Dave taunts Amber about the $4 million house he gave her, and Amber goes quiet after hearing what Dave says.
WELCOME
AMBER AND DAVE — THE $4 MILLION HOUSE
SCENE 1 — THE LIVING ROOM
The house is quiet.

Soft evening light fills the living room.

Suddenly, the front door swings open.
Amber walks inside looking angry and upset. She drops her bag onto the couch and begins pacing across the room.
A few moments later, Dave walks into the room. He immediately notices Amber’s mood and walks toward her.
DAVE
Why are you so bothered?
Amber stops pacing and turns toward him.
AMBER
You really want to know what’s wrong?
DAVE
Yes. What’s wrong?
AMBER
If I’m with you, then why don’t you stay away from other women?

You want to make everybody yours. You want every woman around you.

But that can’t happen while you have me.
Dave looks confused by Amber’s accusation.
DAVE
Amber, you’re misunderstanding the whole situation.
AMBER
Then explain it.
DAVE
She’s just my assistant.

Wayne hired her for me, and that’s all this is.
Amber crosses her arms and shakes her head.
AMBER
And I’m supposed to believe that?
DAVE
Why wouldn’t you?
AMBER
Because I’ve seen how things work.
SCENE 2 — THE ULTIMATUM
Amber’s frustration continues to grow.
AMBER
Then fire her.
DAVE
What?
AMBER
You heard me. If she’s causing problems between us, fire her.
DAVE
Amber, I’m not firing somebody just because you’re jealous.
AMBER
I’m not jealous. I’m protecting what belongs to me.
DAVE
Nobody belongs to anybody.
AMBER
Then maybe we shouldn’t be together.
Dave’s expression changes.
DAVE
What are you saying?
AMBER
If you don’t fire her, then forget about me.
The room suddenly becomes silent.
DAVE
You’re really going to give me an ultimatum over my assistant?
AMBER
I’m giving you a choice.
DAVE
You don’t get to decide who works with me.
AMBER
And you don’t get to expect me to sit here and accept everything.
SCENE 3 — DAVE REMINDS AMBER
Dave takes a deep breath. His voice becomes calmer, but disappointment is visible on his face.
DAVE
Amber, do you remember what happened with Anthony?
Amber becomes quiet.
DAVE
Anthony kicked you out of his house.

You couldn’t be with Anthony.

And after everything that happened, I still chose to love you.
AMBER
Dave…
DAVE
No. Let me finish.

You couldn’t be with Anthony, and after everything, I was still willing to stand beside you.
Amber looks uncomfortable.
DAVE
I didn’t ask you to be perfect.

I just wanted you to appreciate what I was doing for you.
AMBER
I appreciate you.
DAVE
Do you?
Dave pauses and looks directly at Amber.
DAVE
Because sometimes it doesn’t feel like it.
SCENE 4 — THE $4 MILLION HOUSE
Dave takes another breath. His voice becomes emotional.
DAVE
And I even got you a four-million-dollar house.
Amber freezes.
DAVE
A four-million-dollar house, Amber.

I did that because I wanted you to be happy.
AMBER
Dave…
DAVE
I wanted you to have something beautiful.

Something that showed you how serious I was about you.
Amber looks down. The anger on her face begins to disappear.
DAVE
What am I getting in return?

I’m not saying money can buy love. It can’t.

But I made sacrifices for you.
Amber remains silent.
DAVE
I tried to give you a life where you didn’t have to worry about anything.
Amber looks at Dave, but she doesn’t know what to say.
SCENE 5 — AMBER REALIZES
The room becomes completely silent.
Amber looks around the beautiful house. Her expression slowly changes.
DAVE
You keep focusing on another woman, but you’re not looking at what we have.
AMBER
I just don’t want to lose you.
DAVE
Then stop pushing me away.
Amber looks down.
AMBER
I know you’ve done a lot for me.

And I know the house wasn’t something small.
DAVE
No, it wasn’t.
AMBER
I didn’t mean to make you feel like I don’t appreciate you.
DAVE
Then don’t make me feel that way.
Amber nods quietly.
DAVE
I can’t keep proving my love by giving you things.

The house is yours.

What matters is trust.
AMBER
Then don’t use it against me.
DAVE
Fair enough.
SCENE 6 — THE UNFINISHED ARGUMENT
Amber slowly stands and walks toward the window.
Outside, the evening sky is beginning to darken.
AMBER
So what happens now?
DAVE
Now we decide whether we’re going to trust each other.
AMBER
And the assistant?
DAVE
She’s still my assistant.
AMBER
So you’re not firing her?
DAVE
No.
Amber looks disappointed, but this time she doesn’t argue.
AMBER
Okay. I’m going to try to trust you.
DAVE
That’s all I’ve been asking.
AMBER
But Dave…
DAVE
Yeah?
AMBER
Don’t give me a reason to regret trusting you.
DAVE
I won’t.
For a brief moment, everything seems calm.
Suddenly, Amber’s phone vibrates.
She looks down at the screen.
Her expression immediately changes.
DAVE
What’s wrong?
Amber doesn’t answer.
DAVE
Amber?
Amber slowly raises her eyes.
DAVE
What did you get?
AMBER
Nothing.
DAVE
You’re lying.
Amber takes a step back.
AMBER
I said it’s nothing.
Dave watches her carefully.
The peaceful moment disappears.
Amber looks at her phone again.
Whatever she just received may change everything.
TO BE CONTINUE.
