BROOKE’S TRIP TO PULLEY — BETHANY AND SHARRA CLASH

A Family Argument Turns Into a Major Confrontation

SCENE 1 — BROOKE TELLS LARRY ABOUT HER PLAN

The weekend is approaching, and Brooke walks into the living room while Larry is sitting on the couch checking his phone. Brooke looks excited because she has been thinking about visiting Pulley to see Isaiah.

BROOKE
“Dad, I want to go to Pulley this weekend. I really want to see Isaiah.”

Larry looks up from his phone. He can immediately tell that Brooke is serious about the trip.

LARRY
“Pulley? This weekend?”

BROOKE
“Yes. I want to spend some time with Isaiah. I was thinking I could go by myself.”

Larry quickly shakes his head.

LARRY
“Brooke, you can’t go alone. If you’re going to Pulley, somebody has to go with you.”

Brooke looks disappointed.

BROOKE
“But Dad, I’m old enough to go. I just want to see Isaiah.”

LARRY
“I understand. I’m not saying you can’t go. I’m saying you’re not going by yourself. I’ll figure out who can go with you.”

Brooke finally nods.

BROOKE
“Okay. I just really wanted to see him.”

Larry smiles reassuringly.

LARRY
“You’ll see him. I promise.”

SCENE 2 — LARRY TALKS TO SHARRA

Later that evening, Larry decides to talk to Sharra. He does not want Brooke traveling alone, and he wants someone he trusts to accompany her.

When Sharra arrives, she notices that Larry seems serious.

SHARRA
“What’s going on? You sounded serious when you called me.”

Larry takes a deep breath before explaining everything.

LARRY
“Brooke wants to go to Pulley this weekend to see Isaiah.”

SHARRA
“Okay. So what’s the problem?”

LARRY
“She wanted to go alone, and I told her she couldn’t.”

Sharra nods.

SHARRA
“That makes sense. You don’t want her traveling by herself.”

Larry becomes more serious.

LARRY
“Exactly. And honestly, I don’t feel comfortable leaving Brooke with just anybody right now.”

Sharra looks at him carefully.

SHARRA
“What are you saying?”

Larry explains that there has been too much tension between him and Bethany recently. Because of their ongoing disagreements, Larry does not feel comfortable relying on Bethany to handle Brooke’s trip.

LARRY
“I don’t want another argument while Brooke is away. I just want her to have someone with her who can make sure everything goes smoothly.”

Sharra listens quietly.

LARRY
“That’s why I want you to take Brooke to Pulley.”

Sharra looks surprised.

SHARRA
“Me?”

LARRY
“Yes. I trust you with her. I know you’ll make sure she gets there safely and comes back safely.”

After thinking for a moment, Sharra agrees.

SHARRA
“If Brooke wants me to go with her, I’ll take her.”

Larry nods with relief.

LARRY
“Thank you. That’s all I’m asking.”

SCENE 3 — BROOKE GETS READY FOR PULLEY

Saturday morning arrives. Brooke is excited and starts packing her things. She keeps checking her phone because she is looking forward to seeing Isaiah.

Sharra walks into the room.

SHARRA
“Are you ready?”

BROOKE
“Almost. I’m really excited to see Isaiah.”

Sharra picks up one of Brooke’s bags.

SHARRA
“Your dad asked me to go with you. We’ll make sure everything goes smoothly.”

Brooke smiles.

BROOKE
“I’m glad you’re coming.”

The two of them walk toward the front door. They are almost ready to leave when Bethany suddenly appears in the hallway.

Bethany notices Brooke’s bag and immediately becomes suspicious.

BETHANY
“Wait. Where are you two going?”

Brooke turns around.

BROOKE
“I’m going to Pulley.”

Bethany looks shocked.

BETHANY
“Pulley? Why didn’t anybody tell me?”

She looks directly at Sharra.

BETHANY
“And you’re taking her?”

SHARRA
“Yes. Larry asked me to go with her.”

Bethany’s expression immediately changes.

BETHANY
“Nobody thought I should know about this?”

SCENE 4 — BETHANY AND SHARRA CLASH

The atmosphere in the hallway becomes tense. Bethany refuses to let Brooke leave without saying something.

BETHANY
“I’m going with you.”

Sharra looks surprised.

SHARRA
“You’re going with us?”

BETHANY
“Yes. Brooke is my daughter. I’m not going to sit at home while she travels somewhere without me.”

Sharra remains firm.

SHARRA
“Bethany, you don’t need to turn this into an argument.”

BETHANY
“I’m not trying to argue. I’m asking why my daughter is leaving with you without anyone telling me.”

Sharra takes a breath.

SHARRA
“Larry asked me to take Brooke.”

Bethany looks toward Brooke.

BETHANY
“Larry asked you?”

SHARRA
“Yes.”

Bethany becomes increasingly frustrated.

BETHANY
“So Larry made this decision without talking to me?”

SHARRA
“He asked me because he wanted Brooke to have someone with her.”

Bethany points toward Brooke.

BETHANY
“She’s my daughter!”

Sharra responds firmly.

SHARRA
“You’re Brooke’s mother, but I’m the one Larry asked to go with her. I’m responsible for this trip.”

Brooke looks uncomfortable as the argument continues.

BROOKE
“Can you both please stop? I don’t want my trip to turn into a fight.”

SCENE 5 — BETHANY REVEALS HER PLAN FOR BROOKE

Bethany looks at Brooke and takes a deep breath. She wants Brooke to understand why she is so upset.

BETHANY
“Brooke, I’m doing something important for you.”

Brooke looks confused.

BROOKE
“What?”

BETHANY
“I’m opening a new office for you.”

Brooke’s eyes widen.

BROOKE
“You’re opening an office for me?”

BETHANY
“Yes. I’ve been working on it because I want you to have something of your own. I’m trying to build a future for you.”

Sharra listens without interrupting.

Bethany turns toward her.

BETHANY
“And while I’m trying to do all of this for Brooke, you’re taking her to Pulley?”

SHARRA
“The office has nothing to do with this trip.”

BETHANY
“It has everything to do with it. I’m making plans for Brooke, and nobody is even including me in decisions about her.”

Brooke looks between the two women.

BROOKE
“Mom, I appreciate what you’re doing. But I just want to see Isaiah.”

Bethany becomes quieter.

BETHANY
“I understand. But you can’t just leave without talking to me.”

Sharra responds calmly.

SHARRA
“Then talk to Larry. He’s the one who asked me to take her.”

SCENE 6 — BETHANY CALLS LARRY

Bethany pulls out her phone. She wants an explanation directly from Larry.

BETHANY
“I’m calling Larry.”

She dials his number. After a few moments, Larry answers.

LARRY
“Hey, Bethany.”

BETHANY
“Did you ask Sharra to take Brooke to Pulley?”

There is a brief pause.

LARRY
“Yes.”

Bethany looks toward Sharra.

BETHANY
“And why didn’t you tell me?”

Larry answers carefully.

LARRY
“Because Brooke wanted to go, and I didn’t want her going alone.”

Bethany’s voice becomes emotional.

BETHANY
“I’m her mother, Larry. You could have talked to me.”

Larry takes a breath.

LARRY
“I know. But I made the decision because I wanted Brooke to have someone with her.”

Bethany looks hurt.

BETHANY
“So you don’t trust me?”

Larry becomes silent for a moment.

LARRY
“I just didn’t want another argument.”

Bethany looks toward Sharra and Brooke.

BETHANY
“This isn’t over.”

She ends the call.

SCENE 7 — BROOKE LEAVES FOR PULLEY

Brooke looks at both women. She does not want the disagreement between Bethany and Sharra to ruin her plans.

BROOKE
“I don’t want my trip to turn into a fight.”

Sharra puts a reassuring hand on Brooke’s shoulder.

SHARRA
“It won’t. We’re going to Pulley, we’ll see Isaiah, and then we’ll come back.”

Bethany looks at Brooke and takes a deep breath.

BETHANY
“Just promise me you’ll keep your phone on.”

BROOKE
“I promise.”

Bethany looks at Sharra.

BETHANY
“And you’re bringing her back?”

SHARRA
“Of course.”

For a moment, the house becomes quiet.

Brooke picks up her bag, and Sharra opens the front door. Brooke takes one final look at Bethany before walking outside.

Bethany stays at the doorway, watching Brooke and Sharra leave together.

THE CONFLICT IS FAR FROM OVER

Bethany is still upset that Larry trusted Sharra with Brooke’s trip, while Sharra believes she is simply following Larry’s request. Brooke only wants to spend time with Isaiah, but her weekend trip has now created a much bigger family conflict.

What will happen when Brooke returns from Pulley?
