Brooke’s Shocking Call to Larry

Brooke’s Shocking Call to Larry

A Family Drama Scene

Int. Brooke’s Bedroom – Night

The house is unusually quiet, the kind of silence that feels heavier than noise. A digital clock on Brooke’s nightstand glows 2:15 A.M. in sharp red numbers, the only light in the dim room besides the faint glow of the streetlamp outside.

Brooke sits on the edge of her bed, knees pulled close, her foot tapping nervously against the floor. She has checked her phone at least a dozen times in the last hour, though nothing new has appeared on the screen. Her eyes keep drifting toward the front window, waiting for something she almost doesn’t want to see.

Then — headlights sweep slowly across the driveway, cutting through the darkness of the room. A car rolls to a stop outside. Brooke’s breath catches. Her eyes widen as she watches Sharra step quietly out of the passenger side.

The driver never gets out. Sharra leans down toward the open window, smiling, saying something Brooke can’t hear before gently closing the door. The car pulls away into the night, taillights fading down the street.

Brooke freezes at the window. Her expression shifts — from confusion, to disbelief, to quiet disappointment. She whispers to herself, almost afraid to say it out loud.

Brooke
“She really came home at two in the morning…”

Downstairs, Sharra quietly unlocks the front door and slips inside, careful not to make a sound. Brooke steps back from the window just in time, her heart pounding. She stands frozen in the dark, thinking.

Something doesn’t feel right. Her mind flashes back to earlier that day — the unmistakable image of Sharra laughing with her ex outside the coffee shop, a moment Brooke had brushed off then but can’t ignore now. And now this. Home in the middle of the night, dropped off by someone who wouldn’t even step out of the car.

Brooke exhales deeply, the weight of it settling in her chest. She knows she can’t carry this alone. Only one person comes to mind — someone who deserves to know the truth. Larry.

She grabs her phone from the nightstand, her thumb hovering over his name. She hesitates, unsure if she’s about to break something that can’t be fixed. Then, finally, she presses Call.

The phone rings once. Twice. Three times. Brooke’s stomach tightens with every passing second. Then, finally—

Int. Hotel Room – Same Time

Larry sits alone in a quiet hotel room, business papers spread messily across the table in front of him. The lamp casts a dim yellow light over stacks of contracts he hasn’t had the energy to finish reading. He looks exhausted, the kind of tired that settles deep into the bones after a long day of meetings and travel.

His phone lights up on the table. BROOKE CALLING.

He answers immediately, sitting up a little straighter, a flicker of concern already crossing his face.

Larry
“Hey, Brooke. Is everything okay?”

Brooke struggles to find the right words, her voice catching in her throat.

Brooke
“Dad… I need to tell you something.”

Larry instantly senses something is wrong. He sits up straight, papers forgotten.

Larry
“What happened?”

Brooke glances toward the hallway, making sure Sharra can’t hear her through the walls. She lowers her voice to barely above a whisper.

Brooke
“Sharra has been hanging out with her ex.”

Larry blinks, certain he must have misheard.

Larry
“Her… ex?”
Brooke
“Yeah. I saw them together earlier today.”

Larry’s face grows serious. He slowly rises from his chair, the papers sliding forgotten to the table.

Larry
“Are you sure?”
Brooke
“Positive.”

A heavy silence stretches across the line. Brooke takes another breath — she isn’t finished yet.

Brooke
“And that’s not all.”

Larry’s heartbeat begins to race, dread pooling in his stomach.

Larry
“What else?”

Brooke glances toward the front door one more time.

Brooke
“She just got home.”

Larry checks the time on his phone. 2:16 A.M. His eyes widen in disbelief.

Larry
“What do you mean she just got home?”
Brooke
“She didn’t come home until two o’clock.”

Larry is completely shocked. He lowers himself slowly back into the chair, rubbing his forehead in disbelief. Everything suddenly feels different — the trust he had placed in Sharra, the plans they’d made together, all of it now shadowed by doubt.

Questions begin racing through his mind. Where had she been? Why was she with her ex? Why come home so late, and so quietly? None of it makes sense, and yet all of it feels connected.

Larry closes his eyes for a brief moment, forcing himself to stay calm. Then he speaks, steady and measured.

Larry
“Did she see you?”
Brooke
“No. I watched from my room.”

Larry nods to himself, grateful that Brooke has kept a level head through all of this.

Larry
“Did anyone else notice?”
Brooke
“I don’t think so.”

Another pause settles between them. Larry carefully thinks through the situation, unwilling to jump to conclusions — but unable to ignore what he’s just heard. He knows he needs more information before confronting Sharra directly. His voice turns firm.

Larry
“Brooke… I need you to do something for me.”

Brooke listens closely, sitting up a little straighter.

Brooke
“Okay.”
Larry
“Keep an eye on Sharra. Don’t argue with her. Don’t accuse her. Just watch.”

Brooke nods, even though he can’t see her.

Brooke
“You want me to see if anything else happens?”
Larry
“Exactly. If she leaves again… if she talks to her ex… if anything seems strange… call me immediately.”

Brooke understands, her voice steadying.

Brooke
“I will.”

Larry sighs deeply, a weight settling over him that he never expected to carry tonight. He never imagined getting this kind of phone call — not from his own daughter, not about someone he trusted so completely. His mind fills with concern as he quietly looks out the hotel window into the dark, sprawling night.

Something tells him this situation is only just beginning.

FADE OUT.
