SCENE 01 — DAVE’S OFFICE
The room is quiet.
Dave stands near his desk, holding a set of brand-new car keys.
His assistant walks in.
I want you to have this.
Dave places the keys in her hand.
Is this really for me?
Dave nods.
Yes. The car is yours.
The assistant looks through the window and sees the new car parked outside.
Her face lights up.
Thank you, Dave. I don’t even know what to say.
Dave smiles and hands her an envelope.
She opens it and sees a large amount of cash.
Her eyes widen.
Dave… you gave me money too?
You’ve worked hard. I wanted to do something for you.
SCENE 02 — AMBER FINDS OUT
Amber is sitting on the couch, looking at her phone.
A message suddenly appears.
She reads it.
Her expression changes.
Amber slowly sits up.
What?
She reads the message again.
Her face becomes serious.
She grabs her phone and stands.
SCENE 03 — THE CONFRONTATION
Amber arrives and walks quickly into Dave’s office.
She is clearly angry.
Dave looks up as Amber walks in.
She doesn’t sit down.
She stares directly at him.
Why did you give your assistant a new car?
What are you talking about?
Amber steps closer.
You know exactly what I’m talking about.
She holds up her phone.
And you gave her money too?
Yes.
Why?
Because I wanted to.
Amber looks at him in disbelief.
That’s your answer?
It’s my money. I’ll do whatever I want with it.
Amber becomes even more upset.
We are getting divorced, Dave.
Dave remains silent.
And while we’re dealing with lawyers and divorce papers, you’re giving another woman a brand-new car and money?
Dave looks away.
Amber notices.
Why are you looking away?
Dave says nothing.
The silence becomes uncomfortable.
Dave, look at me.
Dave finally looks up.
Tell me the real reason.
There is no other reason.
Amber doesn’t believe him.
Then why can’t you explain it?
Because I don’t have to explain every decision I make.
THE EMOTIONAL MOMENT
Amber walks toward the door.
She stops before leaving.
You know what hurts the most?
Dave looks at her.
It’s not the car.
It’s not even the money.
Amber’s voice becomes softer.
It’s the fact that I found out from someone else.
Dave remains silent.
We’re getting divorced, but I thought I at least deserved the truth.
Dave opens his mouth to respond.
Nothing comes out.
You don’t even have an answer.
Amber slowly shakes her head.
That tells me everything I need to know.
She walks out.
