WHEN AMBER ASKS DAVE IF HE TOLD HIS SISTER ABOUT WAYNE
SCENE 1 — INT. DAVE’S LIVING ROOM — LATE AFTERNOON
The room is quiet.
Amber sits on the edge of the couch, visibly worried. Dave stands near the window, looking outside and avoiding eye contact.
Amber has been thinking about everything that happened with Wayne.
She finally decides to ask Dave directly.
AMBER
Dave, did you tell your sister about Wayne?
Dave slowly turns around.
He looks at Amber for a moment before answering.
DAVE
Yes. I told my sister everything clearly.
Amber studies his face. She still looks uncertain.
AMBER
Everything?
DAVE
Everything I knew. I didn’t hide anything from her.
AMBER
Then what did she say?
Dave pauses. His expression becomes serious.
DAVE
She said she wanted to meet you herself.
AMBER
She wants to meet me?
DAVE
Yes.
Amber stands up. She adjusts her clothes and looks toward the door.
AMBER
Okay. Then let’s go.
Dave nods quietly.
Neither of them knows how tense the meeting is about to become.
SCENE 2 — EXT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — EARLY EVENING
Dave’s car pulls up outside the house.
Amber looks through the window. She notices the house is quiet.
Dave turns off the engine.
For a moment, neither of them moves.
AMBER
Are you sure this is a good idea?
DAVE
I think it’s better that everyone talks face-to-face.
AMBER
I just don’t want this to turn into another argument.
DAVE
I’ll be there.
Dave gets out of the car. Amber follows.
They walk toward the front door.
Dave knocks.
A few seconds later, the door opens.
Dave’s sister stands there. She looks at Dave first, then at Amber.
Her expression immediately becomes cold.
DAVE’S SISTER
So this is Amber.
DAVE
Yes. Amber, this is my sister.
AMBER
It’s nice to finally meet you.
Dave’s sister doesn’t smile back. She steps aside.
DAVE’S SISTER
Come inside.
Amber and Dave enter.
SCENE 3 — INT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS
The atmosphere is uncomfortable.
Dave’s sister closes the door behind them.
Amber looks around. Dave stands beside her.
His sister crosses her arms.
DAVE’S SISTER
Dave told me everything.
AMBER
Everything about what?
DAVE’S SISTER
About Wayne.
Amber’s expression changes. She looks at Dave.
AMBER
You really told her everything?
DAVE
I told you I did.
DAVE’S SISTER
I don’t understand why you keep bringing all this drama into Dave’s life.
AMBER
I didn’t come here to cause drama.
DAVE’S SISTER
That’s not what I’m hearing.
Amber looks at Dave. She expects him to defend her.
Dave remains quiet.
AMBER
Dave?
DAVE
Let’s just calm down.
DAVE’S SISTER
No. Somebody needs to be honest.
DAVE’S SISTER
You can’t stay with Dave anymore after today.
The room falls silent.
Amber stares at her. She can barely process what she just heard.
SCENE 4 — INT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — MOMENTS LATER
AMBER
What?
DAVE’S SISTER
You heard me.
Amber looks toward Dave.
AMBER
Why is she saying this?
Dave doesn’t answer.
AMBER
Dave, say something.
Dave looks down. His silence makes Amber even more upset.
AMBER
I came here because you told me your sister wanted to talk.
AMBER
I didn’t know I was coming here to be judged.
DAVE’S SISTER
I’m not judging you.
AMBER
It feels like you are.
DAVE’S SISTER
I’m protecting my brother.
AMBER
Protecting him from me?
DAVE’S SISTER
I’m telling you that things have gone too far.
Amber looks at Dave again.
AMBER
Did you tell her the whole story?
DAVE
Yes.
AMBER
Then why does she look at me like I’m the only problem?
Dave has no answer. He remains silent.
SCENE 5 — INT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS
Amber wipes away a tear. She tries to remain composed.
AMBER
I thought you trusted me, Dave.
DAVE
I do.
AMBER
Then why did you bring me here?
Dave opens his mouth. Nothing comes out.
DAVE’S SISTER
Amber, I don’t want another argument.
AMBER
Neither do I.
AMBER
But I deserve to know why I’m suddenly being told I can’t stay with Dave.
DAVE’S SISTER
Because he needs peace.
AMBER
And you think I’m the reason he doesn’t have it?
Dave’s sister doesn’t answer immediately.
Then she nods.
Amber looks heartbroken. Dave remains between them, caught in the middle.
SCENE 6 — INT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — EVENING
The tension becomes unbearable.
Amber turns toward Dave. Her voice becomes quieter.
AMBER
Did you bring me to your sister’s house just to embarrass me?
Dave freezes. His sister looks at him.
Amber waits for an answer.
Seconds pass. Dave remains completely silent.
AMBER
Dave?
Nothing.
AMBER
You told me you wanted us to come here and talk.
AMBER
But you knew what she was going to say.
Dave looks away.
AMBER
You knew.
DAVE
I knew she was upset.
AMBER
But you didn’t tell me.
DAVE
I didn’t know how to tell you.
AMBER
You could have just been honest with me.
Dave has no response.
SCENE 7 — EXT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — NIGHT
Amber walks outside. She stands near the sidewalk, trying to collect herself.
Dave follows her outside and stops a few feet away.
DAVE
Amber…
AMBER
Don’t.
Dave stops.
AMBER
I came here believing you wanted to support me.
AMBER
Instead, I walked into a situation I wasn’t prepared for.
DAVE
I’m sorry.
AMBER
Sorry doesn’t explain why you stayed silent.
DAVE
I didn’t want things to get worse.
AMBER
They got worse because you didn’t say anything.
Dave looks down.
AMBER
I needed you to stand beside me.
Dave doesn’t know what to say.
SCENE 8 — EXT. DAVE’S SISTER’S HOUSE — CONTINUOUS
Dave’s sister watches them from the doorway.
Amber looks at Dave one final time.
AMBER
I don’t know what happens after today.
Dave remains silent.
AMBER
But I know I didn’t deserve to be surprised like this.
She turns away.
DAVE
Amber…
She stops but doesn’t turn around.
DAVE
I never wanted to embarrass you.
Amber slowly turns.
AMBER
Then why didn’t you protect me from this?
Dave has no answer.
Amber gets into the car. The door closes.
Dave stands outside, watching as Amber drives away.
His sister remains at the doorway.
Dave looks back at her.
For the first time, he realizes that his decision to tell his sister everything has created an even bigger problem.
The car disappears down the street.
Dave stand
