The house was unusually quiet that evening.

Dave had made sure nobody would disturb him. But nobody knew that Evelyn was secretly there with him.

They were sitting together, speaking quietly and constantly checking the hallway.

Dave: “Are you sure nobody knows you came here?”

Evelyn: “Nobody knows. I came through the side entrance. I just wanted to talk to you without everybody getting involved.”

Dave: “Evelyn, this is already getting complicated.”

Evelyn: “I know. But every time I try to stay away, something pulls me back.”

Suddenly, Amber’s phone started ringing across town.

She looked at the screen. It was an unknown number.

Amber: “Who is calling me this late?”

She answered.

Amber: “Hello?”

There was silence for several seconds.

Then a mysterious voice spoke.

Unknown Caller: “Amber, you need to know what Dave and Evelyn are doing behind your back.”

Amber immediately sat up.

Amber: “Who is this?”

Unknown Caller: “That doesn’t matter. What matters is that you go to the house right now.”

Amber: “Why?”

Unknown Caller: “Because Evelyn is with Dave.”

Amber froze.

Amber: “What did you just say?”

Unknown Caller: “They’re together right now. And from what I’ve seen, this isn’t the first time.”

Amber: “Tell me who you are!”

Unknown Caller: “Go there before they realize someone knows.”

The call suddenly ended.

Amber stared at her phone for a moment.

Then she grabbed her keys.

Amber: “Oh, they better have an explanation for this.”

Meanwhile, inside the house, Evelyn suddenly heard a car outside.

Evelyn: “Dave…”

Dave: “What?”

Evelyn: “I think somebody just pulled up.”

Dave stood up and looked toward the window.

Dave: “Who?”

Evelyn: “I don’t know.”

The front door suddenly opened.

Amber walked inside.

She stopped.

Dave stopped.

Evelyn stopped.

For several seconds, nobody said a word.

Amber slowly looked from Dave to Evelyn.

Amber: “So this is what y’all been doing?”

Dave: “Amber, wait. It’s not what you think.”

Amber: “Not what I think? Evelyn is standing in here with you, hiding from everybody, and I’m supposed to believe this is nothing?”

Evelyn nervously stepped forward.

Evelyn: “Amber, please listen.”

Amber: “Don’t tell me to listen! I’ve been hearing lies all day!”

Dave: “Lower your voice. We can talk about this.”

Amber: “No! You don’t get to tell me how to react after I find out like this.”

Amber pointed toward Evelyn.

Amber: “And you! Why are you here?”

Evelyn: “I just came to talk to Dave.”

Amber: “At night? Secretly? You expect me to believe that?”

Evelyn looked at Dave.

Amber immediately noticed the glance.

Amber: “Oh, now I understand. You two don’t even need words anymore.”

Dave: “Amber, you’re making this bigger than it is.”

Amber: “Then explain it.”

Dave opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

Amber shook her head.

Amber: “Exactly.”

Amber pulled out her phone.

Amber: “Someone just called me and told me about you two. They knew exactly where you were.”

Dave’s expression changed.

Dave: “Someone called you?”

Amber: “Yes.”

Dave: “Who?”

Amber: “I don’t know. But whoever it was knew enough to send me here.”

Evelyn suddenly became nervous.

Evelyn: “Dave, we need to leave.”

Amber turned toward her.

Amber: “Leave?”

Evelyn: “I just need to go home.”

Evelyn grabbed her purse and started toward the door.

Amber stepped in front of the doorway.

Amber: “You’re not walking out of here until you answer one question.”

Evelyn stopped.

Evelyn: “What?”

Amber: “How long has this been going on?”

Evelyn couldn’t answer.

Amber: “How long?”

Evelyn: “Amber, please…”

Amber: “Answer me!”

Evelyn looked down.

The silence told Amber more than any explanation could.

Amber: “Wow.”

Dave stepped forward.

Dave: “Amber—”

Amber: “Don’t. Don’t say my name right now.”

Evelyn tried to move toward the exit again.

Amber: “Where do you think you’re going?”

Evelyn: “I need to leave.”

Amber: “You can leave after we finish talking.”

Evelyn: “I can’t stay here.”

Amber: “Then tell the truth and walk out.”

Evelyn looked frightened.

Evelyn: “I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”

Amber: “But it did.”

Dave tried to calm everyone down.

Dave: “This isn’t going to solve anything.”

Amber: “You’re right. It won’t. Because now I have another question.”

Dave: “What question?”

Amber: “Who called me?”

The room suddenly became silent.

Evelyn looked at Dave.

Dave looked at Amber.

Neither of them had an answer.

Then Amber’s phone rang again.

The same unknown number appeared on the screen.

Amber slowly looked at Dave and Evelyn.

Amber: “Maybe they want to explain themselves.”

She answered the call on speaker.

Amber: “You called me before. Now you’re going to tell me who you are.”

The mysterious voice replied.

Unknown Caller: “You still haven’t seen the whole story.”

Amber’s eyes widened.

Amber: “What does that mean?”

Unknown Caller: “Check Dave’s phone.”

The call ended.

Amber slowly turned toward Dave.

Dave: “Amber, don’t.”

Amber: “Why are you scared of me checking your phone?”

Dave had no answer.

Amber: “Give me the phone.”

Dave: “No.”

Amber nodded slowly.

Amber: “Then I already have my answer.”

Dave looked toward Evelyn.

Dave: “This is getting out of control.”

Amber: “It went out of control the moment you decided secrets were better than honesty.”

Evelyn stood silently near the doorway, realizing that the situation had become much bigger than she expected.

Then another notification appeared on Dave’s phone.

Amber saw it.

Dave quickly picked up the phone.

But it was too late.

Amber had already seen the name on the screen.

Amber: “Wait…”

She stared at Dave.

Amber: “That’s the person who called me.”

Dave’s expression changed.

Evelyn looked confused.

Evelyn: “Who is it?”

Amber didn’t answer.

She simply looked at Dave.

Amber: “You thought the secret was between you and Evelyn.”

She took a step closer.

Amber: “But somebody else has been watching the whole thing.”

Dave swallowed nervously.

Dave: “Amber…”

Amber: “No. We’re not finished.”

She pointed toward the phone.

Amber: “Because tomorrow, I’m finding out exactly who that person is—and why they wanted me to know.”

Evelyn looked frightened.

Dave looked worried.

Amber walked out of the room with one thought running through her mind.

Amber: “If the unknown caller knew about Dave and Evelyn, what else did they know?”

The biggest secret of the night had just been exposed.

But Amber had a feeling the truth behind that mysterious phone call was going to be even more shocking.
