Dave’s Secret Surprise for Amber
A Quiet Little Love Story

Dave’s Secret Surprise
for Amber

He remembers everything she tells him — even the dream she never thought he’d hold onto.

Scene 1

Dave’s House — Living Room

Late Afternoon

Warm sunlight spills through the windows. Amber sits comfortably on the couch, looking at Dave with curiosity. Dave stands near the doorway, hiding a small smile. Amber notices his unusual expression.

AMBER
Why are you smiling like that?
DAVE
Because I have something special planned for you.
AMBER
Something special?
DAVE
Yes. And I’m not telling you what it is.
AMBER
Dave, whenever you say that, I know you’re planning something crazy.
DAVE
Just trust me.
AMBER
Okay. But you better not disappoint me.
DAVE
I promise.

He reaches for his keys. Amber watches him carefully.

AMBER
Where are we going?
DAVE
You’ll find out when we get there.

Amber follows him, still completely unaware of what he has planned.

Scene 2

Dave’s Car

Evening

The car moves smoothly down a quiet road. Amber looks out the window as the city slowly disappears behind them. She turns toward Dave.

AMBER
You’re really not going to tell me?
DAVE
Nope.
AMBER
Not even a hint?
DAVE
Not one.

Amber crosses her arms playfully.

AMBER
You’re making me nervous.
DAVE
You’ll understand soon.
AMBER
Are we going to a restaurant?
DAVE
No.
AMBER
A party?
DAVE
No.
AMBER
Then what?
DAVE
Just wait.
AMBER
You’re impossible.

Dave laughs quietly. Inside, he feels excited. He has been keeping this secret for a long time. Tonight, he wants Amber to see something that means much more than she realizes.

Scene 3

Outside Amber’s Favorite House

Evening

Dave’s car slowly comes to a stop. Amber looks out the window. Her eyes immediately widen. Standing in front of them is a beautiful house — elegant, peaceful, and exactly the house Amber has always admired.

AMBER
Wait…
DAVE
Recognize it?
AMBER
Dave, this is… this is my favorite house.
DAVE
I know.
AMBER
Why did you bring me here?

Dave turns off the engine.

DAVE
Come on.

He gets out of the car. Amber follows him, still confused. They walk toward the property, admiring the front yard and the large windows. Memories come rushing back — every time she talked about this house.

AMBER
I can’t believe you remembered.
DAVE
I remember everything you tell me.
AMBER
But why are we here?

Dave looks at the house. For a moment, he says nothing.

Scene 4

Front of the House

Continuous

Amber walks closer to the front gate, admiring every detail of the architecture.

AMBER
I’ve always loved this place.
DAVE
I know.
AMBER
I used to imagine what it would be like to live here.
DAVE
And what did you imagine?
AMBER
A peaceful home. A beautiful kitchen. A big living room. Somewhere I could build memories with the person I love.

Dave’s expression becomes emotional. Amber notices.

AMBER
What?
DAVE
Nothing.
AMBER
You’re hiding something.
DAVE
Maybe.
AMBER
Dave!
DAVE
Just enjoy the moment.

Amber turns back toward the house. She has absolutely no idea how important this moment really is.

Scene 5

Dave’s Secret Plan

Evening

Dave watches Amber admire the property. His expression turns serious. He has already imagined this place as their future home. For weeks he has been working quietly behind the scenes. His plan is simple — he wants to buy the house, not for himself, but for Amber. He wants to give it to her when they get married, so their wedding day becomes the beginning of a new chapter, with this house waiting for them. But Amber knows nothing.

DAVE
Amber.
AMBER
Yes?

Dave takes a breath.

DAVE
Do you remember when you told me this was your dream house?
AMBER
Of course I remember.
DAVE
You told me that if you ever had the chance, you would love to make a home here.
AMBER
I did.
DAVE
I never forgot that.

Amber looks into his eyes. She can feel there is something deeper behind his words.

AMBER
Dave, why are you telling me this?
DAVE
Because sometimes dreams are closer than we think.

Amber becomes quiet.

Scene 6

Walking Around the Property

Sunset

Dave and Amber walk along the front of the property as the sun begins to set behind the trees. Amber continues admiring the house.

AMBER
I honestly can’t believe you brought me here.
DAVE
I wanted you to see it.
AMBER
Why?
DAVE
Because I wanted to see the look on your face.
AMBER
You really are full of surprises.
DAVE
This isn’t even the biggest surprise.

Amber stops walking.

AMBER
What does that mean?

Dave immediately realizes he has almost revealed too much.

DAVE
Nothing.
AMBER
Dave!
DAVE
You’ll have to wait.
AMBER
Now I’m definitely curious.
DAVE
One day, you’ll understand why I brought you here.
AMBER
One day?
DAVE
One day.
Scene 7

Outside the House

Night

The sky grows darker. The lights inside the house begin to glow. Amber stands beside Dave, looking at the property one last time.

AMBER
Thank you for bringing me here.
DAVE
You’re welcome.
AMBER
I still don’t understand why this was your surprise.

Dave opens the car door for her.

DAVE
You don’t have to understand everything tonight.

Amber gets into the car. Before Dave closes the door, she looks at him.

AMBER
You promise there’s nothing else?
DAVE
I promise there’s more.
AMBER
That doesn’t make me feel better.

Dave closes the door and walks around to the driver’s side.

Scene 8

Dave’s Car

Night

Dave starts the engine. Amber looks back at the house through the window and smiles softly.

AMBER
I really love that house.
DAVE
I know.
AMBER
Why do you keep saying that?
DAVE
Because I know you better than you think.

Amber laughs and turns back toward the window. Dave’s expression becomes thoughtful. He keeps his secret. He doesn’t tell Amber that he plans to make that beautiful house her wedding gift, or that he has already imagined their future there. For now, it remains his secret.

Scene 9

Dave’s Secret Dream

Night

The car disappears down the road. Dave looks at Amber and smiles. Amber remains completely unaware of his plan. In Dave’s mind, he can already picture the future — their wedding, their first night in their new home, their memories together. And Amber standing at the front door, realizing that the house she always dreamed about now belongs to her.

DAVE
One day, Amber.
AMBER
What did you say?
