Scene 2: Brooke Makes a Different Decision

The next morning, Brooke stands in her bedroom, surrounded by clothes and suitcases. She carefully folds her clothes and places them inside her suitcase.

Her phone rings. It is Larry.

Larry: Brooke, have you finished packing? You should make sure everything is ready before you leave.

Brooke: Almost. I just have a few things left to pack.

Larry: Good. Let me know when you’re ready to leave. I want to make sure you have everything you need.

Brooke: Okay, Larry. I’ll let you know.

She ends the call and sits on the edge of her bed. For a moment, she stares at the suitcase. Then she opens her phone and looks at a picture of Isaiah. A small smile appears on her face.

Brooke: I know what I really want to do.

She closes the suitcase and places it near the door. But instead of preparing to leave for Chicago, she opens her laptop and searches for a trip to Philadelphia. Her expression becomes hopeful.

Brooke: I’m going to see Isaiah. Maybe we can finally spend some time together without all the problems between us.

She books her trip. Brooke takes one last look around her bedroom before picking up her suitcase. She knows Larry expects her to go to Chicago. But she has already made up her mind. She is going to Philadelphia.

Scene 3: Brooke Arrives in Philadelphia

Later that afternoon, Brooke arrives in Philadelphia. She steps out of the car, holding her suitcase in one hand and her phone in the other. The city feels unfamiliar, but her excitement grows as she approaches Isaiah’s house.

She checks her phone. There are no new messages from him.

Brooke: (softly) Isaiah has no idea I’m here. He’s going to be so surprised.

She walks toward the front door. Before knocking, she takes a moment to fix her hair and straighten her clothes. She wants the moment to be special.

Brooke knocks on the door. There is no immediate response. She waits a few seconds and knocks again. Finally, she hears someone moving inside. Brooke smiles.

Brooke: Isaiah, open the door!

She hears footsteps approaching. The door begins to open. But as soon as Brooke looks inside, her smile disappears. Her eyes widen. She freezes in the doorway.

Scene 4: The Shocking Dinner

Inside the dining room, Isaiah is sitting at a beautifully arranged dinner table. Across from him sits Mariah. Two plates of food are on the table, and the room is filled with the warm glow of the evening lights. Mariah is smiling as Isaiah talks to her. Neither of them expected Brooke to arrive.

Isaiah turns toward the door. His smile disappears the moment he sees her.

Isaiah: Brooke?

Brooke looks from Isaiah to Mariah. Her expression changes from confusion to disbelief.

Brooke: What is this?

Mariah: Brooke? What are you doing here?

Brooke: I should be asking you both that question.

Isaiah: Brooke, wait. Let me explain.

Brooke: Explain what, Isaiah? I came all the way to Philadelphia to see you, and I find you having dinner with Mariah!

Isaiah: I didn’t know you were coming. This is a surprise.

Brooke: Yes, it is a surprise. And not the kind I was hoping for.

Brooke: So, Mariah, what exactly is going on here?

Mariah: Brooke, we were just having dinner.

Brooke: Just dinner? You couldn’t even tell me you were spending time with her?

Isaiah: Please, just sit down. We can talk about this.

Brooke: Don’t tell me to sit down. I want answers.

Scene 5: Brooke Demands the Truth

Isaiah: Brooke, I understand why you’re upset, but you’re making assumptions.

Brooke: Then tell me the truth!

Isaiah: Because I don’t want this to turn into another argument.

Brooke: Then don’t give me a reason to argue!

Mariah: Brooke, you can’t just come into Isaiah’s house and start accusing us of something.

Brooke: I didn’t come here to fight with you, Mariah. I came here to see Isaiah.

Mariah: And you found us having dinner. That’s all.

Brooke: Then why does this look like a special dinner?

Isaiah: Brooke, Mariah and I have been talking about some things. That’s why she’s here.

Brooke: What things?

Isaiah: We were talking about our future.

Brooke: Your future?

Mariah: Isaiah, maybe you should tell her everything.

Brooke: Everything about what?

No one answers. The silence becomes unbearable.

Scene 6: Brooke’s Emotional Confrontation

Isaiah: Brooke, I never wanted to hurt you.

Brooke: Then why does it feel like you did?

Brooke: Larry told me to go to Chicago. He even offered to pay my expenses for three months.

Isaiah: Larry offered to pay for you to go to Chicago?

Brooke: Yes. And I was preparing to leave. But I changed my mind because I wanted to see you. I thought we could spend some time together. I thought maybe things would be different between us. I didn’t expect to walk into your house and find Mariah having dinner with you.

Mariah: Brooke, I didn’t know you were coming.

Brooke: I know you didn’t. But now that I’m here, I want to know what’s happening.

Isaiah: I care about you, Brooke. But I also have things I need to figure out.

Brooke: What does that mean?

Isaiah: It means I don’t want to make promises until I’m sure about what I want.

Brooke: So you invited Mariah here while I’m still trying to understand where I stand with you?

Isaiah: I didn’t invite her to hurt you.

Brooke: But you knew I cared about you.

Isaiah: Yes, I knew.

A long silence follows.

Scene 7: Mariah Reveals Her Feelings

Mariah: I think I should leave you two alone.

Brooke: No. Don’t leave yet. I want to hear what you have to say, too.

Mariah: Brooke, I care about Isaiah. And I thought we were making progress.

Brooke: Making progress?

Mariah: We’ve been talking, and I thought there might be a chance for us to work things out.

Brooke: Is that true?

Isaiah: Mariah and I have been discussing our relationship.

Brooke looks away, trying to process his words. She had traveled all the way to Philadelphia, believing she might have a chance to reconnect with Isaiah. Now she feels as though she has walked into the middle of a completely different story.

Brooke: I can’t believe this.

Mariah: I’m going to give you two some time.

She begins walking toward the door. Before leaving, she turns back.

Mariah: Isaiah, we’ll talk later.

Isaiah: Okay.

Mariah walks out. The door closes behind her. Brooke and Isaiah are finally alone.

Scene 8: Isaiah Faces Brooke

The house becomes quiet. Brooke stands near the window, looking outside.

Isaiah: Brooke, please don’t leave like this.

Brooke: Why shouldn’t I?

Isaiah: Because I want to talk to you.

Brooke: Then talk to me, Isaiah. Tell me what you really want.

Isaiah: I don’t want to lose you.

Brooke: Then why do I feel like I’m losing you?

Brooke: I came here because I wanted to spend time with you. But I can’t stay here pretending everything is fine.

Isaiah: Can we please talk about this tomorrow?

Brooke: I don’t know, Isaiah. I really don’t know.

Isaiah: Brooke, wait!

Isaiah: Please don’t make a decision while you’re angry.

Brooke: Then give me a reason to stay.

Isaiah stands silently. Brooke looks at him one last time before opening the door. The evening air fills the room. She steps outside, leaving Isaiah standing alone.

Scene 9: A Decision That Changes Everything

Brooke walks down the front steps, pulling her suitcase behind her. Her phone begins ringing. It is Larry.

Brooke: Hello?

Larry: Brooke, are you in Chicago yet?

Brooke: No, Larry. I’m not in Chicago.

Larry: Then where are you?

Brooke: I’m in Philadelphia.

Larry: Philadelphia? What are you doing there?

Brooke: I came to see Isaiah.

Larry: Brooke, we need to talk.

She looks back at the house one more time. Inside, Isaiah stands near the window, watching her leave.

Brooke: I know, Larry. But right now, I have to figure out what I’m going to do.

She ends the call. The camera slowly moves away from Brooke as she stands alone on the sidewalk. Inside the house, Isaiah turns away from the window. Mariah’s empty chair remains at the dinner table.

Three people. Three different expectations. And one evening that has changed everything.
