Brookie’s Call — Night
The house is quiet. Brookie sits on the edge of the couch, staring at her phone, visibly nervous, as if debating whether to make the call. Finally, she takes a breath and calls Larry.
LARRY: Hello, Brookie. What’s going on?
BROOKIE: Larry, I need to tell you something about Sharra.
Larry immediately notices the seriousness in her voice.
LARRY: What happened?
BROOKIE: Sharra went out last night with Trey.
A long silence follows. Larry’s expression changes — he sits up, clearly upset.
LARRY: Trey? Her ex-boyfriend?
BROOKIE: Yes. She went out with him last night.
Larry looks away from the phone, trying to process it.
LARRY: Are you sure about this?
BROOKIE: Yes. I wouldn’t call you if I wasn’t sure.
Larry takes a deep breath.
LARRY: Okay. I’m coming to Baton Rouge.
BROOKIE: Larry, please. Just calm down and talk to her first.
LARRY: I need to hear this from her.
The call ends. Brookie stares at the phone, worried about what’s about to happen.
The Drive to Baton Rouge
Larry grabs his keys and walks outside, gets into his car, and starts the engine. The road stretches ahead as he drives toward Baton Rouge, his mind replaying Brookie’s words.
He glances at the photo Brookie sent him — Trey and Sharra together, hugging.
LARRY: Why would Sharra do this?
He sets the phone down and keeps driving. The tension grows with every mile.
Baton Rouge — Later That Night
Inside the house, Brookie and Sharra sit together. Brookie keeps checking the window.
SHARRA: Why do you keep looking outside?
BROOKIE: I just have a feeling something is about to happen.
Sharra looks confused. Before Brookie can answer, headlights appear outside. She freezes, recognizing the car.
BROOKIE: Oh no…
SHARRA: What?
The front door opens. Larry walks inside. The room suddenly goes silent.
SHARRA: Larry? What are you doing here?
The Photo
Larry doesn’t answer immediately. He takes out his phone.
LARRY: I came here because I need an explanation.
SHARRA: An explanation for what?
Larry walks closer and holds up the photo.
LARRY: For this.
Sharra looks at the screen. Her face changes instantly.
LARRY: What is this, Sharra? Tell me what happened.
SHARRA: Larry, that’s not what you think.
LARRY: Then tell me what it is. This is you and Trey. You were out with him last night.
SHARRA: That picture doesn’t prove anything.
LARRY: Then why were you with him?
An Excuse
Sharra pauses, looking toward Brookie.
SHARRA: I was there because of Brookie.
Brookie immediately looks confused.
BROOKIE: Because of me?
SHARRA: Yes. I was trying to help with something.
Larry shakes his head.
LARRY: Don’t use Brookie’s name as an excuse. You went out with your ex, and now you’re trying to make it sound like you had another reason.
SHARRA: That’s not true.
LARRY: Then tell me the truth.
Fake?
Sharra takes a breath.
SHARRA: That picture is fake.
Larry stares at her.
LARRY: Fake?
SHARRA: Yes. Someone changed it. That’s not what happened.
Brookie looks shocked.
BROOKIE: Sharra, why are you saying that?
SHARRA: Because it’s true!
Larry looks between the two women.
LARRY: Brookie sent me this picture herself.
Sharra’s eyes widen.
SHARRA: Maybe she misunderstood what she saw.
Brookie looks hurt by the accusation.
BROOKIE: I didn’t misunderstand anything.
LARRY: Enough. I don’t want anyone blaming Brookie. I came here because I wanted the truth.
SHARRA: And I’m telling you the truth. That picture isn’t real.
Larry looks down at the photo again. For a moment, nobody speaks.
Brookie’s Worry
Brookie slowly steps away from them, looking overwhelmed by everything happening around her.
BROOKIE: I only told Larry because I thought he deserved to know.
Larry turns toward her.
LARRY: You did the right thing by telling me.
Brookie nods, still looking worried.
BROOKIE: But what happens now?
Larry doesn’t answer immediately. He looks at Sharra, then back at the photo.
LARRY: Now, we find out what really happened.
Sharra remains silent. Brookie watches her carefully — something about Sharra’s reaction makes her even more suspicious.
BROOKIE: Sharra… if the picture is fake, then why are you so nervous?
SHARRA: I’m not nervous.
BROOKIE: You are.
Larry looks between them.
LARRY: Then let’s stop arguing and figure out the truth.
Not Over
The room falls silent again. Larry keeps the phone in his hand, the photo still on the screen. Brookie looks at Sharra, wondering what she’s hiding. Sharra looks away.
Larry realizes there may be more to the story than he first thought.
LARRY: This isn’t over.
Brookie takes a slow breath, looking at Sharra. For the first time, she wonders whether the picture was only the beginning.
Some truths don’t arrive all at once — they arrive one nervous glance at a time.
