DAVE BRINGS AMBER HOME — DAVE’S MOM EXPLODES IN ANGER
A Dramatic Family Confrontation
INT. DAVE’S HOUSE — AFTERNOON
The front door slowly opens as Dave walks into the house with Amber beside him. Dave looks happy and confident, while Amber looks around the house with curiosity.
For Dave, bringing Amber home is more than just a casual visit. He believes she is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
“I’m glad you came with me. I want you to feel comfortable here.”
Amber smiles warmly. She can see that Dave is serious about their relationship.
“I appreciate everything you’re doing for me.”
Dave takes Amber’s hand and looks into her eyes.
“This is going to be our home one day. You’re going to be my wife.”
Amber is touched by his words. She smiles, imagining what their future could look like together.
DAVE’S MOM HEARS THE NEWS
Upstairs, Dave’s mother suddenly hears voices coming from downstairs. She immediately recognizes Dave’s voice.
Then she hears Amber laughing.
Her expression changes. She becomes suspicious and slowly walks toward the stairs.
Dave’s mother walks downstairs, already frustrated. When she sees Amber standing beside Dave, her anger becomes obvious.
THE CONFRONTATION BEGINS
Dave’s mother stops in front of them. She looks at Amber, then turns her attention toward her son.
“What is she doing here?”
Dave takes a deep breath. He knows this conversation is going to be difficult.
“Mom, please calm down.”
His mother refuses to calm down.
“Why did you bring Amber into the house?”
Dave looks directly at his mother. Instead of backing down, he decides to tell her exactly why Amber is there.
“Because Amber is going to be my wife. That’s why I brought her here.”
Dave’s mother freezes for a moment. She cannot believe what she has just heard.
AMBER TRIES TO STAY CALM
Amber realizes that the situation is becoming uncomfortable. She tries to explain herself respectfully.
“I never wanted to cause problems between you and Dave.”
Dave’s mother looks at her with suspicion.
“But you already have.”
Amber becomes quiet. She looks hurt by the accusation.
Dave immediately steps forward to defend her.
“Mom, don’t talk to her like that. She hasn’t done anything to you.”
DAVE STANDS UP FOR AMBER
Dave’s mother becomes even more frustrated because her son is defending Amber instead of agreeing with her.
“You’re defending her?”
“Yes, because I believe in her.”
Dave’s mother shakes her head. She believes Amber is making her son ignore the concerns of his own family.
“You don’t know what kind of girl she is.”
Amber remains silent, trying not to make the argument worse.
THE ARGUMENT GETS WORSE
Dave tells his mother that he is an adult and has the right to make decisions about his own life.
“I understand that you’re worried about me, but I’m not a child anymore. I have to make my own decisions.”
His mother becomes emotional. She believes she is trying to protect her son from making a serious mistake.
“I raised you to make good decisions. You are making a huge mistake!”
Dave remains firm.
“I don’t think I am.”
THE SLAP
Dave’s mother’s anger reaches its breaking point.
She suddenly slaps Dave.
The room falls completely silent.
Dave turns his face away in shock. Amber immediately reacts.
“Dave!”
Dave slowly looks back at his mother, unable to believe what just happened.
“Mom… why did you do that?”
His mother remains furious.
“Because you refuse to listen!”
DAVE DEFENDS HIS DECISION
Dave looks toward Amber and then back at his mother. He knows this is no longer just an argument about bringing someone home. It has become a battle over his future.
“I’m serious about Amber. I want to build a future with her.”
Dave’s mother points toward Amber.
“Amber is a greedy girl! Then why did you bring her into this house?”
Amber looks deeply hurt by the accusation.
“I never came here to take anything from anyone.”
Dave immediately responds.
“Mom, you have to stop judging her. I know what I’m doing.”
A FAMILY DIVIDED
Dave’s mother crosses her arms. She is still convinced that Amber is not the right person for her son.
“One day, you may realize that I was trying to protect you.”
Dave looks at his mother with sadness.
“And maybe one day, Mom, you’ll realize that I was trying to build my own life.”
A long silence follows.
Amber gently reaches for Dave’s hand.
“Dave, maybe we should leave.”
Dave shakes his head.
“No. I’m not going to run away because Mom is angry.”
THE FINAL MOMENT
Dave takes Amber’s hand and prepares to walk away.
His mother watches them closely. She is angry, but beneath her anger is fear. She worries that her son may be making a decision he will regret.
“You better be ready for the consequences of your decision.”
“I am.”
Dave and Amber walk toward the hallway together.
Dave’s mother remains standing in the living room, watching them disappear from view.
Her anger has not disappeared.
She looks toward the hallway with determination.
The camera slowly pulls back as the house becomes quiet.
Dave has chosen Amber.
His mother has chosen to fight the relationship.
And the conflict between Dave, Amber, and Dave’s mother is only beginning.
