY
Please wake up.

The camera slowly pulls away.

Sharra remains unconscious.

Dre stands alone.

Larry stands outside her room.

And the future of everyone involved is suddenly uncertain.

FADE OUT.
