Brooke Comes Home to a Heated Confrontation

BROOKE COMES HOME TO A HEATED CONFRONTATION

INT. LARRY’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – EVENING

The house is unusually quiet.

The last light of sunset stretches across the living room floor.

LARRY stands near the window, staring outside.

His phone rests on the table beside him.

He looks tense.

The front door suddenly opens.

BROOKE walks inside.

She closes the door harder than necessary.

Larry turns.

Brooke drops her bag onto the couch.

Her expression is angry.

Larry watches her carefully.

Neither speaks.

The silence between them quickly becomes uncomfortable.

LARRY

You’re home.

Brooke looks at him.

She doesn’t answer.

Instead, she walks toward the kitchen.

Larry turns back toward the window.

Brooke suddenly stops.

She turns around.

BROOKE

Actually, we need to talk.

Larry slowly turns.

LARRY

About what?

Brooke steps closer.

Her frustration is obvious.

BROOKE

You know exactly what this is about.

Larry remains calm.

LARRY

No, Brooke. I don’t.

Brooke pulls her phone from her pocket.

She holds it up.

BROOKE

You blocked my phone.

Larry says nothing.

BROOKE

And you blocked my ATM card!

Larry takes a slow breath.

LARRY

Yes.

Brooke stares at him.

She expected an explanation.

Instead, his answer makes her even angrier.

BROOKE

Yes?

She shakes her head.

BROOKE

That’s it?

Larry walks toward the couch.

LARRY

I did what I thought was necessary.

Brooke follows him.

BROOKE

Necessary?

She lets out a frustrated laugh.

BROOKE

You made that decision without even asking me!

Larry turns toward her.

LARRY

Brooke, lower your voice.

BROOKE

Why should I?

She points at her phone.

BROOKE

You blocked everything without talking to me first.

BROOKE

Who gave you the right to do that?

Larry’s expression becomes serious.

LARRY

I’m responsible for this household.

Brooke shakes her head.

BROOKE

That doesn’t mean you can control every part of my life.

Larry looks away.

LARRY

You weren’t making good decisions.

Brooke’s eyes narrow.

BROOKE

So you decided to punish me?

LARRY

I decided there needed to be consequences.

BROOKE

You could have talked to me!

LARRY

I tried.

BROOKE

No, you didn’t!

Brooke’s voice echoes through the room.

Larry’s jaw tightens.

BROOKE

You just made the decision and expected me to accept it!

BROOKE

You didn’t even ask me what happened.

LARRY

Because I’m tired of arguing with you.

BROOKE

Maybe because you never listen!

Larry’s frustration grows.

LARRY

Watch your attitude.

BROOKE

My attitude?

She shakes her head.

BROOKE

You’re the one who blocked my money and my phone without saying a word!

Larry takes another breath.

He is clearly struggling to remain calm.

LARRY

I told you to watch your tone.

BROOKE

And I’m telling you that you had no right to do this!

Larry’s face hardens.

LARRY

Brooke.

BROOKE

No!

She points toward him.

BROOKE

Every time I come home, you act like I’m a child.

BROOKE

You make decisions for me.

BROOKE

You tell me what I can and can’t do.

BROOKE

And now you’re controlling my money too!

Larry’s patience is almost gone.

LARRY

That’s enough.

BROOKE

You don’t own me!

Larry suddenly steps forward.

His voice becomes louder.

LARRY

I said enough!

Brooke stares at him.

BROOKE

Why?

A tense silence follows.

BROOKE

Because you know I’m right?

Larry’s breathing becomes heavier.

BROOKE

You can’t just treat me however you want.

In the heat of the confrontation, Larry loses control and slaps Brooke.

The sound cuts through the room.

Everything stops.

Brooke freezes.

Her hand slowly rises to her cheek.

Larry immediately realizes what he has done.

His anger disappears.

Regret replaces it.

Brooke looks at him in disbelief.

Neither speaks.

Larry takes a step backward.

LARRY

Brooke…

She stares at him.

Her eyes fill with tears.

BROOKE

You slapped me.

Larry lowers his head.

LARRY

I lost my temper.

BROOKE

That’s not an excuse.

Larry doesn’t answer.

Brooke takes a step away from him.

BROOKE

I came home expecting to have a conversation.

She wipes away a tear.

BROOKE

Instead, you hit me.

Larry looks devastated.

LARRY

I shouldn’t have done that.

BROOKE

No.

BROOKE

You shouldn’t have.

LARRY

I’m sorry.

Brooke looks at him.

Her anger has been replaced by hurt.

BROOKE

You keep telling me that you want me to respect you.

Larry remains silent.

BROOKE

But respect has to go both ways.

BROOKE

You could have explained why you blocked my ATM.

BROOKE

You could have explained why you blocked my phone.

BROOKE

You could have listened to me.

She takes another step backward.

BROOKE

Instead, you made me feel like I don’t have a voice in my own home.

Larry’s expression changes.

Her words clearly hurt him.

LARRY

That was never what I wanted.

BROOKE

But that’s what happened.

Larry sits down heavily on the couch.

He rubs his forehead.

LARRY

I was angry.

BROOKE

I know.

LARRY

I thought I was protecting you.

BROOKE

Protection doesn’t mean controlling someone.

BROOKE

And anger doesn’t give you permission to hurt someone.

Larry nods slowly.

LARRY

You’re right.

The room falls silent.

Brooke looks toward the door.

LARRY

Where are you going?

BROOKE

I need some space.

LARRY

Brooke, please.

BROOKE

I don’t want another argument.

LARRY

Neither do I.

Brooke looks at him for several seconds.

BROOKE

Then next time, talk to me.

LARRY

I will.

Brooke picks up her bag.

She walks toward the hallway.

Larry watches her leave.

LARRY

Brooke.

She stops.

LARRY

I’m sorry.

Brooke doesn’t turn around.

She stands there silently.

Then she continues walking.

Larry remains alone in the living room.

He looks at the phone on the table.

Then he looks toward the hallway.

The anger that filled the room moments ago is gone.

Only regret remains.

Larry slowly sits down.

He realizes that blocking Brooke’s phone and ATM was supposed to make a point.

But the argument became something far more serious.

Across the hallway, Brooke closes her bedroom door.

She leans against it.

Tears roll down her cheeks.

She looks at her phone.

The screen remains locked.

She wipes her face.

Her expression changes from anger to determination.

She knows the situation cannot continue like this.

Back in the living room, Larry stares at the floor.

His phone vibrates.

He doesn’t answer it.

For the first time, he seems to understand that being a parent—or being responsible for someone—doesn’t mean every disagreement can be solved through control.

The house becomes quiet again.

But this time, the silence feels different.

Something between Brooke and Larry has changed.

And neither of them knows what tomorrow will bring.

FADE OUT.
