SCENE 1 — INT. DAVE’S HOUSE — EVENING

The house is unusually quiet.

DAVE stands near the living room, looking uncomfortable as EVELYN approaches him. Her eyes are filled with emotion.

EVELYN
“I love you so much, Dave. I can’t leave you.”

Dave looks away, clearly caught between honesty and avoiding another argument.

DAVE
“Evelyn… I understand how you feel.”

Evelyn steps closer.

EVELYN
“No, you don’t. If you did, you’d know how hard this is for me.”

Dave sighs.

DAVE
“I love you too.”

Evelyn’s face immediately softens.

EVELYN
“You really mean that?”

Dave hesitates for a moment.

DAVE
“Yeah.”

Evelyn smiles, believing his words.

EVELYN
“Then please don’t push me away.”

Dave glances toward the hallway.

DAVE
“Come with me. We can talk in the bedroom.”

Evelyn nods.

They slowly walk down the hallway.

SCENE 2 — INT. DAVE’S HOUSE — HALLWAY

Dave suddenly stops.

He looks toward the front door.

No sign of AMBER.

Dave checks the house again.

DAVE
“Amber isn’t home.”

Evelyn looks at him.

EVELYN
“Are you sure?”

Dave nods.

DAVE
“Yeah. Come on.”

They continue toward the bedroom.

The door closes behind them.

SCENE 3 — INT. BEDROOM — MOMENTS LATER

Evelyn stands near the door while Dave keeps his distance.

The atmosphere is tense.

Evelyn looks hopeful, but Dave appears increasingly uncomfortable.

EVELYN
“I thought you were finally choosing me.”

Dave looks down.

DAVE
“I just wanted us to talk.”

EVELYN
“But you said you loved me.”

Dave doesn’t answer immediately.

Evelyn realizes something is wrong.

EVELYN
“Why are you acting like this?”

Dave takes a breath.

DAVE
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do anymore.”

Evelyn looks hurt.

EVELYN
“Then why did you tell me you loved me?”

Dave struggles to respond.

DAVE
“Because I didn’t want to hurt you.”

Evelyn shakes her head.

EVELYN
“You’ve already hurt me.”

The room falls silent.

🚪 THE FRONT DOOR OPENS.

Dave’s eyes widen.

SCENE 4 — INT. DAVE’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS

AMBER walks through the front door carrying her belongings.

She looks tired but relaxed.

AMBER
“Dave? I’m home!”

No answer.

Amber pauses.

She hears voices coming from the hallway.

Her expression changes.

AMBER
“Dave?”

Silence.

Amber slowly walks toward the bedroom.

SCENE 5 — INT. BEDROOM HALLWAY — CONTINUOUS

Amber stops outside the bedroom door.

She hears Evelyn’s voice.

Her face immediately becomes confused.

AMBER
“Evelyn?”

Inside, Dave freezes.

Evelyn looks toward the door.

EVELYN
“Oh no…”

Dave whispers.

DAVE
“Stay calm.”

Amber knocks.

AMBER
“Dave, open the door.”

Dave doesn’t move.

Amber knocks again, harder.

AMBER
“Dave!”

Dave finally opens the door.

Amber looks inside.

Her expression changes instantly when she sees Evelyn.

AMBER
“What is she doing here?”

Dave struggles to speak.

DAVE
“Amber, let me explain.”

Amber looks between them.

AMBER
“Explain what?”

Evelyn steps forward.

EVELYN
“Amber, please. It’s not what you think.”

Amber raises her hand, stopping her.

AMBER
“Don’t.”

The room becomes completely silent.

SCENE 6 — INT. BEDROOM — CONTINUOUS

Amber stares at Dave.

Her voice is calm, but the disappointment is obvious.

AMBER
“You told me you weren’t hiding anything from me.”

Dave looks down.

DAVE
“I know.”

AMBER
“Then why is Evelyn standing in our bedroom?”

Dave has no immediate answer.

Evelyn looks at him.

EVELYN
“Dave told me he loved me.”

Amber slowly turns toward Dave.

AMBER
“You told her that?”

Dave exhales.

DAVE
“I didn’t know what else to say.”

Amber shakes her head.

AMBER
“So you said whatever you needed to say to keep her quiet?”

Dave remains silent.

Evelyn looks devastated.

EVELYN
“You made me believe you actually cared about me.”

Dave looks at her.

DAVE
“I do care about you.”

Amber immediately responds.

AMBER
“Then what exactly are you doing?”

Dave looks trapped between the two women.

SCENE 7 — INT. LIVING ROOM — MINUTES LATER

Amber walks away from the bedroom.

Dave follows.

DAVE
“Amber, please. Just give me a chance to explain.”

Amber turns around.

AMBER
“I’ve heard enough.”

DAVE
“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”

AMBER
“That’s the problem, Dave. You were trying to keep it hidden.”

Dave lowers his head.

DAVE
“I made a mistake.”

Amber looks at him with disappointment.

AMBER
“A mistake is forgetting something. This was a choice.”

Dave has nothing to say.

Evelyn appears in the hallway, quietly watching.

EVELYN
“Amber…”

Amber looks toward her.

AMBER
“I don’t know what Dave promised you, but you need to hear the truth too.”

Evelyn waits.

AMBER
“You deserve honesty. So do I.”

Evelyn looks at Dave.

EVELYN
“Was any of it real?”

Dave struggles to answer.

His silence is enough.

Evelyn looks away, hurt.

SCENE 8 — INT. LIVING ROOM — LATER

Amber stands near the door.

Dave remains several feet away.

The tension is unbearable.

DAVE
“Amber, I never wanted to hurt you.”

Amber looks at him.

AMBER
“Then you should have thought about that before you lied.”

She opens the door.

Dave takes a step forward.

DAVE
“Where are you going?”

Amber pauses.

AMBER
“Somewhere I can think.”

She walks out.

The door closes.

Dave stands motionless.

Evelyn remains behind him, realizing that the promises she believed may have been nothing more than words.

Dave looks toward the closed door.

For the first time, he understands that his secret has changed everything.
