Anthony sits alone in his living room, staring at his phone. For several minutes, he thinks about everything that has happened between him and Amber.

The divorce has become more complicated than he expected. Amber is demanding money and property, while Anthony believes he should not have to give her everything she is asking for.

Anthony finally decides to call his lawyer. When the lawyer answers, Anthony immediately changes his tone.

“Hey, I need to talk to you about the divorce,” Anthony says.

His lawyer asks, “What happened?”

Anthony takes a deep breath before saying, “I think I am ready to give Amber the divorce.”

His lawyer is surprised. “You are finally ready to move forward?”

Anthony quickly responds, “Yes. I don’t want to keep fighting with her anymore.”

But Anthony is not telling his lawyer the entire truth. He does not explain everything that happened between him and Amber. He does not mention every argument over the property. He does not fully explain what happened with the car.

Most importantly, Anthony does not tell his lawyer everything about D’Nisha living with him while he is still married to Amber.

Anthony believes he can control the situation by telling his lawyer only what he wants him to know.

But he has no idea that his lawyer is about to hear the other side.

Anthony’s lawyer listens carefully. He can hear something unusual in Anthony’s explanation.

“You’re telling me you want the divorce now,” the lawyer says. “But what about the property dispute?”

Anthony pauses. “I’ll deal with that later,” he says.

The lawyer immediately becomes suspicious.

“Anthony, I need the complete story. I cannot represent you properly if you leave important information out.”

Anthony insists that everything is under control. “I just want the divorce finalized,” he says.

But the lawyer tells him that divorce proceedings are not simply about signing papers. There are property issues, financial issues, and other matters that can become important.

Anthony becomes uncomfortable. He knows there are things he has not told his lawyer.

Instead of telling the truth, Anthony tries to change the subject. “I just need you to get Amber to agree to the divorce,” he says.

Then the lawyer says something Anthony never expected: “I think I need to speak with Amber myself.”

Anthony’s face changes. “What do you mean?”

“I will personally invite Amber to my office. I need to hear her side of the story.”

Anthony realizes his plan may be falling apart.

Later that day, Anthony’s lawyer contacts Amber. He asks her to come to his office for a private conversation.

Amber is surprised by the invitation. She immediately wonders why Anthony’s lawyer suddenly wants to speak with her.

When she arrives, the lawyer welcomes her into his office. Amber sits down and looks serious.

The lawyer tells her, “I want you to tell me everything from your perspective.”

Amber looks at him carefully. “Does Anthony know I am here?”

The lawyer answers, “Yes. I need to understand what is really happening between you and Anthony.”

Amber takes a deep breath. For a moment, she says nothing. Then she begins explaining everything.

She tells him about the divorce. She tells him about the property. She tells him about the money. She tells him about the car.

And then she begins talking about the house.

The lawyer realizes very quickly that Amber’s version is completely different from what Anthony told him.

Amber looks directly at Anthony’s lawyer. “Anthony told you he wants to give me a divorce, right?”

The lawyer nods.

Amber shakes her head. “That is not the whole story.”

The lawyer asks, “What do you mean?”

Amber explains that Anthony has offered her only ten percent of the property.

The lawyer’s expression changes. “Ten percent?”

“Yes,” Amber says. “That is what he offered me.”

Amber explains that she does not believe ten percent represents what she believes she is entitled to receive from their property dispute.

“He keeps acting like I have no right to anything,” Amber says.

The lawyer asks why Anthony believes he can keep everything.

Amber responds, “Because he keeps telling me that I have no right to his money or property.”

The lawyer writes down every detail.

Then Amber reveals another part of the story. “And that’s not even everything.”

Amber tells the lawyer about the car. “Anthony also took the car away from me.”

The lawyer looks up from his notes. “He took the car?”

“Yes,” Amber answers.

She explains how the situation made her feel that Anthony was deliberately taking things away from her.

First, there was the property dispute. Then there was the money. Now there was the car.

Amber says Anthony kept acting as though she had no claim to anything.

The lawyer asks, “Did Anthony explain to you why he took the car?”

Amber responds that she knows what Anthony has told her, but she believes there is much more behind his actions.

The lawyer continues writing.

Amber then brings up another major issue.

“Anthony also kicked me out of the house.”

The lawyer stops writing. “You were living in the house?”

Amber nods. “Yes. And now he is living there with D’Nisha.”

Amber explains that Anthony has kept D’Nisha living with him while he and Amber are still legally married.

The lawyer asks Amber to explain exactly what she means.

“Anthony never gave me the divorce. But he has been living with D’Nisha this whole time.”

The lawyer looks concerned.

Amber continues. “He kicked me out, kept the house, and allowed D’Nisha to stay there with him.”

The lawyer asks, “And what does Anthony say about this?”

Amber answers, “He acts like none of it matters.”

She tells the lawyer that Anthony has repeatedly taunted her during their arguments.

“He keeps telling me that I have no right to his money or property.”

Amber then says something that makes the lawyer look even more serious.

“And now he is giving my property money to D’Nisha.”

The room becomes completely quiet.

The lawyer realizes that this is no longer just a simple divorce conversation.

The lawyer puts his pen down. “Amber, are you telling me that Anthony never explained these things to me?”

Amber shakes her head. “I don’t know what he told you. But I know what happened to me.”

The lawyer begins reviewing everything Anthony told him earlier.

Anthony said he simply wanted the divorce. He never explained the complete property dispute. He never explained the ten-percent offer. He never fully explained the car situation.

He never explained that Amber had been removed from the house. He never properly explained D’Nisha’s living arrangement.

The lawyer realizes there are too many missing pieces.

“I need to verify everything you have told me,” the lawyer says.

Amber responds, “That’s all I am asking. I want someone to actually listen to my side.”

The lawyer now knows that Anthony left out important information.

Amber becomes emotional as she continues speaking.

“I don’t want Anthony to keep everything and pretend I never had any rights.”

She tells the lawyer that she wants the money and property she believes belong to her returned.

“He keeps telling me I have no right to his money,” Amber says. “But I was his wife. We built things together.”

“And now he wants me to leave with ten percent?”

The lawyer listens without interrupting.

Amber says she wants everything handled properly. “I don’t want Anthony hiding things from you anymore.”

The lawyer explains that disputed property and financial matters must ultimately be addressed according to applicable law and evidence.

Amber nods. “That is exactly what I want.”

She then mentions D’Nisha again.

“Anthony made choices while he was still married to me. Now he needs to explain those choices.”

After Amber leaves the office, Anthony’s lawyer immediately calls him.

“Anthony, I need you to come to my office.”

Anthony asks, “Why?”

“I need to talk to you in person.”

Anthony becomes nervous. When he arrives, his lawyer does not waste time.

“I spoke with Amber.”

Anthony freezes. “What did she tell you?”

The lawyer looks directly at him. “She told me about the ten-percent offer.”

Anthony remains silent.

“She told me about the car.”

Anthony looks away.

“She told me you kicked her out of the house.”

Anthony tries to interrupt. But the lawyer raises his hand.

“And she told me about D’Nisha living with you.”

Anthony realizes his lawyer knows much more than he expected.

The lawyer asks the most important question: “Why didn’t you tell me these things?”

Anthony finally tries to explain himself. “I didn’t think all of that was important.”

His lawyer responds, “Not important?”

Anthony says, “I was trying to keep things simple.”

The lawyer tells him that hiding information made things more complicated.

Anthony tries to defend himself. “I just wanted the divorce.”

His lawyer explains that wanting a divorce does not mean he can ignore the other issues surrounding the marriage.

“You called me and told me you were ready to give Amber a divorce,” the lawyer says. “But you didn’t tell me everything that led to this situation.”

Anthony becomes quiet.

The lawyer tells him that there are several major issues he now has to examine.

The property. The money. The car. The house. Amber’s claims. And D’Nisha’s involvement.

Anthony realizes his lawyer is no longer simply trying to finalize the divorce. Now his lawyer is trying to understand exactly what happened.

Anthony’s lawyer finally loses his patience.

“You hid six important things from me.”

Anthony looks shocked.

“Second, you hid the fact that you offered Amber only ten percent.”

“Fourth, you hid the fact that Amber says you kicked her out of the house.”

“Fifth, you hid that D’Nisha has been living with you while your marriage to Amber remains unresolved.”

“And sixth, you never told me that Amber claims you have been using or giving disputed property money to D’Nisha.”

Anthony tries to respond. But the lawyer cuts him off.

“You cannot expect me to protect you from problems you refuse to tell me about.”

Anthony realizes that his lawyer is no longer accepting his story without question.

Anthony sits quietly. For the first time, he realizes Amber is not simply going to accept whatever he offers.

His lawyer tells him, “Amber is prepared to fight for her position.”

Anthony asks, “So what happens now?”

The lawyer answers, “Now we have to deal with the claims properly.”
