Anthony, Shayla, D’Nisha, and Chadwick: The Fight for Kai

ANTHONY, SHAYLA, D’NISHA, AND CHADWICK: THE FIGHT FOR KAI

THE MYSTERY BEGINS
An innocent child. A bitter custody battle. A sealed envelope carrying a terrifying secret. When D’Nisha arrives to bring Kai home, she discovers that everyone is hiding something— and Anthony is desperate to keep the truth buried.

INT. ANTHONY’S HOUSE — LIVING ROOM — MORNING

Anthony stood near the window, gripping his phone tightly. His expression was filled with frustration, but beneath his anger was something deeper—a father’s fear of losing his child. He had tried speaking calmly to Shayla. He had tried reasoning with her. But every conversation ended the same way. This time, he was determined not to back down.
ANTHONY
You can’t keep doing this, Shayla. Kai is my son, too. I have every right to spend time with him.
Shayla’s voice echoed through the phone, sharp and unapologetic. SHAYLA
And I have every right to protect my child. You don’t get to show up whenever you feel like being a father and expect me to hand him over.
Anthony closed his eyes, struggling to control his temper. ANTHONY
That’s not fair, and you know it. I’ve never said I don’t want my son. I’m asking you to let me see him.
SHAYLA
Seeing him and taking him away from my house are two different things, Anthony. I’m not giving you Kai. End of discussion.
The call abruptly ended. Anthony lowered his phone and stared at the screen. For several seconds, he remained silent.
Then D’Nisha entered the living room, immediately noticing the tension on his face. D’NISHA
What happened? Was that Shayla again?
Anthony nodded. ANTHONY
She’s refusing to let me take Kai. No matter what I say, she acts like I’m some stranger trying to steal my own child.
D’Nisha approached him slowly. D’NISHA
Maybe you should speak to her again when she’s calmer.
Anthony let out a bitter laugh. ANTHONY
I’ve tried that. She doesn’t want a conversation. She wants control.
D’Nisha studied his expression. She knew how much Kai meant to Anthony, and watching him struggle with his own child’s custody was becoming increasingly difficult. D’NISHA
So, what are you going to do now?
Anthony looked directly at her. ANTHONY
I want you to go to Shayla’s house and bring Kai back.
D’Nisha’s expression changed. D’NISHA
Me? Anthony, are you sure that’s a good idea? Shayla already has a problem with me. Sending me there might make everything worse.
ANTHONY
I understand that, but I need someone to bring him here. If I go myself, she’ll probably start another argument before I even reach the door.
He took D’Nisha’s hands in his. ANTHONY
Please. You’re the only person I trust to handle this without turning it into another fight.
D’Nisha hesitated. She didn’t want to become caught between Anthony and his ex-wife. But she also couldn’t ignore how desperately he wanted to see his son.
Finally, she nodded. D’NISHA
All right. I’ll go. But I’m doing this for Kai, not because I want another confrontation with Shayla.
Anthony kissed her forehead. ANTHONY
Thank you. Just bring him home safely.
Neither of them knew that someone else was waiting at Shayla’s house—and that person had absolutely no intention of letting D’Nisha leave with Kai.

EXT. SHAYLA’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON

D’Nisha’s car pulled into the driveway. She switched off the engine and looked toward the front door. The house appeared unusually quiet. She picked up her phone and called Shayla. No answer. D’Nisha tried again. Still nothing. D’NISHA
Where is she? She knew I was coming.
She stepped out of the car, walked up the front path, and knocked firmly.
After a few moments, the door opened. But it wasn’t Shayla standing there. It was Chadwick. D’Nisha froze. Chadwick, Shayla’s recent ex-boyfriend, leaned against the doorway with a suspicious expression. His appearance immediately made her uncomfortable.
CHADWICK
Can I help you?
D’Nisha looked past him, trying to see inside the house. D’NISHA
I’m here for Kai. Is Shayla home?
Chadwick gave a short, humorless laugh. CHADWICK
No. She’s out.
D’NISHA
Okay. Where’s Kai?
Chadwick glanced over his shoulder. CHADWICK
He’s inside.
D’Nisha waited for him to move aside, but he remained firmly planted in the doorway. D’NISHA
Would you mind letting me get him? Anthony is expecting us.
At the mention of Anthony’s name, Chadwick’s expression hardened. CHADWICK
Anthony sent you?
D’NISHA
Yes. He wants to spend time with his son.
Chadwick straightened. CHADWICK
Well, you’re not taking him anywhere.
D’Nisha blinked in disbelief. D’NISHA
Excuse me?
CHADWICK
You heard me. Kai isn’t going with you.
For a moment, D’Nisha thought she had misunderstood him. D’NISHA
You don’t get to make that decision. You’re not his father.
Chadwick stepped outside and pulled the door nearly shut behind him. CHADWICK
And you’re not his mother. So don’t come here acting like you have the authority to take him away.
D’Nisha’s jaw tightened. She had expected resistance from Shayla, but she hadn’t expected Chadwick to stand in her way. D’NISHA
I’m not acting like anything. Anthony asked me to pick up his son, and that’s exactly what I’m here to do.
CHADWICK
Then you can go back and tell Anthony that Kai is staying here.
D’NISHA
Move, Chadwick.
CHADWICK
Make me.
The challenge hung between them. D’Nisha took a slow breath, refusing to let him provoke her.
D’NISHA
I’m not here to argue with you. I don’t know what’s happening between you and Shayla, and frankly, I don’t care. This is about Kai.
CHADWICK
You people keep walking into other people’s lives, thinking you can change everything because you want something.
D’Nisha stared at him. D’NISHA
You people? What exactly is that supposed to mean?
Chadwick ignored the question.
CHADWICK
You and Anthony think you’re going to start a new life together and pretend Shayla doesn’t matter anymore. Now you’re showing up at her house, trying to take her child.
D’NISHA
Anthony is Kai’s father. That doesn’t change because you dislike him.
CHADWICK
You don’t know the whole story.
D’NISHA
Then tell me something useful instead of standing here blocking the door.
Chadwick moved closer. CHADWICK
I’m warning you. You’re not leaving with that boy.
D’Nisha’s patience began to disappear. D’NISHA
And I’m telling you that you have no right to threaten me.
A small voice suddenly came from inside the house. KAI (O.S.)
Chadwick? Who’s at the door?
Both adults turned toward the sound. D’Nisha’s expression softened immediately. D’NISHA
Hey, Kai! It’s me, D’Nisha. Come here, sweetheart.
Kai appeared in the hallway, holding a small toy car. He looked from D’Nisha to Chadwick, confused by the tension. KAI
Where’s Mommy?
D’Nisha crouched slightly so she could speak to him at eye level. D’NISHA
Mommy isn’t home right now, sweetheart. Your dad wants to see you. Would you like to come with me?
Before Kai could answer, Chadwick stepped between them. CHADWICK
Kai, stay right there.
Kai stopped. D’Nisha slowly stood up. D’NISHA
Don’t involve him in this.
CHADWICK
I’m protecting him.
D’NISHA
From what? His own father?
CHADWICK
You don’t know what Anthony is capable of.
D’Nisha’s eyes narrowed. D’NISHA
What does that mean?
Chadwick hesitated for a fraction of a second, but quickly recovered. CHADWICK
It means I know things you don’t.
D’Nisha looked toward Kai, who was now clutching his toy car against his chest. She didn’t want him witnessing an argument between adults. D’NISHA
Kai, sweetheart, why don’t you go sit in the living room for a minute?
Kai glanced nervously at Chadwick. KAI
Am I in trouble?
The question struck D’Nisha harder than she expected. D’NISHA
No, baby. You’ve done nothing wrong.
She gave him a reassuring smile. D’NISHA
The grown-ups just need to talk.
