PURNELL’S SECRET ENGAGEMENT TO JADE EXPOSED! BETHANY AND HIS GIRLFRIEND TEAM UP AGAINST HIM!
SCENE 1 — PURNELL’S APARTMENT — AFTERNOON
Purnell sits on his couch, talking on the phone. A smile spreads across his face as he looks at a picture of Jade.
He has been thinking seriously about his future with her. He wants to marry Jade and is even considering getting an apartment where they can start their life together.
PURNELL:I’ve been thinking about everything, and I really want to make this happen. I want Jade to have a comfortable place. I don’t want her struggling or worrying about where she’s going to stay.
JADE (ON PHONE):Are you serious about all this?
PURNELL:Absolutely. I’m thinking about getting us an apartment. I want us to have our own space. I want to build something with you.
JADE:You know I appreciate that. I just hope you understand what you’re getting yourself into.
PURNELL:I know exactly what I want. I want you.
Purnell smiles, completely unaware that his secret plans are about to become the biggest problem of his life.
SCENE 2 — BETHANY DISCOVERS THE SECRET — LATER THAT DAY
Bethany sits at home scrolling through her phone when she comes across information about Purnell and Jade.
She stops immediately. Her eyes widen as she realizes Purnell is planning to marry Jade and get an apartment for her.
Bethany shakes her head in disbelief.
BETHANY:Oh, absolutely not! So Purnell is out here planning a whole future with Jade while his girlfriend is sitting around not knowing anything?
Bethany quickly grabs her phone. She knows exactly who needs to hear this.
BETHANY:I’m not keeping this to myself. His girlfriend needs to know what’s going on.
Bethany gets up and starts gathering the pictures she has of Purnell and Jade. She has no intention of letting him get away with this.
SCENE 3 — BETHANY CONFRONTS PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND — AFTERNOON
Bethany arrives and finds Purnell’s girlfriend sitting comfortably. She approaches her with a serious expression.
BETHANY:Girl, I need to show you something. You need to see what Purnell has been doing behind your back.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:What are you talking about? What happened?
BETHANY:Look at this! While you’re sitting here comfortable, Purnell is out here having a good time with an escort!
Purnell’s girlfriend looks confused.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Excuse me? What are you talking about? What are you trying to tell me?
BETHANY:I’m telling you that Purnell is planning to marry an escort named Jade. He’s even trying to get an apartment for her!
His girlfriend’s expression changes. She cannot believe what she is hearing.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Hold on. You’re telling me Purnell is planning to marry another woman? Do you have any proof of what you’re saying?
Bethany confidently pulls out her phone.
BETHANY:I absolutely have proof. I wouldn’t come to you with something like this if I didn’t have something to show you.
Bethany opens the pictures of Purnell and Jade.
BETHANY:Here! Take a good look at this.
Purnell’s girlfriend takes the phone. The moment she sees the pictures, her mouth drops open. She zooms in, staring at the screen in disbelief.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:OH MY GOD! Is this really Purnell?
BETHANY:Yes! That’s the same man you’re dealing with. And apparently, he’s making plans for a whole new life with Jade.
His girlfriend’s eyes fill with anger.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:He really thought he could do this to me?
BETHANY:That’s what I’m trying to tell you. He’s making plans behind your back, and you deserve to know the truth.
Purnell’s girlfriend stands up.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Where is he? I need to talk to him RIGHT NOW!
Bethany grabs her belongings and follows her.
SCENE 4 — THE BIG CONFRONTATION — PURNELL’S HOUSE
Purnell is standing in the living room when his girlfriend storms inside. Bethany follows closely behind.
Purnell immediately notices the anger on her face.
PURNELL:What’s going on? Why are you coming in here looking at me like that?
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:You! You need to explain something to me right now!
PURNELL:Explain what? What are you talking about?
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Why did you betray me? Tell me! Why would you do this to me?
Purnell looks confused.
PURNELL:What betrayal are you talking about? What did I do?
His girlfriend pulls out her phone and shows him the pictures.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! You’re planning to marry an escort, and you’re trying to get an apartment for her!
Purnell looks at the pictures and immediately realizes Bethany has exposed everything.
PURNELL:Hold on! Where did you get those pictures?
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Don’t change the subject! You have the nerve to make marriage plans with another woman while you’re still dealing with me?
PURNELL:What are you even talking about? You’re making this bigger than it needs to be!
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:BIGGER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE? You betrayed me, Purnell! You embarrassed me!
She points at the pictures again.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:And you thought I would never find out?
Purnell suddenly turns toward Bethany. He points his finger directly at her.
PURNELL:YOU! You told her all of this, didn’t you?
Bethany doesn’t even flinch.
BETHANY:Yes, we told her! What are you going to do about it?
PURNELL:You had no business getting involved in my personal life!
BETHANY:Oh, now you want privacy? You were making plans to marry another woman behind your girlfriend’s back! Don’t get mad at me because your secrets came out!
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:Don’t you dare blame Bethany! You’re the one who lied to me!
SCENE 5 — PURNELL GETS ATTACKED — THE FIGHT ERUPTS
Purnell tries to defend himself, but his girlfriend has completely lost her patience.
PURNELL:Y’all need to calm down. Nobody is about to tell me what I can and cannot do!
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:You should have thought about that before you decided to play with my feelings!
Suddenly, she pushes Purnell backward. He loses his balance and falls to the floor.
PURNELL:HEY! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?
Before he can get back up, Bethany steps forward.
BETHANY:You thought you were going to play everybody and get away with it?
Purnell tries to get up, but his girlfriend and Bethany start hitting him with punches and kicks.
PURNELL:GET OFF ME! BOTH OF Y’ALL ARE CRAZY!
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:You should have thought about me before you started making wedding plans with Jade!
BETHANY:That’s what happens when you think nobody is going to expose you!
The argument turns into complete chaos. Purnell covers his face, trying to protect himself.
PURNELL:SOMEBODY GET THESE WOMEN OFF ME!
His girlfriend finally steps back, breathing heavily. Bethany stands beside her, still furious.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:I’m done with you, Purnell! You embarrassed me for the last time!
Purnell slowly gets back on his feet, looking furious. He stares at Bethany.
PURNELL:You haven’t heard the last of this!
BETHANY:And you haven’t seen the last of us either!
SCENE 6 — THE BIGGEST QUESTION — WILL JADE STILL GET HER WEDDING?
The room becomes quiet for a moment.
Purnell looks down at his phone. A new message from Jade appears on the screen.
JADE (TEXT MESSAGE):Baby, have you found an apartment for us yet? I can’t wait for us to start our new life together.
Purnell stares at the message. His girlfriend notices the notification.
PURNELL’S GIRLFRIEND:WOW! She’s still texting you? So even after everything, you’re still planning to be with her?
Purnell quickly locks his phone.
PURNELL:That’s none of your business anymore!
His girlfriend shakes her head and walks away. Bethany follows her, but before leaving, she turns around one last time.
BETHANY:I hope Jade knows exactly what she’s getting herself into.
Purnell is left standing alone. He looks at Jade’s message again. For the first time, he begins to wonder whether his plans to marry Jade are worth all the drama that has just exploded in his face.
But one thing is certain: Jade still has no idea what happened.
