SCENE 1 – THE HOUSE THAT NO LONGER FELT LIKE HOME
The sound of a suitcase rolling across the living room suddenly filled the house. Brooke was preparing to leave after days of feeling unwanted and disrespected.
BETHANY: Well, look at that. You’re finally packing your things. I was beginning to think you would never leave.
BROOKE: I never wanted things to end this way. I only wanted to feel welcomed and respected in this house.
BETHANY: Nobody forced you to stay here. You always had other options. Maybe it’s time you found another place.
BROOKE: I never asked you to give up your happiness for me. I only wanted you to treat me like a human being.
SCENE 2 – BETHANY MAKES HER FINAL DEMAND
Bethany crossed her arms and looked at Brooke with an angry expression. Brooke could hardly believe how cold she had become.
BETHANY: I don’t want to repeat myself. You need to leave this house. I’m tired of this entire situation.
BROOKE: You keep saying that like my feelings don’t matter at all. Do you even understand how much you’re hurting me?
BETHANY: I’m not responsible for your feelings. Stop making everything so emotional.
BROOKE: I’m not playing the victim. I’m genuinely hurt, and I can’t keep pretending everything is okay.
SCENE 3 – LARRY ARRIVES AND HEARS EVERYTHING
Brooke picked up her suitcase and turned toward the door. Suddenly, Larry appeared in the doorway and noticed what was happening.
LARRY: Hold on! Why is Brooke carrying her suitcase? What’s going on here?
BETHANY: It’s nothing serious. Brooke has decided that she wants to leave.
LARRY: She decided that, or did you tell her she had to? I want to hear the truth.
BROOKE: I’ve tried everything, Larry. But Bethany makes me feel like I don’t belong here.
SCENE 4 – LARRY FINALLY CONFRONTS BETHANY
Larry placed his bag on the chair and turned toward Bethany. His expression became serious as he realized how badly Brooke had been treated.
LARRY: I’ve noticed how you’ve been treating Brooke. You keep starting arguments and making her uncomfortable.
BETHANY: I’m tired of this arrangement! I’m allowed to have my own feelings too!
LARRY: Of course you are! But you don’t have the right to make someone miserable just because you’re frustrated.
BETHANY: I’m your wife! You should be supporting me instead of defending Brooke!
SCENE 5 – THE TRUTH ABOUT PHILADELPHIA
Larry suddenly remembered how happy Bethany had been when she thought Brooke was leaving for Philadelphia. He decided to confront her about it.
LARRY: You were smiling when you thought Brooke was leaving for Philadelphia. But when those plans changed, your attitude became worse.
BETHANY: I just wanted things to go back to normal! Is that too much to ask?
BROOKE: That’s exactly how I felt. It seemed like you were just waiting for an opportunity to get rid of me.
LARRY: Your actions have been speaking louder than your words, Bethany.
SCENE 6 – BROOKE REVEALS HER PAIN
Brooke’s eyes filled with tears. She finally decided to explain how much Bethany’s behavior had affected her.
BROOKE: Every day I wake up wondering whether today will be another day when you’ll find something wrong with me.
BETHANY: You’re making this sound much worse than it really is.
BROOKE: I tried to smile even when your words hurt me. I stayed quiet because I didn’t want to create problems for Larry.
LARRY: You should never have felt that you needed to hide your pain just to keep everyone happy.
SCENE 7 – BETHANY DEFENDS HERSELF
Bethany sat down on the couch, looking frustrated. She felt that nobody was listening to her side of the story.
BETHANY: What about my feelings? Why am I always supposed to adjust? I have problems too!
LARRY: I’ve never said your feelings don’t matter. But you need to communicate instead of hurting someone.
BROOKE: I’m not asking you to change your entire life for me. I’m asking you not to treat me like your enemy.
LARRY: You need to understand what your behavior is doing to this family.
SCENE 8 – LARRY MAKES HIS DECISION
Larry walked toward Brooke’s suitcase and gently held its handle. He wanted her to know that nobody should force her into making a decision.
LARRY: Brooke, you don’t have to leave in the middle of an argument. You deserve to make your own decision.
BROOKE: I don’t want to stay somewhere I’m not wanted. I just need some peace.
BETHANY: So you’re just going to let her stay? What about what I want?
LARRY: I’m going to listen to both of you. But I won’t support cruelty just to avoid an argument.
SCENE 9 – BETHANY FINALLY APOLOGIZES
Bethany looked at Brooke’s suitcase and slowly realized how serious the situation had become. Her anger began to fade.
BETHANY: Maybe I haven’t handled everything the right way. I was frustrated and didn’t know how to deal with everything changing.
BROOKE: People get frustrated, but that doesn’t mean they should hurt someone else.
BETHANY: I’m sorry, Brooke. I didn’t realize how much my behavior was hurting you.
LARRY: An apology is a good beginning, but it only means something when your actions change too.
SCENE 10 – THE UNEXPECTED PHONE CALL
Just when everyone thought the argument was finally over, Brooke looked at her phone with a worried expression. Something unexpected had happened.
LARRY: Brooke, what’s wrong? You’ve been looking at your phone for the last few minutes.
BROOKE: Before I decided to pack my suitcase, I received a phone call from someone in Philadelphia.
BETHANY: Philadelphia? I thought you weren’t going anymore. What did they tell you?
BROOKE: They offered me a place to stay. But there’s something else. They told me something about why my original plans changed.
SCENE 11 – A SECRET THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
Larry stepped closer, confused by Brooke’s words. Bethany suddenly looked nervous and avoided making eye contact.
LARRY: What kind of information did they give you? Brooke, whatever it is, tell us.
BROOKE: I don’t think this situation happened the way either of you believes.
BETHANY: Brooke, what exactly are you trying to say?
BROOKE: Someone in this house already knew the truth about Philadelphia.
LARRY: Wait! Bethany, what is she talking about?
BROOKE: I think it’s time everyone knew the truth.
