Sharra’s Desperate Plea to Keep the Secret

SHARRA: “Brooke, listen to me carefully. You cannot tell your father anything about Dre. Do you understand? Whatever happens, Larry must not find out what I know.”

Sharra’s voice trembled as she grabbed Brooke’s hand, desperately trying to stop her from walking away. Brooke stared at her in disbelief. She had never seen her mother so frightened, and the more Sharra begged her to remain silent, the more convinced Brooke became that something serious was being hidden.

BROOKE: “Mom, how long do you expect me to keep lying to Dad? You keep telling me to stay quiet, but this situation isn’t going away. Dad deserves to know the truth about Dre.”

Sharra quickly looked toward the hallway, making sure nobody else was nearby.

SHARRA: “You don’t understand what you’re getting yourself into. Your father has already been dealing with enough problems. If he finds out about Dre right now, everything could become much worse.”

BROOKE: “That’s not a good enough reason to hide something from him. You can’t keep making decisions for everybody and expecting us to pretend nothing happened.”

Sharra released Brooke’s hand and stepped back. Her expression changed from fear to frustration.

SHARRA: “I’m trying to protect this family! Sometimes keeping something quiet is better than creating another argument.”

BROOKE: “No, Mom. You’re protecting yourself from having to explain the truth. There’s a difference.”

Those words struck Sharra harder than she expected. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say anything, the front door suddenly opened.

Larry Returns Home and Overhears Everything

Larry had returned home earlier than expected.

He placed his keys on the table and walked toward the living room. At first, he thought Brooke and Sharra were simply having another disagreement. But then he heard Dre’s name.

He stopped immediately.

SHARRA: “Brooke, please. I’m asking you one last time. Don’t tell your father anything about Dre.”

Larry’s expression became serious. He slowly stepped closer, and both women suddenly noticed him standing in the doorway.

LARRY: “What did you just say?”

Sharra froze.

Brooke turned around, surprised that her father had heard everything. Larry looked from Brooke to Sharra, waiting for someone to explain what was happening.

LARRY: “I heard Dre’s name. I also heard you telling Brooke not to tell me something. So, what’s going on?”

SHARRA: “Larry, you’re home early. We were just having a conversation.”

LARRY: “Don’t change the subject, Sharra. I know what I heard.”

Larry walked farther into the room, his eyes fixed on his wife.

LARRY: “What are you hiding from me about Dre?”

Sharra tried to maintain her composure, but her nervous expression made Larry even more suspicious.

SHARRA: “Nothing is happening. You’re misunderstanding the conversation.”

LARRY: “Then explain it. Because from where I’m standing, it sounds like you and Brooke have been discussing something behind my back.”

Brooke Finally Decides to Speak the Truth

Brooke looked uncomfortable. She wanted to tell her father everything, but she also knew that Sharra was afraid of what might happen once the truth came out.

BROOKE: “Dad, I think you should sit down. There’s something you need to understand.”

Sharra immediately interrupted her.

SHARRA: “Brooke, don’t!”

Larry raised his hand, signaling Sharra to stop.

LARRY: “Let her speak. I want to hear what my daughter has to say.”

Brooke took a deep breath.

BROOKE: “Dad, Dre’s name keeps coming up, and Mom has been asking me not to discuss certain things with you. I don’t think it’s right that you’re being kept in the dark.”

Larry turned toward Sharra.

LARRY: “Is that true? Have you been telling Brooke to keep things from me?”

SHARRA: “I didn’t want to upset you. You have enough stress in your life already, and I thought it would be better to handle this situation without involving you.”

Larry shook his head.

LARRY: “Handle what situation? That’s exactly what I’m trying to understand!”

His voice grew louder, and Sharra finally looked away.

SHARRA: “Larry, please lower your voice. We can talk about this privately.”

LARRY: “Privately? You’ve already involved Brooke. Now you’re asking me to pretend this conversation never happened?”

Larry Demands an Explanation From His Wife

Brooke stepped between them.

BROOKE: “Dad, Mom isn’t the only person responsible for this. I should have told you earlier, too. But I didn’t know how you would react.”

Larry’s expression softened slightly when he looked at his daughter.

LARRY: “Brooke, you never have to be afraid to tell me the truth. Whatever it is, I would rather hear it from you than discover that everyone has been hiding it from me.”

Sharra sat down on the couch, visibly overwhelmed.

SHARRA: “You both are making this sound worse than it really is.”

LARRY: “Then tell me what it really is!”

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Brooke glanced at her mother, silently encouraging her to stop avoiding the conversation. Sharra finally looked up at Larry.

SHARRA: “Dre has been part of a situation that I didn’t want to bring into this house. I thought I could deal with it before it became a problem for everybody.”

LARRY: “What does Dre have to do with you, Sharra? Why are you so determined to keep me away from this?”

SHARRA: “Because I knew you would get angry!”

LARRY: “I’m angry because you’re standing here refusing to tell me what’s happening!”

Sharra’s eyes filled with tears.

SHARRA: “I wasn’t trying to betray you, Larry.”

LARRY: “Then stop making me feel like the last person in my own family to know what’s going on.”

Brooke quietly sat beside Sharra.

BROOKE: “Mom, Dad isn’t asking you to fight with him. He’s asking you to be honest. Whatever happened with Dre, we can’t keep pretending it’s nothing.”

Sharra Finally Admits Dre Contacted Her

Sharra looked at Brooke, then at Larry. She seemed ready to finally explain everything.

SHARRA: “Fine. I’ll tell you what happened. But you need to promise me that you’re going to let me finish before you make any decisions.”

Larry crossed his arms.

LARRY: “I’m listening.”

Sharra took a deep breath.

SHARRA: “Dre contacted me, and after that conversation, I realized there was something I needed to discuss with you. But I wasn’t sure how to approach you because I knew you wouldn’t take it well.”

Larry frowned.

LARRY: “What did Dre tell you?”

Sharra hesitated again.

LARRY: “Sharra, don’t stop now. You’ve already brought this into our home. Tell me exactly what happened.”

SHARRA: “He wanted me to understand something about the situation involving Brooke. And I didn’t want you to react before hearing the entire story.”

Larry immediately turned toward Brooke.

LARRY: “Brooke, what situation is she talking about?”

Brooke lowered her eyes.

BROOKE: “Dad, I was hoping Mom would explain it first.”

Larry looked increasingly frustrated.

LARRY: “Why does everybody keep looking at each other instead of answering my questions?”

Sharra stood up and approached him.

SHARRA: “Because I know how much this could hurt you. I wasn’t ready to deal with your reaction.”

LARRY: “You don’t get to decide what I can handle. I’m your husband, and I’m asking you for the truth.”

Sharra wiped away a tear.

SHARRA: “I know. And I’m sorry.”

For a moment, Larry’s anger seemed to disappear, replaced by disappointment. He looked at the woman he had shared so much of his life with and wondered how long she had been carrying this information without telling him.

Dre’s Unexpected Phone Call Changes Everything

Then Brooke’s phone suddenly rang.

All three turned toward the sound.

Brooke glanced at the screen, and her face immediately changed.

Larry noticed.

LARRY: “Who is calling you?”

Brooke didn’t answer.

LARRY: “Brooke, I’m talking to you.”

She slowly turned the phone toward her father.

The caller’s name was Dre.

Larry stared at the screen before looking directly at Sharra.

LARRY: “Interesting. We’ve been talking about Dre for the last ten minutes, and now he’s calling Brooke.”

Sharra stepped forward.

SHARRA: “Larry, don’t answer that call.”

But Larry had already reached for the phone.

LARRY: “Why not? Isn’t this the person everyone has been so desperate to keep away from me?”

Brooke looked terrified as Larry accepted the call and switched on the speaker.

LARRY: “Dre, this is Larry. Since your name has been coming up in my house all afternoon, I think it’s time we had a conversation.”

There was a brief silence on the other end.

Then Dre finally spoke.

DRE: “Larry, I was actually hoping to speak with Sharra first. There’s something she hasn’t told you yet.”

Larry slowly turned toward his wife.

Sharra’s face went pale.

LARRY: “What haven’t you told me, Sharra?”

Dre Reveals That Brooke Knows More Than Larry Thinks

Before Sharra could answer, Dre continued speaking through the phone.

DRE: “And Larry, whatever Sharra tells you, you need to hear Brooke’s side of the story too.”

Larry looked at Brooke, then back at Sharra.

LARRY: “What exactly is going on between all three of you?”

Nobody answered.

Brooke stood silently, unable to look her father in the eyes. Sharra appeared completely overwhelmed, realizing that the conversation she had desperately tried to keep private had now exposed an even bigger problem.

Larry could no longer ignore the situation. His wife had been hiding something, his daughter knew more than she had admitted, and Dre was somehow connected to both of them.

He waited for someone to explain, but the silence only made him more suspicious.
