SHARRA LEAVES WITH DRE AFTER LEARNING LARRY IS GOING AWAY WITH BROOKE AND BETHANY!
Sharra thought she could handle anything Larry did, but when she discovered he was planning a trip with Brooke and Bethany, her confidence shattered. She had spent so much time worrying about Larry’s decisions that she had forgotten to consider what she wanted for herself. Now, with Dre standing beside her and offering her a way out of the drama, Sharra was about to make a decision that could change everything.
Sharra sat on the couch, scrolling through her phone, when a message caught her attention. She read it twice, hoping she had misunderstood. Larry was preparing to leave town with Brooke and Bethany. The thought of all three of them traveling together made her stomach tighten. She immediately called someone who might know more, but the conversation only confirmed what she feared.
SHARRA: “So Larry is really going with Brooke and Bethany? He didn’t even think to tell me himself?”
FRIEND: “That’s what I heard. They’re making plans, and it sounds like everything is already arranged.”
Sharra ended the call and tossed her phone onto the couch. She had expected Larry to do something that would upset her eventually, but she had not expected him to make plans with Brooke and Bethany while leaving her completely out of the picture.
SHARRA: “Unbelievable. Everybody gets to know what’s going on except me. Larry makes his decisions, Brooke gets whatever attention she wants, and somehow I’m supposed to sit here like none of it matters.”
A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts. When she opened it, Dre stood outside, looking at her face carefully.
DRE: “What’s wrong with you? I called you earlier, and you didn’t answer. Now you look like you’re ready to argue with the whole world.”
SHARRA: “Maybe I am. Did you know Larry is going away with Brooke and Bethany?”
Dre raised his eyebrows.
DRE: “No. When is this happening?”
SHARRA: “Soon, apparently. Everybody is making plans, and I’m finding out about them from other people. I’m tired of feeling like I’m the last person who matters.”
Dre stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
DRE: “Sharra, you can’t keep letting Larry’s decisions control your entire day. If he’s going on a trip with them, that’s his choice. The question is, what are you going to do about your own life?”
Sharra looked at him. His words sounded simple, but they touched a nerve she had been trying to ignore.
SHARRA: “What am I supposed to do, Dre? Pretend I don’t care? Pretend it doesn’t bother me that Larry can make time for Brooke and Bethany but never seems to consider how anybody else feels?”
DRE: “I’m not asking you to pretend. I’m asking you to stop waiting for Larry to make you feel important. You have choices, too.”
Sharra turned away, folding her arms across her chest. She knew Dre was making sense, but accepting his advice meant admitting that she had allowed Larry’s actions to affect her more than she wanted to acknowledge.
Dre watched her for a moment before changing the subject.
DRE: “You remember we talked about getting away for a few days? Just you and me, somewhere we can breathe without everybody else’s problems following us?”
Sharra slowly turned back toward him.
SHARRA: “You mean actually leaving town?”
DRE: “Yes. We could go somewhere quiet, enjoy ourselves, and stop spending every minute talking about Larry, Brooke, and Bethany. I’m serious, Sharra. We don’t have to wait for other people to decide when we deserve some peace.”
For the first time that afternoon, Sharra seemed to consider something other than Larry’s plans. The idea of going away with Dre appealed to her, although she was not sure whether she wanted the trip because she genuinely wanted to spend time with him or because she wanted to prove she could move on without Larry.
SHARRA: “When were you thinking about going?”
DRE: “We could leave tomorrow morning if you’re ready.”
Sharra stared at him in surprise.
SHARRA: “Tomorrow? Dre, that’s quick. I haven’t packed anything, and I have things I need to take care of.”
DRE: “Then we’ll take care of them. I’m not forcing you to go. But I don’t want you to say no just because you’re upset about Larry.”
His answer made Sharra pause. Dre was giving her a choice instead of demanding that she follow his plans. That alone felt different from the situation she had been struggling with.
She picked up her phone and opened Larry’s contact. For several seconds, she considered calling him and demanding an explanation. She wanted to hear him say that the trip with Brooke and Bethany was not what she thought it was. She wanted him to acknowledge that she had feelings, too.
But what would happen if she called? Another argument? Another conversation in which she ended up feeling ignored?
She locked her phone.
SHARRA: “I’m going with you.”
Dre studied her expression, making sure she meant it.
DRE: “Are you sure?”
SHARRA: “Yes. If Larry can make plans with Brooke and Bethany without worrying about what I think, then I can make plans without waiting for his permission. I’m tired of sitting around wondering what he’s doing.”
Dre nodded, pleased but careful not to celebrate too quickly.
DRE: “All right. Let’s make this trip about us enjoying ourselves, not about trying to get a reaction from Larry.”
SHARRA: “I’m not doing this for Larry. I’m doing it because I’m tired of feeling stuck.”
Even as she spoke, Sharra knew the truth was more complicated. Part of her wanted freedom, but another part wanted Larry to discover that she had left with Dre and finally understand what it felt like to be excluded.
The next morning, Sharra packed a suitcase while Dre waited outside. She checked her phone one final time, expecting perhaps a message from Larry. There was nothing.
She felt a familiar sting of disappointment, but instead of unpacking her things or changing her mind, she zipped her suitcase and carried it to the door.
DRE: “Ready?”
SHARRA: “Let’s go.”
They drove away together, leaving behind the arguments, the unanswered questions, and the constant tension that had filled Sharra’s days. For a while, she watched the scenery pass through the window and tried to convince herself that she had made the right decision.
Dre glanced at her.
DRE: “You haven’t said much since we left. Are you still thinking about Larry?”
SHARRA: “I’m thinking about everything. I want to enjoy this trip, but I can’t just switch off my feelings because we’re leaving town.”
DRE: “I understand that. I’m not asking you to forget anything overnight. I just want you to give yourself a chance to enjoy something different.”
Sharra looked at him and gave a small nod.
SHARRA: “Then let’s do that. No arguing about Larry, no chasing after anybody, and no letting other people’s decisions ruin our time together.”
DRE: “That’s exactly what I want.”
For the next several hours, they talked about their plans and where they would stay. Sharra even laughed when Dre teased her about packing enough clothes for a month when they were only going away for a few days. Slowly, the tension in her shoulders began to ease.
Meanwhile, Larry was busy preparing for his own trip with Brooke and Bethany. He had no idea Sharra had left town with Dre. When Bethany asked whether he had spoken to Sharra recently, Larry shrugged and said he had been occupied with preparations.
BETHANY: “You might want to check on her before we leave. You know how quickly misunderstandings can turn into arguments.”
LARRY: “Sharra can take care of herself. I can’t spend my entire life explaining every decision I make.”
Brooke, who had been listening nearby, exchanged a brief look with Bethany.
BROOKE: “Maybe she heard about our trip and got upset.”
LARRY: “Then she should talk to me instead of assuming the worst.”
But Sharra was already miles away, and she had no intention of calling him.
That evening, Dre and Sharra arrived at their destination and checked into their hotel. For the first time in days, Sharra allowed herself to relax. She placed her suitcase beside the bed and walked toward the window, looking out at the unfamiliar streets below.
Then her phone began vibrating.
Larry’s name appeared on the screen.
Sharra froze. After ignoring him all day, she had not expected him to call now. She glanced at Dre, who immediately noticed the change in her expression.
DRE: “Is that Larry?”
Sharra nodded, watching the phone continue to ring.
DRE: “You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.”
She hesitated before finally accepting the call.
SHARRA: “Hello?”
Larry sounded irritated, as though he had been searching for her for some time.
LARRY: “Where are you, Sharra? I’ve been trying to reach you. Somebody told me you left town with Dre. Is that true?”
Sharra straightened, surprised that he already knew.
SHARRA: “Yes, Larry. I’m with Dre. You made plans with Brooke and Bethany, so I made plans of my own. What’s the problem?”
LARRY: “The problem is that you disappeared without telling anybody where you were going!”
Sharra let out a disbelieving laugh.
SHARRA: “And when exactly did you tell me about your trip? You didn’t think I deserved to know until I heard it from somebody else. So don’t call me acting like I’m the only person who needs to explain herself.”
There was a long silence.
Then Larry’s voice changed.
LARRY: “Sharra, listen to me carefully. You need to tell me exactly where you are, because something has happened, and it involves Dre.”
Sharra’s smile vanished. She slowly lowered herself onto the edge of the bed while Dre watched her anxiously.
SHARRA: “What are you talking about, Larry? What happened?”
Larry took a breath.
LARRY: “I just found out something about Dre, and if it’s true, you need to know before you go any further with him.”
Sharra looked at Dre, who was now staring directly at her phone.
SHARRA: “Then stop talking in circles and tell me what you found out!”
But before Larry could reveal the truth, another call flashed across Sharra’s screen.
It was Dre’s phone number.
Sharra stared at the two calls, her heart pounding as she realized Dre was standing right in front of her while his number appeared on her screen. She slowly lifted her eyes toward him.
SHARRA: “Dre… why are you calling me when you’re standing right here?”
Dre’s expression changed instantly.
And from the other end of the line, Larry shouted one final warning.
LARRY: “SHARRA, DON’T HANG UP! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE’S BEEN KEEPING FROM YOU!”
