Bethany Confronts Shera Over Larry’s Rent

Bethany Confronts Shera Over Larry’s Rent

Scene 1 — Bethany’s House — Evening

Bethany sits alone scrolling her phone when a message changes everything: Larry has paid the rent for Shera’s house.

BETHANY: Larry paid Shera’s rent? After everything that happened between them… how could he do this?

She grabs her purse and heads out the door, determined to get answers.

Scene 2 — Shera’s House — Evening

Bethany arrives and knocks. Shera opens the door, visibly cold.

SHERA: What are you doing here?

BETHANY: I came to talk to you. About Larry.

SHERA: I don’t think we have anything to talk about.

BETHANY: Who gave you the right to take rent money from Larry?

SHERA: That’s what this is about?

BETHANY: Yes. That’s exactly what this is about.

Scene 3 — The Confrontation

Shera reluctantly lets Bethany inside.

BETHANY: You and Larry are divorced. So why are you still taking money from my husband?

SHERA: You don’t get to come into my house and interrogate me.

BETHANY: You knew exactly what you were doing when you accepted that money.

SHERA: Larry offered to pay it — because he wanted to help me!

BETHANY: He is my husband. And you cannot keep coming back into his life whenever you need something.

SHERA: You don’t know anything about my life.

Bethany delivers a line that pushes Shera over the edge:

BETHANY: Your only job seems to be getting involved with every man and taking money from them.

SHERA: Take that back!

BETHANY: No.

Scene 4 — The Fight

Shera loses her temper and lunges at Bethany. The argument turns physical — a chair crashes to the floor.

BETHANY: Get off me!

SHERA: You came into my house and insulted me!

BETHANY: You deserved to hear it!

SHERA: You have no idea what happened between Larry and me!

BETHANY: I know enough to know that you need to stay away from my husband!

BETHANY: Then why did he pay your rent?

Shera’s silence only makes Bethany more suspicious.

SHERA: He helped me because he wanted to.

BETHANY: And that’s exactly the problem.

Scene 5 — Aftermath

The room lies in disarray. Both women stand breathless, neither willing to back down.

BETHANY: This isn’t over.

SHERA: Get out of my house.

BETHANY: Stay away from Larry.

SHERA: You should tell that to Larry, not me.

Bethany says nothing. She walks out and closes the door behind her. Outside, she pauses, looking back at the house — certain there is more to Larry paying Shera’s rent than she yet understands. The conflict between the two women has only just begun.

FADE OUT.
