When Charity Brings Evelyn and Dave’s Truth to Amber
The atmosphere had already changed.
What started as a simple conversation between Charity and Amber was slowly turning into something much more serious.
Amber sat quietly, watching Charity’s expression. There was something different about the way Charity was speaking now.
She wasn’t joking, and she wasn’t trying to make small talk.
She looked like someone who had finally decided that a secret had been kept for too long.
Dave, standing nearby, noticed the change immediately.
His smile disappeared.
He knew that look.
Charity had something to say.
And deep down, Dave already knew exactly what it was about.
Evelyn.
For days, Dave had been trying to keep that chapter of his life away from Amber.
Whatever happened between him and Evelyn, Dave never wanted Amber to know the full story.
He knew that if Amber discovered everything, the trust between them could completely collapse.
Charity, however, seemed determined to change that.
Charity: “Amber, there’s something I think you deserve to know.”
Amber raised an eyebrow.
Amber: “About what?”
Charity hesitated for a moment.
Dave immediately stepped forward.
Dave: “Charity, not here.”
Amber looked from Dave to Charity.
Amber: “Why not here?”
Dave forced a nervous smile.
Dave: “It’s nothing. She’s making something bigger than it really is.”
Charity shook her head.
Charity: “No, Dave. I’m not making anything up.”
The room suddenly became quiet.
Amber could feel the tension.
She slowly turned toward Dave.
Amber: “Okay… now I definitely want to know what this is about.”
Dave’s expression became serious.
Dave: “Amber, trust me. You don’t need to get involved in this.”
Amber stared at him.
Amber: “That’s exactly what somebody says when there’s something they don’t want you to know.”
Charity nodded slightly.
Charity: “That’s what I’m trying to tell you.”
Dave looked frustrated.
Dave: “Charity, you’re crossing a line.”
Charity: “No. The line was crossed when you decided to keep Amber in the dark.”
Amber’s eyes widened.
Amber: “Keep me in the dark about what?”
Dave remained silent.
That silence said more than any explanation could.
Amber slowly stood up.
Amber: “Dave?”
He finally looked at her.
Dave: “Amber, there are things from my past that I don’t want to discuss.”
Amber shook her head.
Amber: “Your past is one thing. But if your past involves something that can affect our relationship, then I have every right to know.”
Charity took a breath.
Charity: “This is about Evelyn.”
The moment she said Evelyn’s name, Dave’s entire expression changed.
Amber noticed it immediately.
Amber: “Evelyn?”
Dave quickly interrupted.
Dave: “Charity, stop.”
But Charity continued.
Charity: “Amber, Dave has been acting like there was nothing important between him and Evelyn. But that’s not the whole story.”
Amber looked at Dave.
Amber: “Is that true?”
Dave: “It’s complicated.”
Amber gave a short, disappointed laugh.
Amber: “Complicated?”
She looked at Charity.
Amber: “What exactly happened between them?”
Charity hesitated.
Charity: “I don’t want to create problems between you two, but I also don’t want you finding out later from somebody else.”
Dave: “You’re already creating problems.”
Charity: “No, Dave. Your secrets are creating the problems.”
That sentence hit hard.
Amber stood completely still.
She had trusted Dave.
She had defended him.
She had believed that whatever people were saying about him was exaggerated.
But now she was beginning to wonder if there was something she had been missing.
Amber: “Dave, did you lie to me about Evelyn?”
Dave: “I didn’t lie.”
Amber: “Then tell me the truth.”
Dave opened his mouth but couldn’t answer.
Charity: “See? That’s the problem.”
Dave finally turned toward Charity.
Dave: “You don’t understand what happened.”
Charity: “Then explain it.”
Dave: “I don’t owe you an explanation.”
Charity: “No. But you owe Amber one.”
Amber’s face became more serious.
Amber: “Was Evelyn just somebody you knew, or was there more?”
Dave remained silent again.
Amber: “That silence is an answer.”
Dave: “Amber, listen to me. Whatever happened with Evelyn happened before you.”
Amber: “That doesn’t automatically make it okay.”
Dave: “I never said it was okay.”
Amber: “Then why hide it?”
Dave had no immediate answer.
Charity watched the two of them carefully.
She knew this conversation could change everything.
Charity: “Amber, there’s more.”
Dave: “Charity!”
Amber turned toward her.
Amber: “More?”
Charity: “I didn’t want to say this in front of everyone, but I think you need to hear it directly.”
Dave stepped closer.
Dave: “You’re not going to do this.”
Amber immediately noticed his reaction.
Amber: “Why are you so scared of her talking?”
Dave: “I’m not scared.”
Amber: “Then let her speak.”
Dave went quiet.
Charity: “There were things going on between Dave and Evelyn that he never wanted you to question. And recently, people have started talking about it again.”
Amber: “What kind of things?”
Charity looked at Dave.
Charity: “That’s the part he doesn’t want you to hear.”
Amber: “Dave, did you have feelings for Evelyn while you were dealing with me?”
Dave looked down.
Dave: “Amber…”
Amber: “Just answer the question.”
Dave: “I cared about her.”
Amber’s face fell.
Amber: “Cared about her?”
Dave: “But it wasn’t what you think.”
Amber: “That’s always the sentence people use right before they tell you something you definitely don’t want to hear.”
Charity remained quiet.
Dave: “Listen to me. Whatever happened with Evelyn, it doesn’t change how I feel about you.”
Amber: “But it changes how I see you.”
Those words left Dave speechless.
The tension between them was now impossible to ignore.
Amber: “I can forgive mistakes. I can forgive things that happened before me. But I cannot forgive being made to feel stupid.”
Dave: “I never wanted to hurt you.”
Amber: “Then why hide the truth?”
Dave: “Because I knew you would react exactly like this!”
Amber stared at him.
Amber: “So you lied because you were afraid of my reaction?”
Dave realized he had made things worse.
Charity: “And that’s why Amber needed to know.”
Dave turned toward Charity.
Dave: “You’re happy now?”
Charity: “No. I’m not happy. I just believe Amber deserves the truth.”
Amber looked between them.
For the first time, she understood why Charity had brought up Evelyn.
This wasn’t simply gossip.
Charity believed Dave had been hiding something important.
And now Amber wasn’t sure how much of Dave’s story she could trust.
She took a step back.
Amber: “I need some space.”
Dave: “Amber, please.”
She raised her hand.
Amber: “Not right now.”
Dave: “Can we talk about this privately?”
Amber: “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
Charity: “I’m sorry you had to hear it this way.”
Amber: “No. I’m glad I heard it.”
Then she looked directly at Dave.
Amber: “What I need now is the complete truth.”
Dave: “What do you want to know?”
Amber: “Everything.”
The word hung in the air.
Dave knew this was the moment he had been trying to avoid.
If Amber started asking questions about Evelyn, there was no guarantee that the truth would stop with just one secret.
There could be messages.
There could be conversations.
There could be things Charity knew that Dave desperately hoped she would never reveal.
Amber: “You have one chance, Dave. Don’t give me another version of the story. Give me the truth.”
Dave lowered his eyes.
Charity stayed silent.
And Amber waited.
Dave: “Okay…”
He took a deep breath.
Dave: “But once I tell you everything, there’s no going back.”
Amber: “Maybe there shouldn’t be.”
Dave looked at Charity.
For the first time, Charity could see real fear in his eyes.
Because the truth about Evelyn wasn’t just going to create an argument.
It could destroy the trust Amber had built with him.
And if Amber discovered that Dave had hidden even more than Charity had revealed,
their relationship might never be the same again.
Amber waited for his answer.
Dave slowly opened his mouth.
