SCENE 1: THE JOURNEY BEGINS

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — MORNING

The morning sun shines over the quiet neighborhood. A car waits outside Bethany’s house. Two travel bags sit beside the front door.

Bethany steps outside, looking excited. Larry stands beside the car, checking their bags.

BETHANY

I can’t believe we’re finally going on this trip! I’ve been waiting for this day for so long.

LARRY

(Laughing softly)

I told you we would make it happen. We’ve planned everything, and now all we have to do is enjoy the journey.

BETHANY

I just hope nothing goes wrong at the last minute.

Larry opens the passenger door for her.

LARRY

Don’t worry. We’re ready to go.

Bethany is about to get into the car when a black vehicle suddenly turns into the driveway. Her smile disappears.

BETHANY

(Whispering in surprise)

Oh, no. That’s my dad.

The black car stops. Mr. Burger steps out with a serious expression. He looks at the bags, then at Bethany and Larry.

SCENE 2: MR. BURGER ARRIVES

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS

Mr. Burger walks toward his daughter. His eyes move from the car to the luggage.

MR. BURGER

Bethany, what is going on here?

BETHANY

Dad, Larry and I are going on a trip. We were just about to leave.

MR. BURGER

A trip? And when exactly were you planning to tell me about this?

BETHANY

Dad, I thought you already knew. We made these plans earlier, and everything is ready.

Mr. Burger shakes his head.

MR. BURGER

I don’t want to hear any more explanations right now. You are not going on this trip.

BETHANY

What? But, Dad, why?

MR. BURGER

Bethany, you are not going anywhere with Larry today. You are coming with me instead.

BETHANY

But, Dad, we’ve already planned everything. We can’t just leave everything behind!

Mr. Burger reaches for her bag, but Bethany keeps hold of it. Larry finally steps forward.

SCENE 3: LARRY SPEAKS UP

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — MOMENTS LATER

Larry stands between the car and Mr. Burger, keeping a respectful distance.

LARRY

Mr. Burger, please listen to me for a moment.

MR. BURGER

This is a matter between me and my daughter, Larry. You don’t need to get involved.

LARRY

I understand that you’re her father, and I respect that. But Bethany and I made these plans together. She wants to go on this trip, and we were ready to leave.

MR. BURGER

And you think that means you can simply take her wherever you want?

LARRY

No, sir. That’s not what I mean. I’m only asking you to give her a chance to explain herself. Please don’t make this decision without listening to her.

MR. BURGER

I have already told her what she needs to know. Bethany is coming with me.

LARRY

Mr. Burger, she can still come with me. We have everything planned, and I promise we’ll be careful.

BETHANY

Larry…

MR. BURGER

You’re not listening to me. I said she is coming with me!

LARRY

And I’m asking you to let her go with me.

Silence falls over the driveway. Bethany stands between them, holding her bag, unsure what will happen next.

SCENE 4: BETHANY IS CAUGHT BETWEEN THEM

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS

A gentle breeze moves through the trees. Bethany takes a small step forward.

BETHANY

Dad, please. Can we talk about this calmly?

MR. BURGER

Bethany, I’m doing this because I’m your father. I have reasons for what I’m saying.

BETHANY

Then tell me those reasons. I’m willing to listen, but you can’t expect me to understand if you won’t explain anything.

MR. BURGER

There are things you don’t understand yet.

BETHANY

Then help me understand them, Dad.

Larry remains quiet, allowing Bethany to speak for herself.

BETHANY

I was excited about this trip. We worked hard to plan it, and I was looking forward to spending the day away from our usual routine.

BETHANY

I don’t want everyone arguing. I just want you to listen to me.

MR. BURGER

And what happens if something goes wrong? Have you thought about that?

BETHANY

Of course I have. We have a plan, and we can keep in touch with you.

LARRY

You can call us whenever you need to, sir. We can also tell you where we’re going and when we expect to return.

MR. BURGER

Promises are easy to make, Larry.

LARRY

I know, sir. That’s why I’m asking you to judge me by how I behave, not just by what I say.

SCENE 5: A FATHER’S FINAL WARNING

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — LATER

Mr. Burger walks a few steps away from the car. He looks toward the road, then back at Bethany.

MR. BURGER

Bethany, I need you to understand something. When I tell you that I’m worried about you, it doesn’t mean I want to ruin your plans.

BETHANY

Then why does it feel like you don’t trust me?

MR. BURGER

Because I’m responsible for you, and sometimes I have to make difficult decisions.

BETHANY

But I’m asking you to trust me enough to talk about those decisions.

LARRY

Sir, I know I can’t replace your judgment as her father. I’m not asking you to ignore your concerns. I’m asking you to give us an opportunity to show you that we can handle this responsibly.

MR. BURGER

And if I still say no?

LARRY

Then we’ll have to keep talking until we understand each other. I don’t want Bethany to leave feeling that nobody listened to her.

MR. BURGER

So you really want to go on this trip?

BETHANY

Yes, Dad. I really do. But I don’t want to fight with you to make it happen.

Mr. Burger takes a slow breath, his expression becoming thoughtful.

SCENE 6: THE MOMENT OF DECISION

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS

The three stand beside the car. The travel bags remain on the ground.

MR. BURGER

All right. Let me ask you both something.

BETHANY

What is it, Dad?

MR. BURGER

Where exactly are you planning to go, how long will you be away, and how will I know that everything is going according to plan?

LARRY

We can explain the entire plan to you, sir. We can share the destination, our schedule, and our contact details before we leave.

BETHANY

And I’ll keep my phone with me. I’ll call you when we arrive and whenever we reach an important stop.

MR. BURGER

And you understand that if I have a serious concern, we will need to discuss it?

BETHANY

Yes, Dad. I understand.

MR. BURGER

And you will make sure that you both follow the plan?

LARRY

Yes, sir. We’ll be responsible, and we’ll keep you informed.

MR. BURGER

I’m not saying yes just because you asked me to. I need to be sure that this trip is properly planned and safe.

BETHANY

That’s fair, Dad. We’ll explain everything to you.

MR. BURGER

Let’s go inside and discuss the details before anyone leaves.

Bethany looks at Larry. He gives her an encouraging nod.

SCENE 7: A NEW UNDERSTANDING

INT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — LATER THAT MORNING

The three sit around the living-room table. Larry places the trip itinerary in front of Mr. Burger. Bethany explains their plans, including the destination, the expected return time, and how they will stay in contact.

Mr. Burger studies the details and asks a few questions. Bethany answers patiently, and Larry explains anything she misses.

MR. BURGER

I still have concerns, but I appreciate that you both took the time to explain everything.

BETHANY

Does that mean I can go?

MR. BURGER

It means I’m willing to consider it, provided the arrangements are appropriate and we agree on the safety details.

BETHANY

Thank you for listening, Dad.

LARRY

Thank you for giving us a chance to explain, Mr. Burger.

MR. BURGER

Bethany, remember one thing. I may not always agree with you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about what you want.

BETHANY

I know, Dad. And I want you to know that I care about your concerns, too. I just want us to talk about them.

MR. BURGER

That’s all I wanted to hear.

The trip is no longer simply about getting into a car and leaving. It has become a lesson in patience, trust, and understanding.

SCENE 8: THE JOURNEY AWAITS

EXT. BETHANY’S HOUSE — LATE MORNING

The front door opens. Bethany steps outside with her bag, followed by Larry. Mr. Burger walks behind them.

BETHANY

I’ll keep in touch, Dad. I promise.

MR. BURGER

Enjoy yourself, Bethany. Be responsible, and remember what we discussed.

BETHANY

I will. Thank you for understanding.

LARRY

We’ll stay in contact, sir. Thank you for trusting us with the trip.

MR. BURGER

Have a good journey, Larry. And take care of yourselves.

Larry gets into the car. Bethany takes one last look at her father before getting into the passenger seat. She waves through the open window, and Mr. Burger raises his hand in response.

The engine starts. The car slowly pulls away from the driveway and turns onto the road.

BETHANY

Well, that was certainly not how I imagined our morning would begin.

LARRY

No, it wasn’t. But at least we talked things through.

BETHANY

I’m glad Dad listened. I didn’t want to choose between my plans and my family.

LARRY

You shouldn’t have to turn every disagreement into a battle. Sometimes, the most important thing is giving everyone a chance to speak.

Bethany nods thoughtfully. The car continues down the road toward the beginning of their adventure.

FADE OUT.

THE END
