BETHANY’S AIRPORT ARRIVAL ENDS IN A SHOCKING CONFRONTATION
Soft sunlight filters through the curtains.
An open suitcase rests on the bed.
BETHANY checks her flight details before picking up her phone.
She takes a deep breath and dials LARRY.
The phone rings.
Hello?
Larry glances at his watch while organizing paperwork on his desk.
He sighs.
Bethany’s expression instantly changes.
Her smile disappears.
Absolutely not.
Sharra is never picking me up from the airport.
There is an awkward silence.
Larry rubs his forehead.
Don’t make this difficult.
If you can’t come, then send Brooke.
I’ll be fine with Brooke.
I’ll send both Sharra and Brooke.
Bethany hesitates before nodding.
As long as Brooke is there.
Larry ends the call. Bethany slowly lowers her phone, hoping everything will go smoothly. She has no idea the day is about to become much worse.
Larry places his phone on the desk.
Sharra walks inside carrying a cup of coffee.
I told her we’d come.
Larry quietly agrees.
Golden sunlight shines across the crowded airport. Cars pull in and out of the arrival lane. Families reunite. Children run toward their parents. Travelers push luggage across the sidewalk.
A passenger plane slowly taxis toward the terminal. Minutes later, passengers begin walking through the arrival doors. Bethany appears, pulling a rolling suitcase behind her. She looks tired but relieved.
Bethany turns around with a bright smile. Jussi walks toward her and the two warmly embrace. They begin talking while walking toward the exit. Neither of them notices Larry watching from nearby.
Larry’s SUV slowly pulls to the curb. Sharra sits in the passenger seat. Larry looks toward the entrance… Then freezes. His eyes lock onto Bethany and Jussi.
Larry says nothing. He steps out of the SUV. His face burns with anger.
This is Jussi.
Really?
So this is why you didn’t want me coming?
I only asked Brooke to come because I wasn’t comfortable with Sharra.
This isn’t about her anymore.
It’s about him.
We’re standing in the middle of the airport.
Travelers stop to watch. Whispers spread through the crowd. The tension grows heavier.
Now I know why.
You wanted your boyfriend waiting for you instead.
The first thing you did was accuse me instead of asking questions.
Something like this happens.
The argument grows louder. Several travelers begin recording with their phones.
Stay with him.
I’m done.
Don’t leave like this.
Larry ignores her, gets back into the SUV with Sharra, and drives away. Bethany watches in silence as tears fill her eyes.
I just didn’t expect today to end like this.
A black luxury sedan pulls up. MR. NEWBURGER steps out.
What happened?
You don’t need to stand here.
Bethany nods. Jussi places her suitcase in the trunk. She quietly thanks him before getting into the car.
The sedan drives through the city. Bethany silently stares out the window. Mr. Newburger glances toward her.
Bethany slowly nods. The pain in her eyes says everything.
The elegant home glows beneath the orange evening sky. Bethany quietly walks toward the front door. Before entering, she looks back toward the road, wondering if Larry will ever understand the truth.
