LARRY AND BETHANY — THE TRUTH COMES OUT

SCENE 1 — LARRY’S HOUSE — EVENING

The house is unusually quiet.

Larry walks through the front door, his face tense. He has just learned something that has completely changed the way he sees Bethany.

He stops in the hallway.

His eyes are filled with anger and disbelief.

Bethany is sitting in the living room, unaware of what is about to happen.

Larry slowly walks toward her.

LARRY

You need to tell me the truth, Bethany.

Bethany looks up, confused by the seriousness in his voice.

BETHANY

What are you talking about?

Larry stares at her.

LARRY

I know what you did.

Bethany’s expression changes.

She immediately realizes that Larry has discovered the truth.

BETHANY

Larry, please… let me explain.

Larry raises his hand, stopping her.

LARRY

Explain?

His voice becomes colder.

LARRY

You told the police about Sharra’s mother.

Bethany lowers her eyes.

For a moment, neither of them speaks.

The silence says everything.

LARRY

Is it true?

Bethany takes a shaky breath.

BETHANY

Yes.

Larry looks away, struggling to control his anger.

BETHANY

But I didn’t do it because I wanted to hurt anyone.

Larry turns back toward her.

LARRY

Then why did you do it?

Bethany’s eyes fill with tears.

BETHANY

My father told me to.

Larry freezes.

The anger on his face grows stronger.

LARRY

Your father told you to do it?

Bethany nods slowly.

BETHANY

He said it was the right thing to do.

Larry lets out a bitter laugh.

LARRY

So you just did whatever your father told you?

Bethany wipes away a tear.

BETHANY

I thought I was helping him.

Larry shakes his head.

LARRY

Do you even understand what you’ve done?

Bethany remains silent.

Larry’s disappointment is now mixed with anger.

SCENE 2 — THE CONFRONTATION

Larry steps closer.

LARRY

You had no right to involve the police without telling us.

BETHANY

I was scared.

LARRY

And Sharra’s mother wasn’t scared?

Bethany looks down.

LARRY

You didn’t think about what would happen to everyone after you made that call?

BETHANY

I’m sorry.

Larry’s expression hardens.

LARRY

Sorry doesn’t change what happened.

Bethany stands up.

She tries to move closer to him.

BETHANY

Larry, please listen to me.

Larry steps back.

LARRY

No.

His voice is firm.

LARRY

I’ve heard enough.

Bethany’s face falls.

BETHANY

Where am I supposed to go?

Larry looks at her for several seconds.

Then he points toward the door.

LARRY

Go to your father.

Bethany stares at him in shock.

BETHANY

What?

LARRY

You heard me.

Larry’s voice echoes through the room.

LARRY

From now on, stay with your father.

Bethany’s eyes fill with tears.

BETHANY

You can’t mean that.

LARRY

I mean every word.

He walks toward the door and opens it.

Cold evening air enters the house.

Bethany looks at the open doorway, then back at Larry.

BETHANY

Larry, please don’t throw me out.

Larry’s face remains serious, but there is pain behind his anger.

LARRY

You chose to listen to your father.

He pauses.

LARRY

Now go and live with him.

Bethany shakes her head, crying.

BETHANY

I made a mistake.

LARRY

Maybe you did.

Larry looks away.

LARRY

But there are consequences for our choices.

SCENE 3 — BETHANY LEAVES

Bethany slowly walks toward the door.

Every step is heavy.

She stops beside Larry.

BETHANY

Is there really no place for me here anymore?

Larry doesn’t answer immediately.

For a brief moment, his anger seems to disappear.

He looks at Bethany and sees how hurt she is.

But the betrayal still weighs heavily on him.

LARRY

You should have thought about that before you called the police.

Bethany closes her eyes.

A tear rolls down her cheek.

She picks up her bag.

Larry watches silently as she walks outside.

Bethany stops at the doorstep.

She turns around one last time.

BETHANY

I never wanted to lose you.

Larry’s eyes become emotional.

But he forces himself to remain firm.

LARRY

Then you should have trusted me.

Bethany looks down.

She slowly walks away.

Larry remains standing at the door.

He watches her disappear down the street.

Then he closes the door.

SCENE 4 — OUTSIDE THE HOUSE

Bethany walks alone.

Her tears continue to fall.

She looks back at Larry’s house one final time.

The door is now closed.

BETHANY

I’m sorry…

Her voice is barely audible.

She hugs her bag tightly against her chest.

She knows she has lost Larry’s trust.

But deep inside, she also knows she had been following her father’s instructions.

Bethany takes out her phone.

She hesitates before calling her father.

Her finger hovers over his name.

Finally, she presses CALL.

SCENE 5 — INSIDE LARRY’S HOUSE

Larry stands alone in the living room.

The anger that filled him moments ago has slowly turned into sadness.

He sits down.

He looks toward the empty chair where Bethany had been sitting.

For a moment, he remembers happier times.

His expression softens.

LARRY

Why did you listen to him, Bethany?

He lowers his head.

Larry knows he was harsh.

But he believes he had no other choice.

He picks up his phone.

He considers calling Bethany.

His thumb stops over her name.

He doesn’t press it.

Instead, he puts the phone down.

LARRY

You need to understand what you’ve done.

The room falls silent.

SCENE 6 — BETHANY’S DECISION

Bethany reaches the end of the street.

She stops beneath a streetlight.

Her father’s words come back to her.

She remembers how he told her to report Sharra’s mother to the police.

She realizes that following his instructions has now cost her the home she loved.

Bethany wipes her tears.

BETHANY

I thought I was doing the right thing.

She takes a deep breath.

BETHANY

But maybe I should have asked questions first.

She looks toward the road ahead.

There is fear in her eyes, but also determination.

Bethany begins walking again.

Behind her, Larry’s house becomes smaller and smaller in the distance.

Neither of them knows what will happen next.

But one thing is certain:

Their relationship will never be the same.

And somewhere between anger, regret, and betrayal, the truth is only beginning to come out.
