Larry’s House — Late Night
The house is quiet. Larry stands near the living-room window, staring into the darkness outside. His expression is serious, as if he has already made a decision that cannot be undone. He takes a deep breath and picks up his phone. After a moment of hesitation, he calls Lynette.
LARRY: Lynette, can I talk to you about something important?
There is silence on the other end.
LYNETTE: Of course. What happened?
Larry looks down, gathering his courage.
LARRY: I’ve made a decision about Bethany.
Lynette immediately becomes curious.
LYNETTE: What kind of decision?
Larry slowly sits on the couch.
LARRY: I’m going to divorce her.
Lynette’s eyes widen. For a moment, she does not know what to say.
LYNETTE: You’re serious?
Larry nods even though she cannot see him.
LARRY: Yes. I’ve thought about it for a long time. I know it’s going to change everything.
He pauses. Then his voice becomes softer.
LARRY: But there’s something else I want to ask you.
Lynette waits.
LARRY: Will you marry me?
Silence fills the phone call. Lynette is completely stunned. Then a smile slowly appears on her face.
LYNETTE: Are you really asking me to marry you?
LARRY: Yes.
Larry smiles nervously.
LARRY: Because once I divorce Bethany, I’m going to be alone. And I don’t want to spend the rest of my life alone.
Lynette’s happiness becomes impossible to hide.
LYNETTE: Larry… yes.
Larry closes his eyes in relief.
LARRY: You mean it?
LYNETTE: Yes. I’ll marry you.
Larry smiles. For the first time that night, his expression looks peaceful.
Lynette’s Home — Later That Night
Lynette ends the call and sits quietly on her bed. She looks at her phone and smiles. She cannot believe what just happened. Larry is leaving Bethany. And he has chosen her. She stands and walks toward the mirror, imagining the future.
LYNETTE: Tomorrow.
She smiles to herself.
LYNETTE: Tomorrow, everything changes.
She immediately begins preparing for the morning.
Before Dawn — 4:00 A.M.
The streets are almost empty. The city is covered in darkness. Larry arrives at a small wedding venue with Lynette. Both are dressed for the occasion. They look at each other. Larry gently takes Lynette’s hand.
LARRY: Are you nervous?
Lynette smiles.
LYNETTE: A little.
Larry squeezes her hand.
LARRY: We’re really doing this.
LYNETTE: Yes. We are.
They walk inside together. A short time later, Larry and Lynette exchange their vows. The ceremony is simple. But for Lynette, it feels like the beginning of a completely new life.
LARRY: I promise to stand beside you.
Lynette looks into his eyes.
LYNETTE: And I promise to stand beside you.
They exchange rings. The ceremony is complete. Larry looks at Lynette with a smile.
LARRY: My wife.
Lynette smiles emotionally.
LYNETTE: My husband.
They embrace. Neither of them realizes how devastating this secret will be when Bethany discovers the truth.
Bethany’s House — Morning
Bethany wakes up expecting an ordinary morning. She walks into the kitchen and notices that Larry is not there. She checks her phone. Nothing. She becomes suspicious. A few minutes later, she receives a message. Bethany reads it. Her expression immediately changes. The message contains information about Larry’s divorce plans. Bethany freezes.
BETHANY: What?
She reads it again. Her hands begin to tremble.
BETHANY: Larry is divorcing me?
She sits down slowly. For several seconds, she simply stares at the screen. Then another piece of information reaches her. Larry has already married someone else. Bethany’s eyes widen.
BETHANY: No…
She shakes her head.
BETHANY: That’s not possible.
She stands up quickly.
BETHANY: He wouldn’t do this.
But the more she reads, the clearer everything becomes. Larry did not just plan to divorce her. He married Lynette before Bethany even knew what was happening. Bethany becomes overwhelmed.
Larry Returns — Morning
The front door opens. Larry walks inside. He looks calm. But the moment he sees Bethany standing in the living room, his expression changes. Bethany is holding her phone. Her eyes are filled with tears.
BETHANY: Is it true?
Larry stops.
LARRY: Bethany—
BETHANY: Don’t.
Her voice shakes.
BETHANY: Just tell me the truth.
Larry looks away. Bethany steps closer.
BETHANY: Are you divorcing me?
Larry takes a deep breath.
LARRY: Yes.
Bethany’s face falls. Even though she already knew, hearing it directly from Larry breaks her.
BETHANY: And Lynette?
Larry remains silent. Bethany understands.
BETHANY: You married her?
Larry slowly nods. Bethany covers her mouth. Tears roll down her cheeks.
BETHANY: Before you even divorced me?
LARRY: Bethany, I was going to tell you—
BETHANY: Tell me what?
She raises her voice.
BETHANY: That you were leaving me? That you had already found someone else? That while I was still your wife, you were planning another marriage?
Larry looks uncomfortable.
LARRY: I know this is difficult.
Bethany laughs bitterly through her tears.
BETHANY: Difficult?
She wipes her tears.
BETHANY: You have no idea what this feels like.
The Confrontation
Bethany walks toward Larry. Her anger is now mixed with heartbreak.
BETHANY: How long were you planning this?
LARRY: I’ve been thinking about divorce for a while.
BETHANY: And you never thought I deserved to know?
Larry struggles to answer.
LARRY: I didn’t know how to tell you.
Bethany shakes her head.
BETHANY: But you knew how to marry Lynette.
Larry looks down. Bethany’s eyes fill with more tears.
BETHANY: You had the courage to marry her at four in the morning.
She pauses.
BETHANY: But you didn’t have the courage to tell your wife that you were leaving her.
Larry remains silent. That silence hurts Bethany more than anything.
Lynette Arrives
The door opens. Lynette walks inside. She immediately notices the tension. Bethany turns toward her. Their eyes meet. Lynette’s smile disappears.
BETHANY: Congratulations.
Lynette looks uncomfortable.
LYNETTE: Bethany, I—
BETHANY: No.
Bethany raises her hand.
BETHANY: You don’t have to explain.
She looks at Larry.
BETHANY: You already made your choice.
Larry looks at Bethany.
LARRY: I never wanted to hurt you.
Bethany wipes away another tear.
BETHANY: Maybe you didn’t want to hurt me.
She pauses.
BETHANY: But you did.
The room falls silent. Bethany takes one final look at Larry and Lynette.
BETHANY: I just wish you had given me the truth before giving someone else your future.
She turns and walks away. Larry watches her leave. Lynette stands beside him, but even she realizes that this moment is far more painful than either of them expected. Bethany disappears into the hallway. Larry remains frozen in place. The consequences of his secret marriage have finally arrived.
