HOPE & FAITH — THE FREE FOOD CONSEQUENCES
HOPE & FAITH — THE FREE FOOD CONSEQUENCES

🎬 SCENE 1 — INT. WHATABURGER — EVENING

The dining room is crowded. Orders keep coming in as the warm scent of burgers and fries drifts through the air.

Behind the counter, HOPE and FAITH quietly pack several leftover meals into bags.

They glance at each other, clearly uneasy.

HOPE

(softly)
Look at all this food still left. Throwing it out feels wrong.

FAITH

I know. There are people outside who haven’t eaten all day.

Hope glances toward the front doors.

HOPE

We should give some of it to them.

Faith pauses, uncertain.

FAITH

Hope… we could get in serious trouble.

HOPE

We’re not stealing for ourselves. We’re just trying to help.

They start handing the bags to people standing outside.

Neither of them notices the restaurant manager watching from across the floor.

🎬 SCENE 2 — EXT. WHATABURGER — MOMENTS LATER

Hope passes a bag to a waiting customer. Faith hands another to someone nearby.

Both girls smile, believing they’ve done something good.

Then the MANAGER steps outside. Her face is firm and unreadable.

MANAGER

Hope. Faith.

Both girls stop cold.

HOPE

(startled)
Manager?

FAITH

We can explain everything.

MANAGER

Explain why you are giving away restaurant food without permission.

HOPE

We thought it was going to be thrown away.

MANAGER

That decision was never yours to make.

FAITH

We only wanted to help people who needed it.

MANAGER

Good intentions don’t give you the right to take company property.

Hope’s face tightens with worry.

🎬 SCENE 3 — INT. WHATABURGER OFFICE — EVENING

The manager walks Hope and Faith into the back office and shuts the door.

The room feels heavy.

MANAGER

Do either of you understand how serious this is?

HOPE

We know we made a mistake.

FAITH

But we didn’t do it for ourselves.

MANAGER

That doesn’t change the fact that you distributed food without authorization.

She pulls a document from a folder.

MANAGER

Because of this, both of you are receiving a major fine.

HOPE

A fine?

MANAGER

Yes.

FAITH

How much is it?

The manager names the amount. Both girls go silent, stunned.

HOPE

That’s more than we can possibly pay.

MANAGER

You should have considered that before you acted.

FAITH

We were trying to do something kind.

MANAGER

Then you should have asked for permission first.

🎬 SCENE 4 — INT. WHATABURGER OFFICE — CONTINUOUS

Hope stares at the fine notice. Her hands shake slightly.

HOPE

We can’t pay this.

MANAGER

Then you’ll have to face the consequences.

FAITH

We’re not refusing out of disrespect. We simply don’t have that kind of money.

MANAGER

The fine still has to be addressed.

HOPE

Please… give us another chance.

MANAGER

I already gave you a chance when I hired you both.

Hope looks at the floor.

FAITH

Is there any other option?

MANAGER

Not after what happened tonight.

🎬 SCENE 5 — INT. WHATABURGER OFFICE — LATER

The manager reaches for the phone. Hope notices immediately.

HOPE

Who are you calling?

FAITH

Wait… you’re not calling the police, are you?

MANAGER

Since you can’t cover the fine and this involved unauthorized distribution of company property, I have to report it.

HOPE

Please don’t do that.

FAITH

It was a mistake. Nothing more.

MANAGER

I understand that. But I have responsibilities of my own.

HOPE

Please, just let us work it off somehow.

MANAGER

That decision is no longer mine to make.

🎬 SCENE 6 — EXT. WHATABURGER — NIGHT

A police car pulls into the parking lot.

Hope and Faith see the flashing lights through the office window. Their earlier confidence vanishes.

FAITH

This is actually happening.

HOPE

I never imagined giving away food would lead to this.

FAITH

Neither did I.

MANAGER

They’re here.

HOPE

We should just tell the truth.

FAITH

Yeah. We should.

They walk out of the office together.

🎬 SCENE 7 — EXT. WHATABURGER PARKING LOT — NIGHT

Two officers approach. Hope and Faith stay calm and cooperative.

OFFICER

We need to speak with both of you about what happened here.

HOPE

Yes, sir.

FAITH

We’ll tell you everything.

The manager briefly explains the situation.

HOPE

We gave the food away because we thought it was going to waste.

FAITH

We know now that we should have asked first.

OFFICER

It’s important that you understand the situation and continue to cooperate while this is handled.

HOPE

We understand.

🎬 SCENE 8 — EXT. WHATABURGER — MOMENTS LATER

Faith looks back at the restaurant, disappointment clear on her face.

FAITH

I still don’t regret wanting to help people.

HOPE

Neither do I.

FAITH

But next time, we’ll ask permission first.

HOPE

Absolutely.

The manager watches them from the doorway. Her expression remains serious, though a faint trace of sympathy shows through.

🎬 SCENE 9 — INT. POLICE VEHICLE — NIGHT

Hope and Faith sit quietly while the officers process the situation.

FAITH

Do you think we’re going to lose our jobs?

HOPE

I don’t know.

HOPE

But whatever comes next, we’ll face it together.

FAITH

Together.

🎬 SCENE 10 — EXT. WHATABURGER — NIGHT

The restaurant sign glows against the dark sky.

The manager stands near the entrance, still thinking about the night’s events.

EMPLOYEE

Do you think they meant to cause any trouble?

MANAGER

No. I don’t believe they did.

EMPLOYEE

Then why report them?

MANAGER

Because good intentions don’t cancel the rules.

MANAGER

But maybe they’ll learn something important from this.

🎬 SCENE 11 — EXT. PARKING LOT — LATER

Hope and Faith are given a chance to speak with the officers one more time.

HOPE

I wish we had handled everything differently.

FAITH

We can’t change what already happened.

FAITH

But we can learn from it.

HOPE

You’re right.

🎬 SCENE 12 — INT. WHATABURGER OFFICE — SAME NIGHT

The manager sits alone at her desk, staring at the incident report.

She remembers Hope saying they only wanted to help people.

MANAGER

(quietly, to herself)
Maybe they just need someone to show them the right way to do it.

She closes the folder slowly.

🎬 SCENE 13 — EXT. WHATABURGER — LATER

Hope and Faith prepare to leave after the officers finish speaking with them.

FAITH

Whatever happens next, we’re not giving up.

HOPE

No. We’re going to make this right.

They walk away side by side.

🎬 SCENE 14 — INT. WHATABURGER — NEXT MORNING

The restaurant opens for the day. The manager stands behind the counter.

She looks at the empty food bags left from the night before.

EMPLOYEE

What are you going to do about Hope and Faith?

MANAGER

They broke the rules.

MANAGER

But maybe there’s a lesson in this for all of us.

🎬 SCENE 15 — EXT. CITY STREET — MORNING

Hope and Faith walk together down the sidewalk.

The events of the previous night still weigh on them.

FAITH

We wanted to help people.

HOPE

And we still can.

FAITH

Just next time, we’ll do it the right way.

HOPE

Exactly.

They keep walking as the morning sun rises over the city.

Their mistake carries consequences, but they are determined to learn from it and move forward.

FADE OUT.
