An Unexpected Visitor
The afternoon feels unusually quiet. Inside Danisha’s house, everything appears normal. The living room is still, the television is turned off, and sunlight falls softly through the windows. Anthony is home alone. He moves around the house, occasionally checking his phone, unaware that Danisha’s cousin is about to arrive. A car pulls up outside. Anthony looks toward the window. His expression changes when he realizes who has arrived.
ANTHONY: You’re here?
Danisha’s cousin smiles politely as she steps inside.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: Yeah. I came to see Danisha, but she told me she’d be working today.
Anthony nods.
ANTHONY: She should be back later.
Danisha’s cousin places her bag down and looks around.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: I’ll wait for her, then.
Anthony gestures toward the living room.
ANTHONY: Sure. Make yourself comfortable.
They sit across from each other. For a few moments, there is an awkward silence. Then Anthony starts talking about ordinary things — work, family, and Danisha. But slowly, the conversation changes. Anthony keeps looking at her. She notices.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: Why do you keep looking at me like that?
Anthony hesitates.
ANTHONY: I don’t know.
A nervous silence follows. The atmosphere suddenly feels different. Anthony stands.
ANTHONY: Come on. I want to show you something.
Danisha’s cousin looks uncertain but follows him down the hallway. They enter a quiet room. Anthony closes the door behind them. Outside, the house remains completely silent. Inside, Anthony admits that he has been thinking about her since their previous meeting.
ANTHONY: I probably shouldn’t be saying this.
She looks at him seriously.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: Then maybe you shouldn’t.
Anthony lowers his eyes. For a moment, neither of them says anything. The tension between them becomes impossible to ignore. They move closer to each other. The situation crosses a line that neither of them should have crossed.
Danisha Comes Home
Meanwhile, several miles away, Danisha finishes her work. She checks the time. She picks up her things and heads home. She has no idea what is happening inside her house. A short while later, Danisha’s car pulls into the driveway. She parks and steps out. Her expression is tired but relaxed. She walks toward the front door.
DANISHA: I’m finally home.
She unlocks the door and walks inside. The house is strangely quiet. Danisha puts her belongings down.
DANISHA: Anthony?
No answer. She looks toward the living room. Empty. She checks the kitchen. Nothing. Her expression slowly changes.
DANISHA: Anthony, where are you?
Still nothing. Danisha walks farther into the house. She checks another room. Empty. Her concern grows. She takes out her phone and tries calling him. The call rings. No one answers. Danisha lowers the phone.
DANISHA: Why isn’t he answering?
She starts walking toward the bedroom. Then she notices something. The bedroom door is slightly closed. Danisha stops. Her eyes narrow. She slowly reaches for the handle. A strange feeling comes over her. She opens the door. And freezes.
The Discovery
Anthony is inside with her cousin. They are kissing. For several seconds, Danisha cannot move. Her face turns pale. Her entire expression changes from confusion to disbelief. The phone nearly slips from her hand.
DANISHA: Anthony…?
Anthony immediately pulls away. His face fills with shock. Danisha’s cousin turns toward the doorway. She looks horrified. Nobody speaks. The silence is deafening. Danisha stares at them both. Her eyes begin to fill with tears, but she refuses to look away.
DANISHA: What am I looking at?
Anthony takes one step toward her.
ANTHONY: Danisha, wait.
She immediately raises her hand.
DANISHA: Don’t.
Anthony stops. Danisha looks toward her cousin.
DANISHA: You came here to see me.
Her cousin looks down.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: Danisha, I can explain.
Danisha shakes her head.
DANISHA: No. I don’t want an explanation right now.
Anthony tries to speak again.
ANTHONY: It’s not what you think.
Danisha lets out a bitter laugh.
DANISHA: I opened my bedroom door and saw you kissing my cousin.
Anthony has no answer. Danisha looks between them. The person she trusted most and someone from her own family are standing in front of her. Her hands tremble.
DANISHA: How long has this been happening?
Anthony remains silent. That silence tells Danisha more than any explanation could. She takes a step backward.
DANISHA: I trusted both of you.
Her voice breaks. Her cousin wipes away a tear.
DANISHA’S COUSIN: I’m sorry.
Danisha looks at her.
DANISHA: You’re sorry?
She pauses.
DANISHA: You came into my home.
Her eyes move toward Anthony.
DANISHA: And you… you betrayed me in my own house.
The Confrontation
Anthony looks devastated by the situation.
ANTHONY: Danisha, please let me explain.
Danisha turns away.
DANISHA: I gave you every reason to respect me.
She takes a deep breath.
DANISHA: And this is what I come home to?
Nobody answers. The room becomes painfully quiet. Danisha walks toward the door. Anthony follows a few steps behind.
ANTHONY: Danisha, please.
She stops but doesn’t turn around.
DANISHA: Stay away from me.
Anthony freezes. Danisha finally turns around. There is disappointment in her eyes rather than anger.
DANISHA: I never thought I would have to question the people closest to me.
She walks out of the room. Anthony remains standing there. Danisha’s cousin lowers her head, realizing the damage that has been done.
Driving Away
Danisha reaches the hallway. She wipes her tears and looks toward the front door. Her entire world has changed in a matter of seconds. Behind her, Anthony calls her name one more time. She doesn’t answer. She walks away. The door closes. Silence fills the house again. But this time, the silence feels completely different.
Danisha sits inside her car, staring through the windshield. She takes a deep breath. Her phone vibrates. She looks at the screen. It is Anthony calling. Danisha watches the phone ring. Then she turns the screen facedown. She starts the car. Inside the house, Anthony stands by the window, watching Danisha drive away. His face is filled with regret. But Danisha doesn’t look back. The car disappears down the street.
And one question remains hanging in the air: can Danisha ever trust Anthony again after what she witnessed?
