Bethany crosses an entire city just to catch the truth in someone’s eyes — but what she finds waiting at that café forces a confrontation no one is ready for.

CHICAGO – DAY

Bethany steps out of the terminal, breathing hard, eyes scanning the street with electric anxiety.

EXT. CAFÉ ACROSS THE STREET – CONTINUOUS

She spots Larry and Sharra, leaning close, laughing, fingers brushing.
Bethany freezes, her chest tightening.

She takes a breath. Steadies herself. Moves in.

CAFÉ TABLE – MOMENTS LATER

LARRY
(standing quickly, startled)
Bethany? What are you doing here?

Bethany’s eyes are sharp, her jaw tight.

BETHANY
I could ask you the same thing, Larry. But I think I already know why I’m here.

SHARRA
(soft, nervous)
Bethany, hey, it’s not what you think—

Bethany cuts her off like a blade.

BETHANY
Not what I think? Larry, you’re sitting here holding her hand. Laughing like I don’t exist. Don’t pretend this is friendly.

Larry raises his hands, defensive and shaken.

LARRY
Bethany, calm down. We’re just talking—

BETHANY
(voice rising, hurt and furious)
Just talking? I see the way you look at her. The way she leans in. I can’t ignore it anymore.

Sharra steps forward, guilt flickering across her face.

SHARRA
Bethany, I promise — Larry and I are just friends. Nothing more.

Bethany’s eyes glisten, but she stands tall.

BETHANY
Friends don’t act like this. Larry… I trusted you. We’re going home. Now.

A heavy silence drops between the three.

Larry looks between them, torn.

LARRY
(quiet, remorseful)
Alright… if this is what you need… we’ll go.

Bethany nods once — controlled, resolute.

EXT. PARKING LOT – MOMENTS LATER

Bethany walks ahead, stiff with determination.
Larry follows, guilt weighing on him.
Sharra watches from behind, regret settling in her eyes.

INT. CAR – DRIVING HOME – NIGHT

Silence. A long, painful silence.

Larry finally speaks.

LARRY
I… I didn’t mean to hurt you.

Bethany turns slightly, her voice low but unwavering.

BETHANY
Words aren’t enough anymore. I need respect. Loyalty. Boundaries.

Larry nods, absorbing each word like a consequence.

LARRY
I understand.

Bethany stares out the window, replaying the café scene in her head — the laughter, the closeness, the truth.

EXT. BETHANY AND LARRY’S HOUSE – NIGHT

The car stops.
Bethany steps out, standing straighter than before.
She breathes in — calm, empowered, aching but steady.

Larry lingers by the car, silent, remorseful.

Bethany walks toward the house, whispering to herself:

BETHANY
Sometimes… you have to face the storm to protect your peace.

She disappears inside.

FADE OUT.
