THE SECRET DINNER
A Story of Suspicion, Trust & Betrayal
INT. ANTHONY AND D’NISHA’S HOUSE — EVENING
The house is quiet. D’Nisha is finishing some work when her phone suddenly begins to ring.
D’NISHA
Hello?
Wayne’s voice comes through the phone.
WAYNE
Hey, D’Nisha. I wanted to ask you something. Are you free tonight?
D’NISHA
Tonight? Why?
WAYNE
I was hoping we could have dinner and talk about the podcast. There are a few things I want to discuss with you.
D’Nisha thinks for a moment before answering.
D’NISHA
Okay. Sure. I can come.
What D’Nisha doesn’t realize is that Anthony is standing near the doorway, listening to everything.
WAYNE
Great. I’ll see you later.
D’NISHA
Okay. See you.
The call ends. Anthony quietly walks away, hiding his reaction.
INT. BEDROOM — LATER
D’Nisha stands in front of the mirror, getting ready. Anthony appears at the bedroom doorway.
ANTHONY
Where are you going?
D’NISHA
I told you. I have something to do for the podcast.
ANTHONY
Tonight?
D’NISHA
Yes. Wayne wants to talk about some podcast business.
Anthony becomes quiet. He remembers the phone conversation he overheard.
ANTHONY
Wayne?
D’NISHA
Yes. It’s about work.
Anthony looks away. He wants to ask more questions, but he stops himself.
ANTHONY
Okay.
D’Nisha picks up her purse and leaves the house.
EXT. HOUSE — NIGHT
D’Nisha gets into her car and drives away.
A few moments later, Anthony comes outside. He looks down the street and sees D’Nisha’s car disappearing into the distance.
ANTHONY
Where are you really going, D’Nisha?
Anthony gets into his own car and quietly follows her.
EXT. HOTEL — NIGHT
D’Nisha arrives at a hotel. She gets out of her car and walks toward the entrance.
Anthony stops farther away and watches her.
Anthony’s suspicion grows as he watches D’Nisha enter the hotel.
INT. HOTEL LOBBY — NIGHT
D’Nisha walks through the lobby and sees Wayne waiting for her.
WAYNE
You made it.
D’NISHA
Of course.
Wayne welcomes D’Nisha with a brief hug. They begin walking toward the restaurant area.
Anthony enters the lobby and suddenly sees them together.
Anthony’s expression changes immediately. He watches them from across the room, convinced that something is being hidden from him.
INT. HOTEL RESTAURANT — NIGHT
WAYNE
I wanted to talk about some changes with the podcast.
D’NISHA
What kind of changes?
WAYNE
I’m thinking about giving you more responsibility.
D’NISHA
Seriously?
WAYNE
Yes. You’ve been doing a lot, and I think you can handle more.
D’NISHA
Thank you. That means a lot.
Outside the restaurant area, Anthony watches them. He cannot hear their conversation, making his assumptions even stronger.
INT. HOTEL HALLWAY — NIGHT
Wayne and D’Nisha walk down the hallway while continuing their conversation.
D’NISHA
I really appreciate you trusting me with this.
WAYNE
You earned it.
Wayne gives D’Nisha a friendly goodbye hug.
Anthony sees the moment from a distance and becomes furious. From his point of view, everything looks like a betrayal.
ANTHONY
D’Nisha!
D’Nisha freezes and turns around. Her eyes widen when she sees Anthony.
D’NISHA
Anthony?
ANTHONY
So this is the podcast meeting?
D’NISHA
Yes. That’s exactly what this is.
ANTHONY
Then why did you make it sound like something completely different?
D’NISHA
I didn’t hide anything from you.
ANTHONY
You left the house without telling me the whole story.
D’NISHA
I told you I was meeting Wayne about the podcast.
Wayne realizes the argument is becoming personal and steps back.
WAYNE
Anthony, we were just discussing the podcast.
ANTHONY
I wasn’t talking to you.
D’NISHA
Anthony, stop.
INT. HOTEL HALLWAY — CONTINUOUS
Anthony’s anger slowly gives way to hurt.
ANTHONY
I trusted you.
D’NISHA
And you followed me?
Anthony doesn’t answer immediately. His silence says everything.
D’NISHA
You followed me here?
ANTHONY
I wanted to know the truth.
D’NISHA
You could have asked me.
ANTHONY
Would you have told me?
D’NISHA
Yes.
D’Nisha realizes Anthony has already made up his mind about what happened.
D’NISHA
You thought I was cheating on you.
Anthony remains silent.
D’NISHA
You didn’t even give me a chance to explain.
ANTHONY
I was angry.
D’NISHA
Being angry doesn’t give you the right to decide what happened before hearing the truth.
INT. HOTEL HALLWAY — NIGHT
Anthony takes a deep breath. His anger begins to fade, replaced by regret.
ANTHONY
I’m sorry for following you. But seeing you here with Wayne made me think something was going on.
D’NISHA
Then you should have trusted me enough to ask.
Wayne quietly walks away, giving them space to talk.
ANTHONY
I understand.
D’Nisha picks up her purse and prepares to leave.
D’NISHA
I’m going home.
D’Nisha walks toward the hotel entrance. Anthony watches her leave, realizing that his jealousy has created a serious problem between them.
ANTHONY STANDS ALONE — WONDERING IF HIS SUSPICIONS HAVE DESTROYED HIS TRUST WITH D’NISHA.
