Why don’t you want to be close to me anymore? Is it because you’re still thinking about Sharra?

LARRY:
What are you talking about now? Why do you always have to bring Sharra into everything?

BETHANY:
Because I can see the way you act! Whenever I try to get close to you, you push me away. But when it comes to Sharra, you always seem to have time for her.

Larry becomes frustrated and shakes his head.

LARRY:
Nothing is going on between me and Sharra. You need to stop making assumptions about things you don’t know.

BETHANY:
You expect me to believe that? I want you to stop lying to me!

The argument grows more intense as Bethany’s doubts begin to overpower her ability to listen.

SCENE 3: THE PUERTO RICO ACCUSATION

Bethany brings up Larry’s trip to Puerto Rico with Sharra. In her mind, the trip explains why Larry seems emotionally distant from her.

BETHANY:
Let’s talk about Puerto Rico, Larry. You think I’ve forgotten what happened when you went there with Sharra?

LARRY:
What exactly are you accusing me of?

BETHANY:
You and Sharra spent several nights together! And now you expect me to believe that you don’t have feelings for her anymore?

LARRY:
You don’t know everything that happened on that trip. Stop treating your suspicions like they’re facts.

BETHANY:
Then explain it to me! If there’s nothing between you two, why can’t you make me feel like I’m the woman you want?

Larry looks exhausted. He feels trapped in an argument that neither of them knows how to end.

LARRY:
I’ve answered your questions. I’m not going to keep defending myself against accusations that you refuse to let go of.

BETHANY:
Just admit it, Larry. You still love Sharra, don’t you?

LARRY:
No! I’m telling you that this isn’t what you think it is!

SCENE 4: AN ARGUMENT GOES TOO FAR

The argument reaches a breaking point. Both raise their voices, and the atmosphere becomes increasingly tense. Larry tries to step away, hoping to prevent the situation from getting worse.

BETHANY:
You never listen to me! You make me feel unwanted, and then you act like I’m crazy for asking questions!

LARRY:
And you never give me a chance to explain myself! Every conversation turns into an accusation!

LARRY:
I’m done with this conversation. We need to calm down before we say something we can’t take back.

But Bethany is overwhelmed by anger. In a moment of terrible judgment, she grabs a hammer from nearby.

LARRY:
Bethany, put that down! What are you doing?

BETHANY:
You have no idea how much you’ve hurt me!

LARRY:
Whatever you’re feeling, we can talk about it. Put the hammer down!

Bethany loses control and strikes Larry on the head. Larry falls to the floor and becomes unconscious.

BETHANY:
Larry? Larry, please wake up!

When Larry does not respond, Bethany panics and calls emergency services for help.

SCENE 5: THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY

Emergency responders arrive and assess Larry before taking him to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Bethany watches helplessly as they take him away.

For the first time, she stops thinking about Sharra and Puerto Rico. All she can think about is Larry and whether he will recover.

BETHANY:
Please, Larry. You have to be okay. I never wanted things to go this far.

At the hospital, the medical team examines Larry to determine the seriousness of his head injury. Bethany waits anxiously for news.

DOCTOR:
We are evaluating his condition carefully. A head injury like this can be serious, so we need to complete the necessary examinations and monitor him before we can give you a clearer answer.

BETHANY:
I should have walked away. I should never have let my anger control me.

The doctor explains that Larry’s recovery will depend on the extent of his injuries and how he responds to treatment.
