LARRY TELLS BETHANY HE DOESN’T WANT TO LIVE WITH HER ANYMORE — BETHANY’S DECISION LEAVES HIM SPEECHLESS!
Bethany never imagined that the man she had loved for years would one day look into her eyes and tell her he no longer wanted to live with her. She had survived arguments, misunderstandings, and countless nights wondering why Larry was becoming so distant. But nothing could prepare her for the words he was about to say. What hurt her most was not that Larry wanted to leave. It was that he seemed perfectly willing to let her go without making a single effort to save their marriage.
The living room was quiet when Larry walked in and found Bethany sitting on the couch, holding their wedding photograph. She looked at the picture with a sad smile, remembering the promises they had made when they first got married. Larry noticed her expression and sighed.
LARRY: Bethany, I need to ask you something. If you’re so unhappy with me, why are you still married to me?
Bethany slowly raised her eyes.
BETHANY: What makes you think I’m unhappy with you?
LARRY: Because nothing I do seems to make you happy anymore. You question everything I say, complain about how I treat you, and expect me to change. If I’m such a terrible husband, why don’t you leave?
Bethany placed the photograph on the table and stood up.
BETHANY: Larry, I complain because I feel like I’m losing you. I don’t want to leave my husband. I want my husband to care about me again.
LARRY: Maybe you expect too much from me.
BETHANY: Is asking you to spend time with me expecting too much? Is asking you to speak to me with love expecting too much?
Larry shook his head impatiently.
LARRY: This is exactly what I’m talking about. Every conversation becomes an argument.
BETHANY: Because you never listen to what I’m trying to tell you!
Larry stared at her, growing increasingly frustrated.
LARRY: Then tell me something, Bethany. If you love me so much, why does living with me seem to make you miserable?
Bethany’s eyes filled with tears.
BETHANY: Because I love you, Larry. Watching the man I love slowly pull away from me hurts more than you could ever understand.
For a moment, Larry looked as though he wanted to say something softer. Instead, he turned away.
Bethany stepped closer, hoping he would finally open his heart.
BETHANY: When we got married, you promised we would face our problems together. You promised you would never make me feel alone in this marriage.
LARRY: People make promises when they’re happy. Things are different now.
BETHANY: So because things are difficult, you’re ready to give up on us?
LARRY: I’m tired, Bethany. I’m tired of arguing, explaining myself, and coming home feeling like I’m walking into another fight.
Bethany shook her head.
BETHANY: Do you think I’m not tired? I’ve spent so many nights wondering what happened to the man who used to make me feel loved. But even when I was hurting, I never thought about giving up on you.
Larry took a deep breath before delivering the words Bethany had been dreading.
LARRY: The truth is, I don’t want to live with you anymore.
Bethany froze.
For several seconds, she simply stared at him, hoping he would take back what he had said. But Larry’s expression remained serious.
BETHANY: You really mean that?
LARRY: Yes. I don’t think we should continue living like this.
BETHANY: Larry, are you saying you don’t want me in your life anymore?
LARRY: I’m saying I don’t want to keep living in a marriage that makes both of us unhappy.
Bethany wiped away a tear.
BETHANY: You keep saying we’re both unhappy, but you haven’t asked me what I want. I still want you. I still want our marriage. I still believe we can work through our problems if we’re both willing to try.
Larry looked toward the window.
LARRY: And what if I don’t want to try anymore?
Bethany’s face fell.
Larry continued before she could answer.
LARRY: If you want a divorce, just tell me. Whenever you ask for it, I’ll give it to you. I’m not going to force you to stay married to me.
Bethany looked at him in disbelief.
BETHANY: I never asked you for a divorce, Larry. You’re the one telling me you don’t want to live with me. Why are you making it sound as if I’m the one trying to end this marriage?
LARRY: Because I can see how unhappy you are.
BETHANY: Then listen to me when I tell you that I don’t want a divorce! I want my husband to stop treating our marriage like a burden.
Larry folded his arms.
LARRY: I can’t promise you something I no longer feel capable of giving you.
Those words broke the last piece of hope Bethany had been holding on to. She picked up their wedding photograph and looked at it one final time before placing it back on the table.
BETHANY: I understand now. I can’t force you to love me, and I can’t force you to stay. But don’t expect me to keep begging for a place in your heart.
She walked into the bedroom, leaving Larry alone.
Later that evening, Larry knocked on the bedroom door. Bethany was sitting on the bed, looking through old messages on her phone.
LARRY: Bethany, can I come in?
BETHANY: What do you need?
Larry entered and stood near the doorway.
LARRY: I don’t want us to keep arguing. Maybe we should give each other some space.
Bethany looked up at him.
BETHANY: You want space after telling me you don’t want to live with me anymore?
LARRY: I think it would be better for both of us.
Bethany took a deep breath and stood up. She opened the wardrobe, took out a small bag, and began placing a few belongings inside.
Larry watched her in surprise.
LARRY: What are you doing?
BETHANY: I’m going somewhere else for a while.
LARRY: Is that really necessary?
Bethany turned toward him.
BETHANY: You said you didn’t want to live with me. I’m giving you the space you asked for. Don’t worry, Larry. I’m not asking you for a divorce tonight. But I’m no longer going to beg you to stay in a marriage you don’t want.
For the first time, Larry seemed uncertain. He had expected Bethany to argue, cry, and ask him to reconsider. He had not expected her to accept his decision and walk away.
Bethany picked up her bag and left the house.
As she reached her car, her phone rang. It was Charlotte.
CHARLOTTE: Bethany, where are you?
BETHANY: I’m leaving Larry’s house. I need time to think about everything.
CHARLOTTE: Before you make any decisions about your marriage, there’s something you need to know.
Bethany frowned.
BETHANY: What are you talking about?
CHARLOTTE: Larry hasn’t been telling you everything. I didn’t want to interfere between you two, but I can’t keep this secret anymore.
Bethany tightened her grip on the phone.
BETHANY: What secret, Charlotte?
Before Charlotte could answer, Larry appeared in the front yard.
LARRY: Bethany, who are you talking to?
BETHANY: Charlotte. She says there’s something I need to know.
Larry’s expression changed immediately.
LARRY: Whatever she’s telling you, don’t let her interfere in our marriage.
Bethany studied his face.
BETHANY: Why are you worried about what she might tell me? You just told me you don’t want to live with me anymore. What difference does it make what Charlotte says?
Larry looked away.
LARRY: I have nothing to hide.
BETHANY: Then you shouldn’t have a problem with me hearing the truth.
Before Larry could respond, a car pulled into the driveway. Charlotte stepped out, carrying a large envelope.
She walked straight toward Bethany, barely acknowledging Larry.
CHARLOTTE: I came because you deserve to know the truth before you decide whether to divorce your husband.
Larry immediately stepped forward.
LARRY: Charlotte, this is between Bethany and me. You need to leave.
CHARLOTTE: It stopped being just your business when you started keeping secrets that affected her life.
Bethany looked between them, confused and increasingly worried.
BETHANY: Both of you, stop. What is going on?
Charlotte handed her the envelope.
CHARLOTTE: Open it. Everything you need to understand is inside.
Larry reached toward the envelope, but Bethany pulled it away.
LARRY: Bethany, please. Don’t open it.
She stared at him.
BETHANY: All evening, you’ve told me you don’t want to live with me. You’ve offered me a divorce, and now you’re afraid of what might be inside this envelope. Why?
Larry struggled to answer.
Bethany opened the envelope and removed a folded document. She began reading, but as her eyes moved down the page, her expression changed. She looked at the final section and noticed a name she never expected to see.
BETHANY: No. This can’t be true.
Larry closed his eyes.
BETHANY: Larry, tell me this isn’t what I think it is.
LARRY: Bethany, there’s a reason I didn’t tell you.
BETHANY: Then tell me now! What does this document mean, and why is Charlotte bringing it to me?
Charlotte stepped closer, her voice becoming serious.
CHARLOTTE: Bethany, the person connected to this document isn’t a stranger. It’s someone you’ve trusted for years.
Bethany slowly turned toward Larry, waiting for him to deny it. But he remained silent, staring at the document in her hands.
Then Bethany noticed something else on the last page: a date that proved the matter had begun long before Larry first told her he wanted to leave.
She raised her eyes toward her husband.
BETHANY: Larry, if you knew about this before our argument, then your decision to leave me wasn’t just about our marriage, was it?
Larry looked at Charlotte, then back at Bethany.
LARRY: There’s something else you need to understand.
Before he could continue, Charlotte’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen, and the color drained from her face.
CHARLOTTE: Bethany, we have a problem. The person who signed this document knows we’re here.
Bethany held the envelope tightly as Larry suddenly reached for his phone.
A new message appeared on his screen.
He read it, and his expression changed completely.
LARRY: Nobody is leaving this house until I find out who sent this.
Bethany looked from Larry to Charlotte, realizing that the truth behind their failing marriage was only beginning to emerge.
