WHEN AMBER DISCOVERS WAYNE’S PLAN
SCENE 1 — DAVE’S OFFICE — AFTERNOON
The office is busy. Dave sits at his desk, looking through paperwork while his new assistant organizes documents nearby.
Dave smiles, clearly pleased with how smoothly everything is going.
The door opens. Amber walks in and immediately notices the new assistant. Her smile disappears.
AMBER
Dave… who is this?
Dave looks up casually.
DAVE
This is my new assistant. Wayne helped me find her.
Amber pauses. Her expression changes instantly.
AMBER
Wayne helped you?
DAVE
Yeah. I needed somebody to help me keep everything organized. Wayne recommended her.
Amber slowly folds her arms and studies the situation carefully.
AMBER
Because I know Wayne. He doesn’t just do things for people for no reason.
DAVE
Amber, here we go.
AMBER
No, seriously, Dave. Wayne doesn’t just do things for people for no reason.
The assistant quietly steps away, sensing the tension.
DAVE
She’s here to help me with work. That’s it.
AMBER
Well… welcome.
The words sound polite, but Amber’s expression says something completely different.
SCENE 2 — HALLWAY — MOMENTS LATER
Amber walks down the hallway, frustrated. She stops and thinks about everything that just happened.
She turns around and heads back toward Dave’s office.
AMBER
One more question.
DAVE
What now?
AMBER
Why did Wayne recommend her specifically?
DAVE
I don’t know. He said she was good at what she does.
AMBER
That’s it?
DAVE
That’s it.
Amber shakes her head. She knows there is more to the situation.
AMBER
Just watch.
SCENE 3 — WAYNE’S OFFICE — LATER
Wayne sits comfortably at his desk. Amber walks in without knocking.
WAYNE
Well, look who decided to visit me.
AMBER
Don’t play with me, Wayne.
WAYNE
Play with you?
AMBER
You recommended Dave a new assistant. Why?
WAYNE
Because Dave needed one.
Amber stares at him, unconvinced.
AMBER
You knew exactly how I would react.
WAYNE
Amber, you give yourself too much credit.
AMBER
No. You know me too well.
Wayne tries to hide a smile.
AMBER
Don’t use Dave to start problems with me.
WAYNE
Nobody is starting problems.
AMBER
I know you, Wayne. And if this assistant causes drama, I’m coming right back here.
Amber exits. Wayne watches the door and smiles.
WAYNE
She knows me too well.
SCENE 4 — DAVE’S OFFICE — EVENING
Dave sits alone at his desk. Amber walks in quietly.
DAVE
You came back?
AMBER
I talked to Wayne.
DAVE
And?
AMBER
He says he was just helping you.
Dave starts thinking about the timing of everything.
DAVE
Wait a minute. Maybe you were right.
AMBER
That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you.
DAVE
Wayne might actually be doing this just to get under your skin.
AMBER
Now you understand.
SCENE 5 — HALLWAY — NIGHT
Amber and Dave walk toward the exit. Suddenly, Wayne appears at the end of the hallway.
WAYNE
Everything good?
DAVE
Yeah. Everything’s good.
WAYNE
Good. Because I already have another idea for the assistant.
Amber’s eyes widen. Dave looks confused.
DAVE
Another idea?
WAYNE
Yeah. I think she should start helping with some of your other business too.
Amber immediately looks at Dave. Dave looks back at Amber.
WAYNE
What?
AMBER
Wayne… this is exactly what I’m talking about.
Wayne walks away laughing. Dave watches him leave.
DAVE
Yeah… you definitely told me.
Amber watches Wayne disappear around the corner. Her expression becomes serious.
AMBER
This is only the beginning.
