Cruise Ship Chaos: Purnell Catches Larry Getting Too Close to Jade!
Summary: When Larry keeps trying to get close to Jade during the cruise, Purnell catches them together and warns Larry to focus on Bethany. Their argument turns into a fight, and Bethany shocks everyone by slapping Purnell in front of the crowd.
The cruise ship glides across the sparkling ocean. Music plays across the deck as passengers enjoy their vacation.
Jade stands alone near the railing. Larry notices her and walks over, hoping to spend some time with her.
LARRY
Jade, you out here enjoying yourself all alone? You know, you don’t have to spend the whole cruise by yourself. You got somebody right here who can keep you company.
JADE
Larry, I’m just trying to enjoy the view. Everything doesn’t have to turn into a conversation.
Larry chuckles and moves closer.
LARRY
Come on now, don’t do me like that. I’m just trying to be friendly. Ain’t nothing wrong with two people having a little conversation.
JADE
You sure you’re just trying to be friendly? Because the way you keep finding me everywhere, somebody might get the wrong idea.
LARRY
Who gonna get the wrong idea? I’m a grown man. I can talk to whoever I want to talk to.
Jade turns toward the ocean. Neither of them notices Purnell approaching from behind. He stops when he sees Larry standing so close to Jade.
PURNELL
Larry!
LARRY
What’s going on, Purnell? Why you yelling my name like that?
PURNELL
Man, what are you doing over here with Jade?
LARRY
I’m talking! You see me standing here talking, don’t you?
PURNELL
I see more than talking. I’ve been watching you trying to get close to her all afternoon. Why you so determined to be around my woman?
Jade takes a step back as the tension rises.
PURNELL
Listen to me carefully. You need to stop trying to get attached to Jade and start focusing on Bethany. That’s your wife. Go spend your time with her.
LARRY
Here you go again, acting like you own the whole ship. I don’t need you telling me where I can stand or who I can talk to.
PURNELL
Then go stand somewhere else! There are hundreds of people on this ship. Why you always trying to be around Jade?
LARRY
Maybe because Jade can actually have a conversation without acting like she’s somebody’s property!
JADE
Can both of y’all calm down? I’m standing right here, and neither one of you needs to turn this into a whole situation.
PURNELL
Baby, I’m not trying to argue with you. I’m trying to figure out why this man can’t keep his distance.
LARRY
Oh, now you want to act like the perfect boyfriend? You been watching me all day like I’m doing something wrong. Maybe you need to worry about your own relationship instead of mine.
PURNELL
Don’t bring my relationship into this. I’m talking about you. Every time I turn around, you’re trying to find an excuse to get near Jade.
LARRY
And what if I am? You gonna do something about it?
Purnell steps closer, trying to control his temper.
PURNELL
I’m giving you one last chance to walk away. Go find Bethany, enjoy your vacation, and leave Jade alone.
LARRY
You don’t give me chances! You ain’t my father, and you sure ain’t my boss. Stop talking to me like I’m one of your little boys!
Several passengers begin watching the confrontation.
PURNELL
You want to keep disrespecting me in front of everybody? Fine. But don’t expect me to stand here and let you play with me.
LARRY
Man, you been looking for a problem since you got here!
PURNELL
No, Larry. You’ve been looking for attention, and now you’re mad because somebody finally called you out.
LARRY
Say what you want to say, but don’t stand here acting like you can tell me what to do!
PURNELL
You really don’t know when to stop, do you?
Larry makes another insulting remark. Purnell hears him and turns back.
PURNELL
What did you just say to me?
LARRY
You heard me the first time!
The confrontation suddenly turns physical. Purnell shoves Larry back, and Larry pushes forward. The two men begin fighting as passengers move away and someone calls for security.
JADE
Stop! Both of you, stop it right now!
Neither man listens. After another struggle, Purnell lands a punch across Larry’s face. Larry stumbles backward, stunned. The deck falls silent for a moment.
BETHANY
Purnell! What is wrong with you?!
LARRY
You just hit me in front of everybody? You really just did that?!
PURNELL
I told you to leave Jade alone! You kept running your mouth like you thought I wasn’t serious!
LARRY
You think hitting me makes you a man? You got a lot of nerve!
Larry moves toward Purnell again, but Jade steps between them.
JADE
Larry, back up! Purnell, that’s enough! Y’all are embarrassing yourselves!
PURNELL
Tell him to stop coming around you, then! I’m tired of watching him act like he has some special place in your life.
JADE
I never asked either of you to fight over me!
Bethany hurries over and grabs Purnell’s arm, trying to pull him away from Larry.
BETHANY
Purnell, that’s enough! You made your point. Now walk away!
PURNELL
Not until he understands that he needs to respect boundaries!
BETHANY
I said that’s enough!
PURNELL
Bethany, stay out of this. He knows exactly why this happened.
BETHANY
Stay out of it? You just punched my husband in front of an entire cruise ship! How am I supposed to stay out of it?
PURNELL
Your husband was the one provoking me! I warned him repeatedly, and he wouldn’t listen.
LARRY
Tell him, Bethany! This man thinks he can put his hands on anybody whenever he gets mad.
PURNELL
Don’t act innocent now! You were the one chasing after Jade, trying to get close to her every chance you got!
LARRY
I was having a conversation! You turned it into a fight because you can’t control your jealousy!
Purnell moves forward again, but Bethany blocks his path.
BETHANY
You need to stop talking!
PURNELL
And you need to understand what your husband was doing!
BETHANY
I don’t care what you think he was doing! You don’t get to punch him and then expect everybody to stand here applauding you!
PURNELL
Unbelievable! I’m the one who gets attacked for calling him out?
BETHANY
You know what? I’ve had enough of your attitude!
Before anyone can react, Bethany delivers a sharp slap across Purnell’s face. The crowd gasps. Purnell freezes, unable to believe what just happened.
PURNELL
You just slapped me?
BETHANY
Yes, I did! And if you don’t calm down, this situation is going to get even worse!
Larry stares at Bethany in surprise. Jade covers her mouth in shock. Purnell slowly turns back toward Bethany, his embarrassment quickly becoming anger.
PURNELL
So that’s how it’s going to be? You’re defending him after everything he just did?
BETHANY
I’m telling you that you went too far! There’s a difference!
LARRY
Baby, let’s go. We don’t need to stand here arguing with him anymore.
PURNELL
Don’t you dare walk away acting like you won something!
LARRY
I didn’t win anything. You just showed everybody exactly who you are!
Two cruise ship security officers arrive and separate the men. Purnell continues glaring at Larry while Bethany refuses to look at him.
JADE
This whole thing is ridiculous. I came on this cruise to enjoy myself, not to become the reason two grown men start fighting.
PURNELL
Jade, you know I wouldn’t have done any of this if he had stayed away from you.
JADE
Don’t put this on me. You chose to fight him, and Bethany chose to slap you. Those were their decisions.
Purnell falls silent. Across the deck, Bethany walks beside Larry. Both are angry and shaken by the public confrontation.
LARRY
I can’t believe he thought he could hit me and get away with it.
BETHANY
And I can’t believe you couldn’t keep your mouth shut long enough to avoid this mess!
LARRY
Wait a minute. You’re blaming me now?
BETHANY
I’m blaming everybody! You knew Purnell was already suspicious of you and Jade, but you kept pushing him. Then he lost control, and now the whole ship knows our business!
LARRY
So what was I supposed to do? Let him talk to me any kind of way?
BETHANY
You were supposed to walk away before things got physical!
Behind them, Purnell continues arguing with security, insisting Larry provoked him. Jade stands nearby, frustrated by the chaos.
The vacation that began with sunshine, music, and laughter has turned into a public disaster. Purnell feels humiliated, Larry is furious, and Jade wants nothing more than to escape the drama.
Will Purnell forgive Bethany for slapping him, or will he make sure everyone on the cruise pays for what happened?
